On to the next, hopefully, simple fix.

My HS are not currently saving. How can I rectify this please guys.

Enable the hiscore plugin.

In your MAME root folder should be a plugin.ini file. Edit it with a text editor and set hiscore to 1.

Cheers Joe.

I had a look and my main MAME folder doesn't show this .ini file.

I installed .288 where my previous version was .277 (checked .288 and no plugin.ini)

I still have all the folders and files associated with .277 so had a look and this has the file. Can i just drag and drop it from one version of MAME to the other? I also noticed that my other MAME folder containing .277 has a few other files and folders not located in my newer version. Now maybe I've done something dumb but can i just copy and paste and transfer all folders and files across with no issues?

No. Don't copy from one to the other. It may miss some new ones or retain some obsolete ones.

Start MAME (not a game), [can right click a game in LaunchBox and select Open MAME] go into General Settings. Plugins, and set HiScore Support to On.  Press Escape once, select Save Settings.  Press Escape twice to close MAME.
