Can't get Launchbox to recognize CD-I .chd files
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Troubleshooting
AHHH-HAAAAA! That IS a useful command! I'll make note of that for later! Looks like I must have got a bad BIOS file from somewhere. I'll have to track down a better one. First time I've seen a site with a bad ROM dump. -
Can't get Launchbox to recognize CD-I .chd files
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Troubleshooting
I'm sorry,I meant I've got cdimono1.zip (the BIOS file) there. Since you suggested adding cdi\ to my path, I copied the BIOS in there, and just for good measure, I added it to F:\MAME\ROMS\ -
Can't get Launchbox to recognize CD-I .chd files
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Troubleshooting
Alright, so, right now I have cdimono1.ini in my F:\ROMS\Phillips CD-I\ directory, and Using Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon as an example, I've got F:\ROMS\Phillips CD-I\zeldgam\zelda - the wand of gamelon (1993)(philips)(us).chd. I've got cdimono1.ini in F:\Arcade\MAME\ini\ (F:\arcade\MAME being where MAME64 is installed). In it I've got ---------------------------------------------------- # # CORE CONFIGURATION OPTIONS # readconfig 1 writeconfig 0 # # CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS # homepath . rompath "roms;F:\ROMS\Phillips CD-I\" hashpath hash samplepath samples artpath artwork ctrlrpath ctrlr inipath .;ini;ini/presets fontpath . cheatpath cheat crosshairpath crosshair pluginspath plugins languagepath language swpath software --------------------------------------------------------- And I've got this setup on my ROMS in Launchbox One thing that may well be relevant that I noticed: when I launch MAME64 on its own, none of the CDI games show up in the games list, even when it's unfiltered, which typically typically includes unavailable games. Perhaps the answer lies there? -
Can't get Launchbox to recognize CD-I .chd files
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Troubleshooting
I don't have cdimono1.ini. That's gotta be it. I'm not even sure what that is. I'll have to do some digging. -
I've been having a devil of a time trying to get Launchbox to recognize my CD-I files. Per the advice of the YouTube tutorial, I aquired them in .chd format from the MAME software list. The only thing I've done differently from that tutorial is that I'm using MAME instead of MESS, because MESS no longer really exists, having been merged with MAME. Do I need to be doing something vastly different here?

I've seen a few game boxes with the CPS-1 & CPS-2 logos, similar to the one attached. Anyone know where I can find these sets?
-
Perfect. Just what I need. Looks like there's really just a handful of games that use it that are worth the extra space. Thank you!
-
Interesting. That does make sense. Where can I find a list of the ones that are actually necessary?
-
Can you link me to that? Because the set I found has a massive ton of them totallying have a terabyte. I don't know why anyone would put something like that together if they were gratuitous; but if that is indeed the case, it'd be pretty awesome to only have that many.

I'm looking at finally going all-in on MAME. Those .chd files take up SO much space, though. I'm thinking I'll acquire my ROMS and .chd files, and then curate through launchbox, deciding which to keep and which to discard. Can I get LB to delete both the rom AND the .chd file when I decide I don't want a game?
-
Did you ever find a solution to this?

Is there a reason the MVS category is almost empty?
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Contributions
Right, I did that. I've got the system setup perfectly. But LB includes the option to scrape as MVS, yet the database only has 2 games in that section. I was wondering if that's just because no one filled it, or if there's a specific reason. If there's not a reason, could the MVS titles be copied into the MVS section of the database? -
Due to a total lack of tone of voice, that could sound really snarky, but I'm honestly just asking. The DB has SNK Neo Geo MVS as a platform, but I was noticing that nothing I tried to scrape with it produced results; so I looked into it and found there are only two games there. The games made for it are available in the Arcade section; however. Is there an easy way to move them from Arcade to MVS? Or copy them? The latter would probably be more prudent, as I imagine a lot of people searing for MAME sets will include them as arcade games. If there's not an easy way, is there a specific reason it's like this? Because if not, I'm willing to manually copy/paste them from arcade to MVS (though If there's a way to do it automatically that'd obviously be preferable).

Under video priorities, I see: Theme video Video snap Recording Trailer Is there a definition of the differences somewhere? What's the highest quality?
-
I'm confused...if they're different styles of videos, why does the cleanup tool say they're duplicates? Same file name and everything. Or are they just the same video, but of different quality levels, so they're put in other folders? I could see that working. If that's the case, then I guess my other question would be, can I select all of the files listed? Like, if it lists two copies of the same video, is there a third, higher-quality version somewhere, or do I need to leave one copy of each piece of media listed? Sorry for so many questsions.
-
Right, I get that. These are indeed duplicate files. But like I said, they're in different places, and I would assume used for different things. Like videos saved under Theme Videos and a duplicate of it saved under Snaps. I would assume that Launch Box uses these two for different things, yea? That the videos under Theme Videos are used for things like Big Box themes, and Snaps are used for the info bar in regular Launch Box? So if I just looked at the cleanup wizard, and let's say I deleted the video under Theme Videos and kept the copy under Snaps, wouldn't that mean that next time I ran Big Box, that game wouldn't have a video, even though the same thing is there under Snaps?
-
I ran the cleanup media tool in Launchbox, and it found quite a few duplicates; but they weren't always in the same folder. Of particular note, it found the same videos as theme videos and as snaps. Is it actually safe to delete one of these? I'd assume that they're used for different things (regular LB and BB?). Another instance would be the same image under Screenshot - Gameplay and Screenshot - Game Title. Does LB treat them differently? Do I need to go over these results and carefully currate the before deleating?

Search functionality doesn't seem to work
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Website/Forum Support
FIGURED IT OUT! It's the length. The search function ignores anything under four characters. Job, bob, cat, dog, no results. So Neo, Geo, AES, MVS - all three-letter words. -

Weird. Particularly since this has the space. Also doesn't explain AES/MVS -
Search functionality doesn't seem to work
WraithTDK replied to WraithTDK's topic in Website/Forum Support
hmmm. This is really weird. You're right, I searched for "Nintendo" I get results. I search for "Play Station" I get results. But none of these words get any results, searched single or in combination: SNK Neo Geo AES MVS Seems like some weird kind of filter is in place. -
I feel like I must be missing something, but searching for things never returns results. For example, I searched for "Neo Geo Search" (as seen in the attachment), and it came back with nothing. Yet when I search through Google, I get this, which is exactly what I'm looking for. Am I missing something?

I'm grateful for your willingness to help, but I was able to get it working on my laptop (no luck on my desktop, but it was easy enough to transfer the generated DAT files to the desktop). Thanks for making a great program.

HBMAME? That sounds like a good idea. Although, won't that mean that every time I run a core update, if Mame has a new core, it will break the system until I find a new rom set for it?
-
It was my understanding that the set has to match the MAME version. The latest MAME core is 2016 (0.174)
