Support for Mame 7z roms

Think that its weird that Launchbox still does not support import of mame sets in 7zip format. i accepts the import, but all rom files are with the extension of .zip. I know i can fix this with a search replace in the platform xml file. but it would be nice to have the feature that it just use the imported file name extension instead.

To clarify, your MAME ROMs are all .7z (i.e. 1942.7z).  But after importing them, they all point to .zip (i.e. 1942.zip).

Is that correct?

Now if you go to launch one of these games (i.e. 1942) from LaunchBox, does the game run?

My guess is they do.

yes this is correct. i did a Clrmamepro Mame 0.270 non-merge set rebuilding to .7z and click import as fullset using default setting and selected 0.270 everything looked fine and the list of files was also shown. all files showed up after import but nothing would run. after investigation i could see all files got .zip. so i just modified the xml file with search replace and started launchbox again and everything worked as expected

Sounds like an easy fix.  I'm curious, what was the space savings like going to 7z (compared to zip)?

I did that a couple time many years ago but forgot how much it 'saved'.  What I do remember is that it became a nuisance when updating each month and I realized the drive that I store the set on had plenty, plenty and more plenty of room. So figured why bother.

Seeing you used Clrmamepro, you probably set MAME up yourself as well (rompath in mame.ini etc.).  Which is great!

Though from a scratch build, it should have worked with the files being 7z and the paths pointing to zip because by default, LaunchBox sends just the filename (no extension) to MAME. It also adds the -rompath parameter so MAME knows where to look for the zip/7z file, based on the filename given to it.

Why i make them 7z is because i have the set on phone and tablet. But for a 80gb set you can save 20gb.  It took me some time to figure out why export to android did not work as it dont show any error if the rom is not available. It just make an empty folder
