Our DB doesn't have sub-genre data. What you're seeing is the MAME genre data we get from MAME and the supporting INI files and NOT our database. I do have my own platform data on the site and JoeViking has a plugin around here somewhere that lets you apply that data to your collection. Between the two you could set Genre/Sub-Genre on the platforms I have done. Outside of that you'll need to manually assign them to games in your collection as our database at this time doesn't support any genre/sub-genre pairs like that.

Thanks C-Beats, that makes perfect sense! I should've picked up it was the MAME roms with the extra data.

  2. Hey All,

Not sure if I've missed something? LB has a genre "Shooter / Gun" which most of my lightgun games assign to by default, but not all games.
I've manually updated several games to "Shooter / Gun" in LaunchBox and wanted to edit this genre on GamesDB, but the website only has the overarching genre "Shooter" and none of the sub-categories available in LB.

Older games imported as "Shooter / Gun" so not sure if this is a recent-ish change? I don't feel this "Shooter" category is granular enough as if you want to make an auto-populated playlist of lightgun games, or flying games "Shooter / Flying" it is no longer possible without manually applying sub-genres manually to all of your games.

    Thanks!

  3. Hi Guys,

I'm not sure that my setup is picking up new hiscore games properly, can anyone shed some light on how this works or if there's a refresh I need to run? I have one rom as an example but now I'm worried there's more I'm missing out on.

Last year support was added for pang3 (https://github.com/GreatStoneEx/hi2txt-xml/issues/27)

In LB if I browse to the arcade platform and view this game I can see it supports hiscore and I can view leader boards etc. In BB if I browse to arcade platform then select pang3 it does not show any leader boards or score support.

I have an auto playlist "MAME High Scores Supported = True" so I can filter supported games, pang3 does not show in this playlist in BB or LB.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Why not create a system for it instead ?

This is how I was doing things, but it means separating out roms for every platform and maintaining them when MAME updates, much easier to import the lot as arcade then have auto playlists. I also found the launchbox db would contain media & info when scraped as the arcade platform but when you scrape it as neogeo, naomi, etc, etc the same info is not available under those platforms.

LB can already generate this for you. When you import Mame roms on this screen the option at the bottom will create it for you. It creates a bunch of others as well, but you can always go into the  \Data\Playlists folder and delete the xml for the ones you do not want.

Otherwise to manually create it use the exact source you mentioned as that is correct. Set "Platform" to "Arcade" and "Source" to "meogeo.cpp". All SNK Neo Geo use that source. So not sure why you see only a handful using them.

I think the missing source is my main problem, here's King of Fighters for example which should pretty much all have neogeo as a source but most show up as Imported ROM

Perhaps I'll try another arcade import rather than doing 'scan for new roms'
Edit: just remembered it's a full mame full set import which won't help me here.

  5. Hi All,

Looking for some tips and good ideas for playlist creation.

I have all arcade roms in the same directory and setup using mame and launching fine, I wanted to create a NEO-GEO MVS auto playlist but i'm having trouble finding a common field to auto-populate this playlist. Originally I was going to use the 'source' field as this contains 'neogeo.cpp' however upon further investigation only a handful of games have this field populated and the majority don't.

Any good ideas to get this working?

    Cheers!

For anyone reporting issues, please update to the latest beta. There are fixes to both the high scores in LaunchBox and an update to hi2txt, which should fix many issues. Let me know of any issues that you're still experiencing with the latest beta release (10.15-beta-6).

Also, just as a reminder, keep in mind that we won't be able to help with much of anything without a debug log attached. Please see the first post of this topic for instructions.

I must be going crazy, can see a beta-4 download but not beta-6, where are they available for download? ?

Hmm, the log files are saying that hi2txt isn't outputting anything at all, which is quite odd (first time I've seen that). I looked at the code and I'm not sure why that would be. Any ideas @GreatStone?

I was going to wait for the next build with new fixes to investigate this further but this morning it just decided to upload my scores from the last 3 days of gameplay, prior to this morning it wouldn't detect any scores as shown in my earlier logs. Hopefully stays working ?‍♂️

  8. Hi Guys,

Converted from Retroarch to MAME 220 for scores, the first 2 times I ran MAME scores uploaded fine, now reporting nothing to upload. I've been trying with tapper and in-game this remembers my scores no problem. I've deleted the hi and nvram folders from MAME for testing but it has made no difference, ideas? Thanks.

  9. Confused also ?

Couple days ago high scores feature was working fine, now it's not showing against any gamed at all? I've reconnected to cloud and unticked/re-ticked the mame upload/download scores boxes.

I'm using core 'Arcade (MAME)' in retroarch, this is the latest GIT build, currently 0.188

  10. Hi all,

When downloading video I've always selected LaunchBox DB and emumovies, I've also left all video quality tick boxes selected low/high/highest.

On my latest import it popped in to my head how LaunchBox will handle multiple qualities being available? If all 3 options are available will it only download the highest quality, or does it download all 3 because all 3 are ticked.

If I search LaunchBoxDB and emumovies, as well as all qualities, which takes preference and where can we switch these settings?

    Thanks.

  11. Hi Guys,

I really love the attract mode from ES\RPi. A full screen video of the game is displayed with the game name in the bottom corner, if you press a button the game being displayed launches. This feels like more realistic as if you were walking around an arcade the machines would be displaying full screen graphics of the game to lure you in.

I can't find any setting in BigBox to copy this style, so I'm thinking it might be part of each theme? Can anyone point me in the direction of the location I'd find the code for attract mode so I can have a crack at adding this?

    Cheers.

  12. I've been trying to find a solution to this myself lately, No ones ever going to play a full set of 200,000 games over 400 systems.

I liked the idea of maybe the top 100 games for each system I'm interested in, I started googling "top 100 arcade games", "top 100 nes games" etc and was presented with several lists. I copied these lists in to txt files which I've attached to this post.

I planned to go through and remove duplicates, any junk games, incompatible games and convert the lists over to rom name so I could use scripts to copy them to the right places, as usual time is thin and it's been put on the backburner for another day. But the raw lists are here if anyone's interested :)

  13. Hi Guys,

I've just purchased BigBox and I'm slowly getting everything setup and imported.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday going through in BigBox and marking games that don't work or that I don't want as broken. Thinking I could go to Launchbox later, show all of the broken games then I can delete them from my HDD, I can't work out how to view broken games in LB though?

    Cheers.
