Bigbox very laggy on any theme

I'm running Bigbox on this; https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0BM9RWJDB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

And it's extremely laggy.  Not sure if the hardware just isn't good enough?  It's running any roms/isos pretty well up until PS2 era.

I've tinkered with lots of the video settings (ie turning off anything I think would help, putting the quality down), and it's still very laggy just to scroll through, often taking seconds before anything populates.

Anything I should check?

When you first start using Big Box it will take longer for images to pop in as we are building a cache of scaled images that make it faster in future passes. You can manually run this step via the Options > Image Cache menu. The process can take A WHILE so I'd run it overnight.
