  1. Has anyone noticed certain emumovies downloads hanging? I've been trying to add small amounts of games at a time, and every 20 or so games, a certain one will just hang for up to five minutes (either downloading a video or music). Eventually, it produces an error, and the rest of the content goes through, but I wish there was a way to skip these troublesome downloads slowing the whole process. Any ideas?
  2. Hey Folks, Recently made the big switch to PC for my media center. Signed up for the annual license (for now) and am loving Launchbox. After tinkering, I was able to set up Retroarch, import SNES games, and get my dualshock 4 set up, but I still have a few issues I can't seem to figure out: Once Retroarch starts a game, I can no longer use my keyboard except for alt-delete.I want to use the controller strictly for in game controls and use my keyboard for certain shortcuts. For example, I'd like to be able to use my keyboard to: A) back out of a game and go back to Launchbox B) save states and load states C) try shaders. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Hey Folks, I know there are numerous discussions on the forums regarding HDD vs. SSD, but I’m hoping my inquiry is sufficiently different to merit a brief discussion. My brand new computer (thank you DOS76, SentaiBrad, alexis524, patrel, and lordmonkus) which will only serve as a Media Center (Launchbox and Kodi) has the following specs: Intel Core i5-7500 Processor 3.40GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 8GB DDR4-2133 RAM 1TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit As you can see, the drive it came with is a 1TB HDD. I have settled on getting an SSD and installing the OS (Windows 10) on that drive. I will be keeping my ROMs on an external USB 3.0 HDD (Large library of over 100 Gigs - and I intend to play all types of games from Atari to Dreamcast). My question is this, to have the smoothest running version of Launchbox: Option1 - Should I put the Launchbox program on the same SSD drive as the OS. Or will placing both programs (Windows and LB) on the same SSD drive slow down Launchbox? Option 2 - Or - Should I put Launchbox on a separate internal SSD drive (which I will have to purchase - this is getting expensive) with other applications (Kodi, Chrome, etc.) Option 3 - Or - Should I not bother with a second SSD, and put Launchbox and other applications on the HDD that already comes with the machine? If the difference is speed would be barely noticeable, than this or option 1 would be best for my wallet. Brief follow-up question, after I settle on one of the options above - where should I put the Launchbox folder with all artwork and videos? In advance, thanks for the help.
  4. Thanks everyone for the help. I did go with Microcenter's Powerspec 151 Intel Core i5-7500 Processor 3.40GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 8GB DDR4-2133 RAM 1TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit 24x DVDRW Drive Multi-in-One Memory Card Reader 10/100/1000 Network 802.11ac Wireless Display Not Included It was $100 more than I wanted to spend, but it did seem like the best bang for the buck, and good for the foreseeable future. Now starts the work of setting it up.....
  5. Thanks again for the response, I think I'm down to these two. The one you suggested: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883101543&ignorebbr=1 and http://www.microcenter.com/product/474288/G151_Desktop_Computer# Unless someone has another option, between these two, which sounds better? Hopefully my last post - aside from letting you know which I went with and profusely thanking the community for the 10th time.
  6. The Alienware Alpha line looks good and prices are good - but can it really handle Dreamcast and PS2 games with all the bells and whistles?
  7. This sounds good, but I worry that the CPU is underpowered? I see similar prices for packages with i5 processors. Shouldn't I be looking for an I5 or I7 at a minimum to run Bigbox with videos, music, artwork, and higher-end games?
  8. Slight confusion - what's the difference between a Graphics card and a GPU? Which one is better for emulation? Are they both (Graphics cards and GPUs) upgradable? IS the HP (https://computers.woot.com/offers/hp-pavilion-560-intel-i5-rx480-1tb-desktop?ref=w_cnt_cdet_pc_dly_tl) graphic card (or is it a GPU?) Is it good enough for high end dreamcast / PS2 emulation - and Launchbox with all effects on? Is it upgradable down the line? Once again, I really want to thank you for the help. I'd love to purchase something today or tomorrow.
  9. Thanks so much for the quick feedback. Now I'm starting to understand the requirements. Getting there... What about this one - https://computers.woot.com/offers/hp-pavilion-560-intel-i5-rx480-1tb-desktop?ref=w_cnt_cdet_pc_dly_tl ? or is the original posting above from Newegg still better due to the i7? The $50 is not a big saving, but I was also considering the Windows 10 inclusion. Also, not sure about the graphics card on the HP.
  10. Humor me, please! Why would this not be good for my purposes? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883101483
  11. Thanks for the reply. Quick questions - is an I7 overkill for my needs? Should I not look for an i5 with a better GPU and more RAM? Is a Mini size out of the question for my budget?
  12. Hi Folks, I'm hoping to get some suggestions for a new PC. Links would be extra-appreciated - but I don't mind doing some digging either. Here are my criteria: To be used as a media center for primarily: LAUNCHBOX (BIG BOX) , Kodi, and some light internet browsing. It should be able to run LAUNCHBOX with all bells & whistles (plug-ins and graphical effects) with no problems. It should be able to handle Dreamcast and PS2 games up to the limitations of the the emulators - not the computer. I'd like to spend under $500 - the lower the better - but not at the expense of losing any of the prerequisites below. It will connect to a projector through HDMI I will NOT be playing any PC games - only retro-gaming. I'd prefer a mini size - but this is not an important issue. Just a preference. Hard drive size not too important as all ROMs will be kept on an external hard drive. I'd prefer something pre-built - but am totally willing to build it myself if I can save at least $100. Any help would be awesome. I can't seem to find good and recent suggestions to fit my needs. Thanks, D
