Hi - This problem has been going on for a while and I know we've talked about it once or twice before but no solution has materialized so I'm hoping by bringing this up we can finally come up with something that will permanently fix this problem.

I'm going to use the NES as an example, but I've seen this problem appear on many other consoles like C64, Amiga, DOS, etc.

I have multiple games on one system that have the same title but they are totally different games.

Airwolf has 2 different versions, Tetris is another one - that one has 3 versions, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade has 2 versions by 2 different developers.  In the rules we can't have anything other than the title, but this is one area that I believe we are going to have to make an exception or have the fix be internal somehow.

so here is one example of Airwolf in our DB:  we have one just called 'Airwolf', and another called 'Airwolf (Japan)' which specifically breaks the rules and makes it hard to search for if it even shows up.

another example is the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, we have one with just that title and another with (UbiSoft) appended at the end.

here is Tetris, which there are three.  We have Tetris in the DB and Tetris (Bulletproof), which is the Japanese version.  The Tengen one is ok, as it seems to have a subtitle.

I'm hoping that bringing this to everyone's attention will come up with a solution that works for everyone.

Thanks for reading.  Sorry for the length - I was trying to be thorough.

Uniqueness defined by one-game+one-system is simply errant. The devs need to decide on something different, it's as simple as that IMHO.

That said, I would suggest keep title only as far as editing is concerned, but leave the backend to clarifying things. If a conflict's uniqueness can be clarified by year only, have the titles return with year in them automatically. If that results in duplicates still, include manufacturer.  Year is how it's done in say, IMDB, and I'd go as far as saying is typically the first thing a user would expect.
