8.3-beta-3 and combine ROMs

Just imported 7 games with 8.3-beta-3 for the purpose of testing the "Combine ROMs with matching titles into single game" feature introduced with version 7.7. My understanding is that imported roms sharing the same title should appear only once. In the following test, I imported 7 roms (different variants of the same game) but the import process resulted with 4 games sharing the same title.

Additionally, when I select "Edit game" to compare the game path and additional apps across these 4 game titles, some of the roms are referenced more than one. For instance, "LEGO Batman 3 - Au-dela de Gotham (France) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar" is referenced 4 times. See the spoiler below for details.

Spoiler

Default Game Path: LEGO Batman 3 - The Game - Gotham kara Uchuu e (Japan).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Au-dela de Gotham (France) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - The Game - Gotham kara Uchuu e (Japan).rar
Default Game Path: LEGO Batman 3 - Jenseits von Gotham (Germany) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Au-dela de Gotham (France) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Jenseits von Gotham (Germany) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Default Game Path: LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham (USA) (En,Fr,Es,Pt).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Au-dela de Gotham (France) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham (Spain) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham (USA) (En,Fr,Es,Pt).rar
Default Game Path: LEGO Batman 3 - Gotham e Oltre (Italy) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Au-dela de Gotham (France) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar
Additional App: LEGO Batman 3 - Gotham e Oltre (Italy) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl,Da).rar

The roms names were created using No-Intro [Nintendo - Nintendo 3DS (20180414-025333).dat] to insure a supported naming convention was utilized.

See most of those results make perfect sense except the one. I have no way to explain, but take all the facing games for example they are being split into 4 games and yes they are all Lego Batman 3 but the parts of the title that are different shouldn't get matched as they aren't the same. So when you get a facing rom for the Japanese, USA, German and Italian version that makes sense to me due to the limitations of how it works, but why the French version gets an additional app in every version and not its own facing game makes no sense. The French version also has a unique name so it is very weird. The fact that the program makes an additional app for the facing game is also something I've never really understood but always just dismissed it as something not all that worrisome, but yeah from looking at that the French version is really the only anomaly there. The rest is exactly as what I would expect the results to be.

I take some of that back the end result of them all having the same name in LB as Lego Batman 3 Beyond Gotham is also something I can't explain either. I guess since they are alt names in the DB it attaches them to that game but since the names of the roms don't match exactly it doesn't combine them all properly.

yeah I know they are the same game I'm just explaining why LB doesn't see them as the same game for combining purposes. Say I have a game with two discs and the part of the name that says Disc 1 and Disc 2 aren't in ( ) [ ] format then LB won't even combine them the combining matching is pretty precise.

I understand you point DOS76. In this case though, No-Intro flags are/were properly contained within the ()[] characters.

Let's keep in mind that the import process assigned the correct title "LOGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham" to all 7 roms which is what we want. The only set back is that there should have been only one game entry containing additional apps for all its variants or regions.

Yes, currently, I can recommend you to use Excel to combine games. Just find duplicate titles, then create additional apps schema and export it to xml. That's how I do it.

Thank you wirtual82 for your comments.

I'll probably create a script or a small app that will merge and eliminate these duplicate titles but I also wanted Jason to be aware of the problem in case he want to address it.

Thank you guys!

Yeah for the no intro tags that was just an example of how the consolidate works with multidisk games if the disc numbers are in the tags it will match if they are not in tags the difference of the disc numbers will make LB think its a separate game and not combine it. In your case the tags are irrelevant its the titles themselves that aren't matching so it doesn't consolidate. The way it is set up the consolidation tool doesn't see those 4 things as the same so it doesn't combine them but you notice that the European and Spanish version which have the same exact name as the 3rd example are all linked together how it would be expected. Now the fact that the alternative naming in the DB is good enough to rename them all Lego Batman Beyond Gotham is pretty good in itself and then there is that pesky French version and the way its linked to every game is just strange as you would think it would instead be its own version since its name doesn't match any of the games its consolidated with. If logic could be added to 1st use the matching naming and then as a 2nd pass look at titles from alternative names in the db it could probably fix this issue but that would all rely on Jason having any interest in correcting this issue. At that point you are at now manually consolidating those down to 1 game is pretty simple except then you will have 4 additonal apps for the French version.

LEGO Batman 3 - The Game - Gotham kara Uchuu e (Japan).rar
LEGO Batman 3 - Jenseits von Gotham
LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham
LEGO Batman 3 - Gotham e Oltre (Italy)
