somakarma Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Could someone make a recommendation for Retroarch (are there others?) shaders worth checking out for each platform? My current go-to is pixellate but wondering whether this best for the earlier platforms such as NES, wondering whether there's others better for later ones, N64 etc. Quote
Lordmonkus Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 I use a CRT shader for 2D sprite based games and systems and for 3D polygonal stuff I just up the internal resolution and use anti aliasing, no shaders. Quote
somakarma Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 interesting... can you say a little more about the 3D settings? what do you set the internal resolution to - is this on RA? i cant see AA on retroA-> Video settings. (I have a 1920x1080, 3.20GHz, i5 and gtx970 if that helps) Quote
somakarma Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 i'm trying out parallel with AngryLion atm...i can see there are quite a few AA shaders -- not sure which best, but text is unreadable so far (Mario 64) Quote
Lordmonkus Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 The internal resolution and anti aliasing settings will be in the core settings, they aren't in the video settings of RA. Of course the settings available will vary from core to core, some may or may not be available. Quote
somakarma Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 here is CRT hyllian x5 w/ AngryLion Quote
Lordmonkus Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Those scanlines look awfully spaced in your screen shot, looks like you have integer scale off which can wreak havoc on some CRT scanline shaders. Quote
somakarma Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 strangely switching it on gave me a different aspect ratio -- is this an improvement? how's yours look? Quote
Lordmonkus Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Looks like you got 16:9 aspect ratio on now. Like I said I don't use CRT shaders with 3D polygonal games and systems. Quote
somakarma Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 Ah of course, I misunderstood... I'll try without. Any problems with this ratio on n64? Doesn't appear to be stretching. Quote
Lordmonkus Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 16:9 is definitely stretching it, now it's up to you whether or not you like it or not. Quote
