One game and can't get it to start

Total noob. Have launchbox premium. Have mame emulator 0.138b. Have a single ROM and when I click it or press play it comes up with an extract popup. I extract to a directory and then nothing happens.

Is it supposed to be extracting the ROM like that?

If so, is the an auto extract option?

Any ideas why it won't play.

I am testing with a galaga ROM.

Watched an Austin YouTube clip to learn how to install. Thought all was going to be good. Seem tbe doing something wrong. Maybe compatibility of ROM with emulator?

Havent extracted ROMs. What I did wrong was hadn't installed mame properly. The download was an .exe so I just pointed to it. However it was an exe install file. Then installed to a folder now point to the correct mame64.exe

So not extracting prompt nonsense anymore, But says opening then flashes then nothing. Assume it is a mame emulator and ROM compatibility problem. Might try the mame32 emulator but using win 10 and have 64 system.

I just want one game to work!

Thanks for the link. Yes you are correct, it was mame trying to extract.

Then once it is installed properly, LB wasn't finding the roms, even though I told it to leave the roms in the current location.

I moved them to the rom folder of the mame install and all is good. I will work out how to move the roms and link them as will probably use an external HDD.

Thanks again for the link.

First game opened, galaga. Second Pacman ... was more fun than I remembered. Pengo is on the list and then of course Street Fighter.

Then start building my cab. My neighbours donated this to the project ..... there is a cab 50% done there!

Basically you either have to put your roms in the Mame\roms folder or tell Mame where to look for your roms. Either way is perfectly fine, it's just up to you and your preference. I prefer to point my Mame to my roms because that way I can download and test a new version of Mame without doubling up my roms, I just tell each install of Mame where my roms are.
