Ditto. I started with an old arcade cabinet but realized I was going to be spending more time fixing and implementing than getting up and playing.

I bought the 27” model as well but heavily modified it for my purposes: made tankstick permanent and completely accessible and add a permanent steering wheel and pedals.

I would be interested in seeing this. Sounds awesome.

yeah I would never buy a one up machine. They look like garbage to me

There was one on display at the electronics store and it was actually decent in my opinion. I didn't think the controls were that bad at all. Artwork was well done. My only issue with it was its miniature scale. Even with the riser it was short. But then again the full sized cabinets are beasts. Somewhere in the middle would be a good compromise.

I bought a kit on ebay for a good price but you do still need some tools and knowledge (thanks dad). I also did some additions to it like adding a cutout so I could have a USB and ethernet passthrough plate on the back.

I am a pretty handy person but I don't have a woodshop or a big garage to assemble a project from scratch. It has to be pre-cut. The Arcade1up is great in a lot of ways but it is too limited and too small. It is basically a tugboat cabinet ( remember tugboat arcade games folks?). And I don't see the point in modifying one. It's like taking an economy sedan and putting a turbo and nitrous to make it fast, a new transmission, wheels and suspension to handle the added speed, and racing seats and gauges because you need it to feel like a race car. When all is said and done you spent more modifying a cheap sedan to perform like a performance car, instead of just buying a performance car in the first place. Seems like a waste to buy an Arcade1up, and just throw away the parts you replace.

What is your budget? There are a few sites out there that offer pre-cut, full size cabinet w/custom art and marquees. Some are pretty reasonable, and some are quite pricey.

I don't know an exact number but I need affordable as possible. Please point me in the direction of what you know and I can make a decision off of what I see.

  5.  I have wanted to build my own cabinet but don't think I'm a skilled enough carpenter nor do I have the workshop and tools to do it. I would like something professional like a Arcade1up but they are really dinky for $350. Anyone have any ideas of the best cabinet for the money that I could drop a pc into? I would also like to know if you can buy original cabinet art and marquees. Better yet, post your cabinet images so I can tell you how awesome your setups are :)

Then why the heck am I getting a black screen on SNES, NeoGeo, and GBA when other games are working perfectly. I have the proper cores, everything exports to Android properly. SMH.

I have only been using Retroarch on Android for a couple weeks. Maybe a newer build will give you better results. Sometimes things that should work properly just don't and that's one of the joys of computing.

  7. One thing that I have observed about Jason is that he seems to be accepting of his entire community, including pyster. When forum members use the occasional curse word do they get censored? Nope. When pyster starts an entire thread about removing a Bible quote that obviously means a lot to Jason did he get deleted and banned? Nope. I think we can all return the favor by allowing him to include one quote on a page many of us will never even see.

  8. Nintendo and any other company is way too late. Decades late. Why even bother? My view on emulation is the same as it was in the 90's - we are here to preserve games. Without us they die. They can recreate games all they want, it is not the same. Long live emulation.

  9. How do these SBC's compare to an Android? I was briefly interested but found the specs to be really limited although for $35 I understand. I'm just not understanding the value in an SBC unless you have no computer at all and need something cheap that can get you by. I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of those who use and love these things.

  10. If you want something a little different studio recording documentaries are really cool. Watching a band make a record in the studio. Seeing how songs were put together, early versions, band arguments, and seeing the studio itself. It's really interesting to be able to see the instruments used and how it was all recorded.

I didn't have much luck with the DS4 in Bluetooth mode either. It was constantly unpairing and requires 3rd party software to work. I highly recommend the 8bitdo SF30 or SN30 Pro. There is a little bit of lag but it's hardly noticeable, and much better than other Bluetooth controllers I've tried

I am going to get two 8bitdo controllers, the SN30 Pro as my familiar Playstation style controller for most systems, and the M30. Not only is it a Genesis style controller perfect for my Sega systems but the A, B and C layout is perfect for 3DO, CDi, and any other system with a 3 button layout.

  12. Purchased the app. Currently have hand picked Retroarch collection. Not sure how this works yet but I don't want to mess with a second LB installation and there is no way I can export my entire collection across multiple external drives onto my smartphone. Can anyone point me to a tutorial for this app? ETA Prime is my go to for all things tutorial. Think I'll head to his channel and see what he has to say.

  13. I've been looking. Generally a manufacturer will use their own products whenever possible so I would assume it is a Casio. It also might not be to scale. Might be a small Casio portable that looks bigger in the ad than it really is. Very common to have a mini tv in the kitchen during the early 80's. This tv should be 83 or a couple years prior. Appreciate the challenge; too bad there are no high res images of this ad.

  14. I started creating a sizeable collection on Android. Allows me to play anywhere with great performance. I'm finding emu apps outside of Retroarch sometimes cost money, which of course is fair, but I need more time to see how much I'll actually play via smartphone before I commit. The Launchbox app got me real excited; too bad premium members couldn't get a copy. But it's only a few bucks.

  15. I have almost every emulator that runs on my desktop working on Android except Dolphin. I load the core, start a game and it crashes to home screen. I would like to confirm Dolphin settings like hw shared context but don't know how on mobile with an instant crash. As a last resort I can always get standalone Dolphin but would like to keep everything in Retroarch if possible.
