tbergman
Hi all, I've recently decided to build a combination HTPC / Gaming emulator for my kid. I've gotten as far as putting together the hardware and installing windows 7 with media centre (fully updated) and Launchbox and am hoping someone can tell me if I'm on the right track. The hardware: Dell Optiplex PC with Core 2 Duo E4400 @2.0 Mhz with 8 GB of ram Nvidia GT 210 graphics card with HDMI Digital TV tuner In the process of obtaining an Xbox 360 wireless remote and receiver I've tried to run Launchbox but it sits at the initialisation stage and doesn't go any further. Have I missed something? Is the hardware sufficient for what I want it to do? Thanks in advance, Tony
tbergman
Quick addition: Launchbox opens after a few minutes of thinking
neil9000
Those are very low specs you have there to be honest a very old dual core at only 2.0Mhz will be slow for most things including likely actual emulators as well.
jophran
Exactly, LB would require more power to run smoothly. Changing the hardrive for an SSD one would speed up things a bit if you can't afford a better PC right now. I have a C2D E8400 (3ghz) with an SSD and it's quite slow, but usable. Of course I don't expect to emulate anything beyond PS1 with it.
tbergman
This is more experimental to get the software right. I have a quad core cpu to put in it to get it working faster. I use and old HP with a C2Q @ 3mhz as a main home HTPC and media server and it runs beautifully. My main goal is to build a core i7 to do all this.
