  1. Hey Jason. I don't know how deep you want to dig in with this. My LB/BB I use for actual gaming works just fine. The one I am having trouble with, I combine with Chromecast to use for my media server. Kodi is not exactly user friendly, and Plex goes to the other extreme with almost no customization, so I had been using BB. The ease+customization more than makes up for not being able to scrape metadata that I like to put in manually anyway. I use MPC-HC as my emulator, and the movie takes the place of the game. I have tried deleting the settings, with no luck. A fresh install however, will allow for BB to a point, then quits. I'll have more time to check it out later, hopefully I'll have some more details then.
  2. That is correct. Just in task manager, where I have to go to kill it. (It shows using disk, memory, etc.......resources in values you would expect if it was running normally. I cannot "switch to" through the task manager either.
  3. Also, I did a clean DL on it again, imported one game, and it will load, but every other time, it will lock up when I select the platform. (I dummied 3-4 in, and it's the same on Windows, PS2, and Wii as the platform I try to choose).
  4. Ok, after my CPU crapped out and I replaced the Mobo & CPU I now have a new, interesting, and frustrating problem. My LB refuses to launch Big Box. Desktop version works fine. When I go to switch (or try to launch BB direct) I get the splash logo, and hear the "initializing Big Box" and then.......nothing. It shows in my task manager as running at what looks like the right range of resources used if it was running, but that's it. I have to kill it from task manager to be able to re-launch the desktop version. I downloaded a clean install, and it worked for a couple of launches with just 1-2 platforms/games in it, so it shouldn't be a dependency issue. Now that I am back up to 4k games, it won't launch. <---is that it? I've waited as long as 20 mins with nothing, thinking maybe it was just taking forever to load that 1st timr since no cache images etc. Any ideas?
  5. DMCA is just another prime example of good intentions leading to unintended consequences and massive overreach. Yes, intellectual works, and the physical products of that should be protected by law from theft. NO, this shouldn't apply to critique, education, etc. The major problem is that the people that actually pass the laws don't have the expertise to be able to write the laws, so industry insiders write it for them, and they write it to be so all encompassing to catch every conceivable scenario until it affects teachers, reviewers, etc.... While these laws affect the larger companies dealing with the issues like YouTube (Google) they will NEVER be able to stop an individual, and in the age of the internet, an individual IS the world. Remember when they went after individuals? https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2012/sep/11/minnesota-woman-songs-illegally-downloaded 24 songs. TWENTY FOUR. That couldn't hold up because the public was outraged over being fined $10k for stealing a $1 song. They really should be focusing on better encryption methods, like Denuvo for games. I don't see how they will EVER stop movies/music from being pirated. It's like trying to swat flies with a sewing needle since they quit trying to swat them with a manhole cover.
  6. I haven't even tried it, but I have been thinking of playing some Rift/Wildstar again, and wondered, since steam games can be run through launchbox, can it be done with Blizzard, Origin, etc? I've got a few hours of downloading before I can even give it a shot and I'm hoping someone already knows the answer and will save me more hours of trying and failing.
  7. Ok, I am finally trying to import all my windows games into LB. Most of them import just fine, but I have a few that it just won't detect. I am guessing it's because I didn't create a start menu folder on them. The problem is that when you go to import a windows game as a ROM, and choose windows as your platform, it still wants an emulator. Is there something I am missing as a way around this?
  8. I started playing with MAME today (my head hurts now, but I think I finally have it figured out) and that got me thinking about pinball too. (Mostly for The Getaway: High Speed II) and I ran across this. Just thought I would share, because let's face it, it's awesome. http://hackaday.com/2015/04/11/building-a-pinball-emulator/
  9. Thanks for the reply Jason. The more I am messing with it now, the more convinced I am it's mostly an image problem. The CustomTurion is working. I guess I didn't realize that shrinking the banner was really all that did to platform view, and the big changes were after you select your system. As always, I appreciate the quick, and sincere, help I get from you guys. I can honestly say, I've never had a more consistent and pleasant customer service experience than what I get from you & Brad, and I'm sure Kirsten soon as well!
  10. Ok, I'm even more convinced it's something I'm (not?) doing now. The CustomTurion is changing the size of the banner, but that's all I can see. CleanConsole is definitely not changing the view platforms look, and the Hyperspin doesn't do anything. (I don't have the vids downloaded for it, is that the problem there?)
  11. I have tried HyperSpinVideoThemes (saw the post about them being unhappy, figured it might have something to do with that) went to CustomTurion then CleanHardware2 I'm not getting any errors or anything, there's just nothing happening. At all. I'm sure I'm missing something here, but it's a really simple process, and I just can't see what it would be. (I'm SUPER new to using BigBox too. Just started working with it in the last couple of days. I've been using the desktop version for probably a year, bought my license maybe 4mos ago)
  12. I promise, I have done exactly this. I still get NO change at all in BigBox when I select a different theme. The folders are unzipped, in the themes folder of LB, and I changed the graphics to remove the favorite and recent games as the theme creator advised. I just started trying this morning, is there something with the 6.3 release? I also updated to the beta this morning, and saw no difference with it.
  13. Nope. It was definitely a trackball game and it was a little more ummmm...kidsy? It was insane how well you could steer the ball in the air. The courses were brutal, but since you could basically drive the ball like a car in the air, a good round could end at 30-34 under. I bet I spent $200 one week trying to get to 36 under. It had a look VERY similar to the attached screenshot, but there's no Pangya arcade golf. The only places I ever saw it was my local bowling alley in backwoods small town IN, and a huge bowling alley in Cincinnati. I guess I'm just going to have to resign myself to never playing it again. Coulda been the same small amusement company providing Japanese clearance cabinets to both places.
  14. I became addicted to this arcade golf game, it was sometime in the late 90's early 00's, and NO it wasn't Golden Tee. The whole idea of this game, and what made it so much fun, was that you could spin the ball in the air and more or less steer it all over the course. You could hit it like 450yds with backspin on the way up, then forward spin on the way down. You could bend the sucker 90+ degrees around a dogleg lined with trees. It was nuts, and it was fantastic. I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me, I can't seem to find it in generic MAME searches, and it's driving me nuts to where I am about ready to start cutting my brain open like a Cylon looking for resurrection tech. I vaguely remember a distinct Japanese feel to it, like the text was literal translations that make you laugh on occasion & a "grown up Hot Shots Golf" type animation to it. I don't suppose this rings any bells for anyone out there?
  15. So my brain jumps around to a lot of different subjects and back again, today it's this idea's turn. What about with a remote app like Teamviewer? Right now I use it to control my pc from my tablet, I wonder if I could stream my tablet to the TV while using it to remote the computer and control it all with a game controller....hmmmmmm
  16. What they said. I've pestered this community with everything from "how do I use this for something you never intended it for" (videos w/no hope of scraping info) to advice on upgrading my rig, and Brad and Jason are all over it whether I post at 8AM, 3PM, or 3AM. The amazing ease of importing games, being able to add a script, the community sharing solutions, (sometimes even people other than Brad and Jason ;) and the constant updates and improvements that are so often based on what the users are asking for just make this the FE that should be either used, or envied by all.
  17. I guess I am not in bad shape at all then. I run pretty much everything on x3 resolution, the Need for Speed games slow a bit when there's heavy traffic. I can even pull off Ratchet and Clank games, ignoring the background glitches with just a slight slowdown as you enter combat. (Which becomes a feature/not a bug pretty quickly lol) I may just need to shift my thinking, my processor is only 2700Ghz stock, I can auto clock to about 3200, every manual OC I've tried to get to 3400 or above either fails BIOS or starts overheating within minutes. I've kind of been running on the assumption that I should be able to get 3x at full speed out of just about any game. Oh well. I guess I'll spend that money on another 5TB of storage \o/
  18. Ok. This comp I have was built 4 years ago, but it was built to last. I have.... AsusTek M4A89TD mother AMD 890FX chipset AMD SB850 Southbridge AMD Phenom II X6 1045T processor 500W power supply 5 fans air cooling in a huge case that I blow out at LEAST every 2 weeks(the thought of a leak and the maint of liquid cooling makes me nervous) NVIDIA 750 Ti (my NVIDIA 560 that it originally had went out back around Nov.) 16GB Ram 2 x 1TB internal 3500RPM HD The processor is the weak link, at the time, I was playing MMORPG's and had console gaming, and had no thoughts to playing graphic/processor intensive games on PC. I am wanting to upgrade my processor. I am thinking the AMD FX-4350 4.2GHz, because it's cheap, and still a huge step up. The hardest pushes that I give this thing are Need for Speed PS2 emulation, and GTA V PC version, but I do notice some lag on games that PCSX2 wiki shows as having no issues. (Yes, I've meticulously gone through every setting combo under the sun in config on PCSX2) The testing reported on the wiki seems to be mostly with intel i7 & i5 and those seem to be the popular ones for gaming, but honestly, this AMD setup has been so incredibly reliable and cool (temp wise) that I really want to stay with AMD (I dunno, could I even put an Intel into this MB with A3 sockets?) Just wondering if those of you that know more about it than I do (I know a lot of the hows, not a lot of the whys in computers) see any huge problems with me going to that FX-4350, if I should go with a newer model, more expensive AMD processor, or if there is some major reason to go with Intel instead. Also, while the data transfer between drives is slower than I'd like, everything else (HDD, chipset, RAM) still seems to be running great. Is there any need/reason to change any of it out along with the processor?
  19. Since LB will work w/Kodi, and Kodi will work w/Plex, is it possible to stream games through a combo of these to my TV in another room? Or is there an easier way to do this? Right now I am just emulating on my PC on the 32" screen, but I have a 52" that I would LOVE to play on w/o having to run ethernet or move my computer. Will adding a wireless connection like the workload of the PC pretending to be a PS2 break playability?
  20. SentaiBrad said I do wonder why LaunchBox and Kodi? Kodi very easily replaces us for TV Shows and Movies, not that I am saying you need to only use Kodi or not use Kodi, I am just curious about your choice. The videos that I have are mostly personal home videos taken by various siblings of our kids, and it all is shared with my parents. Obviously I'll never be able to scrape info for this, and it's an intuitive program that even my 70+ year old parents can use to narrow down to which family/grand kid/occasion a file is from, and have an idea of what's on it before they click. It's just a LOT easier for them to see "Spacegoathlz's family" than to dig in a windows explorer file, search for it, wait for windows to slog through 1000's of files, and then hope it's not named Sony/1.16.13 or such.
  21. Brad, just wanted to let you know that it worked perfectly. I set up a separate install of Launchbox, I'm using Kodi as my emulator, and it is working absolutely brilliantly. Thanks once again for the help that you & David and the community are always right there with. Yet another use for Launchbox. It's such an awesome tool. (TWSS)
  22. Awesome, thank you VERY much! Yeah, unfortunately iTunes was the only media player I could think of, and I soured on them within 10 mins of getting my kid his first iPod 15 years ago. I F'N LOATHE that company and their overpriced proprietary BS. I know there are ways around it now, but I learned to hate them so much when he had 1000's of songs he couldn't load that I walked away from them and never returned. If they were the only ones in the world with sexy maid robots, I'd just do without I guess lol.
  23. Thanks Brad, that gets me a few steps closer. Scraping is not what I am after. It will never happen for the data I am working with anyway. It's the easy user interface, where I can create tags, bulk edit, and organize, with LaunchBox doing the backend database for me, while NOT editing the original file that I am looking for. I have not used a ton of video players, if you know of one that does that, I would love it. I am not looking forward to importing over 1500 files one by one. Thanks for the help, love the product, and the people. This is a great thing you guys have built.
  24. Hey guys, I did a search and didn't find the answer, I know it's been talked about. Does anyone use Launchbox to organize their videos/music? How would I go about importing the files? Is this something that can be done with the freeware version, or is it limited to BigBox?
  25. There is, but you have to add the argument, start the game, cancel out of the game, copy & paste existing inis, then re-launch the game. The idea of the in between is to make it so hitting the shift button does all that for you when you launch a game. I say idea, because I've yet to get it to work properly since PCSX2 went to only letting you save in the documents folder, and changing it to 1.4.0 in the file name.
