So I recently copied over my Launchbox folder from an external drive to a Raid 0 Drive so it will run faster. I left the Rom files on the external drive where they were located and moved everything else. I then went into each platform and selected Edit / Folders Game and changed it to the correct location. However Launchbox is only updating the location for a portion of the games that are under each platform like maybe 30% or half of the games are being changed to show the correct location and all the others are showing as unavailable.
This is extremely annoying as it means I have to delete every game and then Add all the roms over again going through the download process for things I already have.
Is this a known problem or is there something I can do to fix it?
Thanks

This is the release for my Bigbox Stained Glass theme. It is still a work in progress with more Playlists and Platforms to be added. But as it stands now I have all consoles that I personally use in Launchbox and there is artwork for around 100 playlists at its current state. Many of the playlists are used for sorting games based on Community rating, Theme, Recently added games or games that are not installed or not rated. There are icons for Game stores as well which could show up as a playlist if you added them but they are used for showing you what store you have a game from rather than as a playlist.
One fair warning though this is a relatively power hungry theme. If you have a barebones computer I don't know how well it is going to run for you as this includes a lot of elements of the theme that change on a number of factors like the time of day, current platform etc. More so than most any other themes do.
Current playlists include
2 Star, 3 Star, 4 Star, 4X, Action, Adventure, Alien, All Games, All Windows Games, All, Amazon Games, Anime, Asian, Battle Mech, Beat Em Up, Best Of, Board Game, Business, Casino, City Builder, Colony Sim, Construction and Management Simulation, Construction and Management, Cooking, Cooperative, Crime, Cyberpunk, Deck Building, Dinosaur, Dungeon Crawl, EA Games, Education, Epic Games, Fantasy RPG, Fantasy, Favorites, Fighting, Flight Sim, Flight Simulator, Ghosts, GOG Store, Hack N Slash, Historical, Horror, Law, Life Sim, Life Simulation, Lovecraft, Magic, Mario Games, Medieval, MMO, Modern Warfare, Multiplayer, Music, Ninja, Not Installed, Not Rated, Open World, Party, Pinball, Pirate, Platform, Post-Apocalyptic, Puzzle, Quiz, Racing, Roguelike, Role-Playing, RPG, RTS, Run N Gun, Sandbox, Sci-Fi, Shooter, Single Player, Space Games, Sports, Star Wars, Stealth, Strategy, Super Hero, Survival, Tactical, Tower Defense, Ubisoft connect, Vampire, Vehicle Sim, Vehicle Simulation, Visual Novel, Warhammer 40K, Western, World War, Worst Rated, Xbox Store, Zombie
To get Playlists setup I advise you to go through your collection and Ctrl Click on all games with a specific theme for example Sci-Fi and once you have a comfortable amount selected right click and then open Bulk Edit Wizard select Genre (Even though it may be a theme) and Add Sci-Fi or whatever you are working on. Then select Windows or whatever platform you are working on Right click and select Add Playlist and name it exactly as I have the list above for your playlist you are adding. After that just add a unique Name which can be whatever you want but the Nested Name must be exactly as above. Then go to Auto-populate select your platform that you are working on and under that your Genre. If anyone needs help with this I can create a video walking through all of this process and how to do it quickly. I just went through a collection of 2000 PC games doing this so I have plenty of practice.
Some of the views will change the background depending on the Genre that you have added which is why I say to add it under Genre and not theme otherwise Bigbox would probably crash trying to check both Themes and Genres. I still have more work to do on that particular part adding more artwork for various Themes but much of the art is already created and only needs to be added.
I am pretty much done with what I set out to do with the theme. But if there is a desire for it I will create a patrion and if anyone wishes to support me to continue work on the theme I do that and add more Platforms and playlists (Such as ARPG JRPG etc.. ) to it as well as additional Views. But for most people without Huge collections this will probably be perfectly fine in its current state.

This is a good list. But I've got a lot of Playlist on my build that you are missing. It looks like you have some theme oriented playlists but you could go much deeper on that. Like some major ones you're missing.
Fantasy,Sci-Fi, Open World, Dungeon Crawl, Vampires, Battle Mechs, Western, Aliens, Pirates, Asian, Anime, 4X, Hack N Slash, Run N Gun, ARPG, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Cooking, Business, Dinosaur, Robots, Ghosts, Mythology, Not Installed, Not Rated, Historical, Worst Rated, Law, Crime, Moba, Tactical, Medieval, Deck Building, Modern Warfare, World War, Tower Defense, Jrpg, Cyberpunk, Lovecraft, Ninja, Magic, Post Apocalyptic, Battle Royale, MMO, Roguelike, Space, Zombie.
Then I've got Playlists based on Comminity ratings and how many stars.
That was all a lot of work going through and adding the themes to my lists of games which I just put in the Genre field instead of bothering with a separate Theme entry even though much of that is theme and not genre.

Ok So Upon restarting my computer, Steam and Launchbox my Windows games came back.
However this got me worried about the possibility of loosing my work in flagging everything with the Genre information. Is there a good way to backup my game collection?
I am assuming that Tools=>File Management=>Create Data Backup is exactly what I am looking for but I'm not sure. Does that save all the new Genre and MetaData information I have created myself?

Hello I just spent an entire week tagging my game collection of over 2000 windows games with new Genre and Theme info and suddenly almost my entire collection has vanished save for a small handful of about 20 games.
I just purchased 10 new games and added them to Steam but they were not showing up in Launchbox and when I tried to do import games from Steam it was telling me it couldn't connect to Steam even though it said I was logged in when I went to manage store fronts. So at that point I decided to check my api key but that didn't seem to be an option so I got a new api key and then Launchbox suddenly would allow me to import my Steam games. After that I went to update my Metadata choosing the recommended option not to replace anything and I suddenly realized that almost my entire game collection was gone from Launchbox save for about 30 games.
As I said in the beginning I spent around a week tagging my games with new genre and theme info and it is going to be a devastating loss if all that work is gone. Launchbox seems to be taking FAR LONGER than it should to download media and Metadata for my games since I already had all of it downloaded except for the 10 new games so I'm really afraid of what I'm going to find when it's done.
Assuming the worst has happend is there a way to restore what I lost or at the very least make a backup so it doesn't happen again after I put in all that work once again????

Thanks!
I'll check that.

Ok so I am trying to create playlists with games based on the community star rating. However While it seems to display some games correctly according to their rating I have noticed that a great many games are being shown as if the have a 0 Rating even when they have been rated multiple times by the community.
Is there a fix for this or any way I can get them to show correctly according to what they have been rated?

Thanks Alie Not to toot my own horn but I'm planning this to be sort of the ultimate theme in addition to looking nice. I'll have another video to post before too long but I'm approaching 100 for the number of Genres and Themes that Ive got artwork for that can come up if someone has them tagged in Launchbox. Ive also got mine setup so if you go to Fantasy for example it then gives options for many other Genre Mixes like Fantasy Tactical, Fantasy 4X, Fantasy RPG etc... It makes finding games quick and easy. I'll make a video how to set it all up too.

Hey I just wanted to post a preview video for a Stained Glass theme I am working on for Bigbox. I'm sadly out of work at the moment so sitting at home not making any money but at least I can make a Theme haha.
It is a Stained Glass theme and it has a lot of different elements to the theme that change depending on things like the time of day or the community rating of a game or the genre types of games.
I have already added basically all the default genre types that come with Launchbox and added several others that would actually be considered more as a theme like Space or Zombie. If you have any of those in your Launchbox the theme should detect them automatically if you have them added as a genre and a playlist but even if its just added as a genre but not a playlist the backgrounds will still change in the game views.
I have done a LOT of work on the platforms and genres already and I imagine most people will already have all their platforms on here but I'll create a Patreon that anyone can join and make additional requests for platforms, genre types or themes.
Anyways check out the video and let me know if you have any comments, suggestions or things you would like to see added to the theme! And btw I already know that there are multiple devices showing in the Platform categories list just haven't gotten around to taking care of that one yet.

Awesome Thanks C-Beats! That is actually faster than adding the Theme from the dropdown menu in Genre. However I sadly cannot set conditions inside the Community Theme Creator to be based on a custom field like Theme that I have added.. Or at least I don't see that as an option. But I'll keep poking around at it because I like the idea.
My goal is to Change elements of the Bigbox theme based on the theme of the game be it Space, Zombie, Fantasy, WW2 or whatever As well of course as allowing you to browse by the game Themes.
This all leads me to another question I'm afraid. If I package the theme for others to download is there anyway to include my metadata that adds the theme (Which seems it actually has to be genre) so that if anyone else has those games it would change elements of the Bigbox theme?
I have an enormous library of over 2000 games between Steam GOG Epic EA and all that so I could certainly be of help in contributing to adding improved metadata for people which I would be happy to work on.

@JoeViking245 made a plugin that allows users to apply some one else's LaunchBox data to their own. It could be used to collaboratively add a custom field for "Theme" that could be shared amongst users to do something like this. That being said SOME ONE would have to manually add it to all the games as it isn't a field we have in the database at the moment.
Ahh yes Theme would be more appropriate than genre. I'd love to see that added in the future but I guess for the time being I'll just have to settle for tagging my own collection under genre. I might dig into seeing what it would take to add Theme at some point but that's beyond me for now.

Is there any way to download more specific Metadata for games in my collection automatically? For example I'm sure someone has tagged Space Theme games with a Space genre tag somewhere or Zombie games etc.
I am working on my own Bigbox theme and created custom artwork for different themes but games by default in my launchbox don't seem to have genre tags like Space or Zombie etc.
Can anyone tell me an easy way to download updated meta data that might include that without me having to manually tag all of it?
Attaching a couple examples of some of the art I'm Talking about just for fun. Obviously there are already games tagged fighting and what not but just wanted to share that anyways.

Is there a public method of updating the genres for game metadata on Launchbox?
The default Genre information it gives when downloading data for new games especially Stream games is woefully inadequate. And I've noticed it doesn't even include tags from Steam. Thus I am having to go through and manually add genre information that is missing.
This has been brought up in previous posts I've seen but it should seriously be added. If I or other people could access a public database for all the games and add more tags or genre information to them it would be beneficial to everyone. That way when someone wants to setup genre playlists for launchbox/bigbox in the future it would not be such a gigantic headache and undertaking.
I'm assuming that this isnt currently an option since things like Call of Duty dont have FPS as genre and just get lumped in as Shooters.
But this is Definitely something that needs to be done for a quality of life improvement.

Guess I screwed it up myself then. But on the other hand I was just expecting launchbox wouldn't download duplicates. But the feature to remove duplicate files saved my bacon
-
It appears to be working fine now with the Download Metadata and Media
But I would still recommend adding an option under tools for Search New Media and Metadata that defaults to not overwriting existing files.
It might have been my fault to begin with if that option not to overwrite existing media has been there for a long time. But believe me after that happened I was afraid to touch that one again. On the other hand if that option was NOT there then I'm glad for it now.
-
On the other hand I am also VERY thankful for the feature that has been added to get rid of duplicate files.. That saved my bacon after the previous nightmare and now everything looks a lot better without double or triple screenshots of everything.
-
Ok... How? Would be really great if it was an option like. Tools> Search New Media
or something simple. But maybe I'm just blind Unless you fixed the Tools>Download Metadata and Media
Because last time I used that I ended up with an absolute CRAP TON of duplicate files. It was a nightmare
Edit: Looks like you have fixed that. Since I now have the option not to download duplicates. Thank God.

Is there a way to change the image group for a single game instead of All of them?
I have a few Steam games like Ai War 2 that only have a steam banner that displays with the box art for everything else and it looks wrong because they are different sizes but some of those games have posters that would look good with the box art of everything else. Changing to the 3D boxes which would then display the poster instead of the banner makes the problem worse with other changes.

Hi @Zaazu, indeed. Just reimport your ROM files and any existing games will be ignored and not reimported. We do have a better solution for this coming.
Yeah it would be great if you had an option to check for NEW media for games that have already been added to Launchbox and media was added later after you added the game.
I have about a gazillion Steam games that movies and such were added later after I added the game to launchbox. let me tell you it is a major pain in the butt going through well over a thousand games and having to do it all manually.

Thanks!

Just a simple question here.
Does Bigbox update automatically when you update Launchbox or do you have to update Bigbox separately from Launchbox. I updated Launchbox recently to 10.11 but not sure if I need to do something seperate for Bigbox.
And if so how do you update Bigbox?
Thanks.

Ok thanks. I already deleted everything and Imported over again. However editing the platform going to the Folder Tab and editing the folder for Game DID in fact update Some of the games where I could click play. Just not for all of them. So there seems to be some functionality there for that. It just didn't work entirely correctly.
