I've got rubber trays in the pc i installed it in it. My main drive is in one and is silent. just so i know I'm not being stupid here HOW exactly do i tell windows to activate the drive ?
-
i can only see the drive if i go into bios but like i mentioned before the drives just spinning like nuts. The drive itself is meant to be new but already have been formatted. Even if it wasn't the drive still shouldn't sound like i put x6 vibrators together (its a bad example i know but that's the only way i can think of explaining it) and its the first drive I've ever had that's done this loud humming noise. the drives meant to have been formatted already but even if it wasn't the drive still shouldn't be acting this way should it?

ok guys i ran into a rather serious problem and wanted to confirm something. The 2tb wd hdd drive came. It was wrapped in bubble wrap and in an anti-static bag. I installed the hdd in my pc, switched on pc, hdd hummed and span like f-ing crazy! My pc wouldn't boot, went into bios, saw 1tb and 2tb, told windows to boot from 1tb, saved and quit. Pc restarted and wouldn't boot into windows, just hanged on the mb start up menu. The 2tb hdd was humming like mental. Turned pc off, removed drive, turned back on, everything loaded normally.....soo....i took 2tb hdd and installed it in my Qdrive (external case) connected up to my tablet, switched case on, hdd hummed like crazy again and didn't show up at all on the desktop. I google searched and it says only PINK bubble wrap is anti-static? Has the seller of the drive accidentally killed it when sending it to me? In the past i have had another 1tb hdd installed in my pc as i used acronis to clone my hdd to a new drive and i didn't have that problem before. I connected it up from the DVD cables (sata and psu) and pc booted up fine and i was able to clone in. This 2tb drive however spins like crazy and won't let my pc even boot into windows. So is the drive actually damaged considering it was covered in bubble wrap?

ah right ok, ill have a look on mon/tues when the drive arrives and I've installed it

thanks rince but i need to go through the retroarch/launchbox set up together as when i do it myself i want it to run Saturn and others via retroarch but load up in launchbox
-
because helping people is something a good and decent person is meant to do? i dunno about yourself but i was raised with the mind-set of helping others when they ask for it. i have the free version of launchbox (not paid version) so i fail to see the problem. If it wasn't for the person selling the drive i never would have even of heard of launchbox to even begin with. so someone selling that got me interested in all this and now I'm wanting to learn it all for myself. what's your problem with this exactly? I mean I'm asking adults (I'm assuming) for help and advice on what i assume is a friendly forum with people willing to help each other. I'm asking for advice on copying files from one drive to another so it might be a tad easier for myself to get to grips with everything. It's me trying to learn

its worked fine for over two years without any issues. I do have a rough idea what I'm doing as i am 35 and have messed with emulators before. It's just mame changed how it works so i wanted to know if it's roms are in it's own folder in the mame emulator folder as standard. also i tried contacting him a few weeks ago over a 4tb hdd he was selling. He was more interested in selling the last drive he had than actually helping anyone. i know if i sold a pre-made drive i would help my customers. That being said I've been a member of eBay for over 15 years and the amount of scum on that web site that gets away with not paying for items or simply lying....yeah...i don't expect a lot from other sellers these days

well as i said before, my current 2tb hdd with launchbox i got from someone else and everything was already pre-installed. I'm getting a new hdd abd am putting that on my pc upstairs. I plan to put retroarch/launchbox on that myself but this will be completely new to me. considering the different versions of mame and how they work i was thinking i could go on my current hdd and copy files over to a spare external hdd and then drag what i need onto the new hdd. however the mame roms don't appear in the roms folder with all the others like N64 ect. Hence why i asked if usually the roms for mame are in their own folder in the mame emulator folder itself.
-
ok this might sound a bit odd. On my current 2tb hdd with launchbox on it already i cant find my mame roms in the rom folder. Are the mame roms in their own folder in the mame emulator folder? I mean as a general rule for mame
-
how am i supposed to know exactly then?
-
with name is there a way to tell what types of roms require which type of emulator? i was looking at avp,darkstalkers,aliens,alien3 the gun, dungeons and dragons various ones like that.
-
err what do u mean about mame? It's usually just a zip file for the roms u download isn't it? is there a different way of setting up mame? Do i have to download something else because i heard some mame games require a type of file that their missing? Some type of image file or something? also wasn't snesx9 or whatever its called meant to have been the best emulator for snes?

i have a gtx970 and 8gb ram on the pc upstairs. I also have a good processor as well. My downstairs pc has a 970 and plays everything i have thrown at it. does retroarch have emulators for am model2 and 3 boards? Or is that another separate emulators i need to run
-
can anyone tell me what the best cores are to use in retroarch for each system then? also do i need a bios or mednafen for retroarch or will it download what it needs to work itself?
-
ok right heres where shit might get a little complicated as ive said in the past I already own a 2tb hdd drive with launchbox on it and all the emulators and everything else. Now I have x2 gaming pcs and that's on my downstairs pc. I plan to add this empty drive to the pc upstairs and install retroarch and launchbox on it and do everything myself manually. I got my last 2tb hdd drive another person and I think hes stopped doing them now. So I'm kinda stuck on my own. I'm looking at changing things on this drive myself and wont waste time adding tons of games I wont play for whatever reason but I ASSUME (here comes the tricky bit) ------I SHOULD be able to copy the emulators folder from my downstairs pc - install launchbox onto this new drive - then drag that onto the emulators folder made in launchbox and it should load up dolphin and demul all ok? I want to try and get the best performance I can as ive a good graphics card and everything else.

hi everyone. I've ordered a 2tb hdd which should arrive soon. I was wondering if anyone could give me some help on setting things up. 1) the hdd is brand new so if i connect this it should automatically be seen as D drive yes? I only have C currently and no DVD drive. 2) i already asked before about getting retroarch and launchbox to work together and was given some advice but which emulators do NOT work with retroarch? Is it just dolphin and demul or is it pssp as well? 3) retroarch has emulators (cores) u download manually via the menu correct? Can anyone give me a list of the best cores/emulators i should be downloading to run which systems. Like what should i use for mame/mega drive/ n64 etc. 4) if i install retroarch and have launchbox as the main base but retroarch opens when i play a snes game (example) then IF i update launchbox to the latest version will everything get messed up? 5) for emulators i cant use retroarch with (demul) how do i set up launchbox to open the games for it? Ie when i click on sonic adventure in launchbox how do i organise it so that demul opens up to run it. 6) i heard some emulators require a bios??? Can anyone explain this to me a little more as i heard some emulators DON'T come with them and i have to manually search for them? 7) if i had an emulator such as pcpsx2 how do i apply the settings to run on ALL the games? Ie- if i set 1 game to run on settings i choose how do i apply it so that ALL the games will run on the same settings?
-
that's basically what I'm looking at trying to do. I plan to get a 2tb hdd and install launchbox on it and have retro-arch run as many of the games as possible. But then for others like demul and dolphin i suspected i might have to run stuff manually... like i originally stated any help, advice would be good
-
right...so mednafen is there but is called beetle for some reason...and there's no dreamcast emulators in it that work? My current drive has i think demul or the other main one. is dolphin there or is that stand alone as well?
-
does the latest retro-arch have demul (dreamcast emulator) and that new Saturn one (mednefen was it?) or do i have to install these manually? sorry I'm new to actually doing all this myself
-
hi guys. I'm getting a 1TB hdd soon that should have nothing on it (its New) and i wanted to install launchbox on it and have it set up to play various consoles on it. Now i already have launchbox installed on another drive but i think that drive might be packing it in but also that uses stand alone emulators to run stuff. i heard retroarch can be run in launchbox and emulates things much better and more accurately. However i have never used this before and have no clue were to get it from or how to set things up. if i installed launchbox on the blank drive what exactly would i have to do next to get the games to run via lunchbox with retro-arch? I'm new to doing this so any help/advice would be appreciated

this might sound dumb but how would I check this?
-
well it seems to let me move it about were I want to on D drive BUT it wont let me acess it or delete it. I tried to shred the file using avg and it started but then stopped and said it couldn't do it. I could acess this folder BEFORE I did the overlay install however sincei did the overlay install to get launchbox to even open I now canot seem to do anything with this file
-
no the program was closed. I hadn't opened launchbox I just went into the folders, found the cache, tried to move it to my other hdd but it wouldn't do anything, tried to delete, did nothing, had to cut it and move it onto the main area of D drive. Opened launchbox and images ect were all back. I tried deleting the cache again later and it just won't delete. I tried going in the folder but I just get a message saying the folder is incorrect or corrupted.
-
edit - wow this actually worked.... however for some odd reason it WONT let me delete the folder or move it outside of the 2nd harddrive that launchbox is on. I had to CUT the folder and then paste it out of the launchbox folder for the images to return back. I need to actually test it first to make sure the games do indeed play again like before but this APPEARS to have fixed the issue aside from it wont let me get rid of the folder thanks for the help everyone - really thanks
-
ok I will try this later on tonight when I get onto my pc. Hopefully this should fix the issue
