Hi guys....I will say I'm a total noob with all this again. First time I've had to play around with Launchbox and BB.

I was wanting to instal bezels as I just had generic ones when playing my games.

However after doing this, my games now no longer play. They look to launch...then show a black screen and revert back to launch menu(?).

What am I looking for to try and get this working again.

What platform and emulator?  How were the bezels installed (what method did you use)? Can you share some screenshots of the following:

Edit the emulator (in LaunchBox) in question. Share a screenshot of

  • the main Details section
  • the Associated Platforms section

Edit a game have this issue. Share a screenshot of

  • the Launching section
  • the Emulation section

Hey Joe...thanks again for responding mate.....feel like I'm gonna be a bit of a thorn in your side for some reason....I'll answer as best as I can your questions:

MAME 0.277 with Arcade emulator (i think...lol) I installed the bezels as you posted in my other thread. Through Launchbox.

What do you mean "edit the emulator....and edit a game".....I'm not following sorry. Just want to get the right screenshots for you.

In LaunchBox, go to ToolsManageEmulators.  Click your MAME emulator and then click Edit.

In LaunchBox, select an Arcade game. (aka click on it once).  Press Ctrl+E to edit it.

Hope this is readable for you..

I asked for 4 screenshots. You provided 2. Only 1 of the 2 was 1 of the 4 I asked for.  I try not to ask for things unnecessarily in order to best help.

Hopefully, I may still be able to help. In your 1st screenshot under Default Command-line Praameters, add -rompath %romlocation% after what's there.

-keyboardprovider dinput -rompath %romlocation%

No it did not.

Just as a side note, I do seem to have two locations for what I can only presume to be the same set of roms.

One in .../downloads/mame/roms

The other in .../documents/roms

Just in case this may be an issue if it's not finding the right romset?!? Dunno. Both folders are the same size and same file count.

Can you share another screenshot of the section where you added that parameter?

Having 2 folders with the same contents won't cause any conflicts.  As long as the files you imported are still in the folder you imported them from.

And the game you're trying to launch (Asteroids for example) still doesn't launch from LaunchBox?

If so, see if this plugin can provide any insight as to what might be going wrong.  With LaunchBox closed, follow the Installing and Using instructions.

Results for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks. :D

The MAME Output says there's something messed up with the audio.  (Not a common issue.)  It could be a DirectX thing.  If you're running the latest 0.278 MAME release (not an issue in 0.277), it could be that you have the Realtek app "Nahimic" running on your system. I've even heard your speakers not being plugged in can cause this and/or plugging in headphones fixes it.  If none of that "turns on any lightbulbs" for you, we can start simple....

Have you done some customizations in MAME? Look in your MAME's root folder for "mame.ini" and [temporarily] rename it to something like "old-mame.ini".  Also look in your C:/MAME/ini/ folder and do the same thing.  (there should only be 1 mame.ini altogether and will be in one of those 2 locations).

Click Test Game and see if the output's the same.

Well...that's fixed the problem....the sound!! lol....speakers in...and launched a game. Some worked, some didn't...but that yet another topic for you I'm sure...lol

The good thing is the bezels look to have updated so that's a plus.

On to the next fix....thanks again @JoeViking245

Why would having no speakers have such a detrimental effect on the setup. Seems very unusual to me.

You and me both. lol  When I searched the error, that was one of the "possible fixes".  So simple. Yet so mind boggling.

Glad to hear [at least] that is all working now!
