MAME rom importing problem

If this is documented somewhere and I missed it I apologize in advance.  I've tried multiple ways of importing MAME games and cannot get the result I want.  I have my roms as non-merged so each zip file has all the files it needs to run that particular game.  All I want is to import the games that are in my roms folder, that's it....clear cut.  I do not want to filter anything out.  I do not want to prioritize any region.  I just want exactly what's in the folder....each as a separate game whether there are clones or not.  I've tried importing games as additional apps (I don't really understand what that means) and importing all clones as separate games.  Either way I get more than what is in my roms folder.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

It sounds like you are using the full set MAME importer instead of just importing MAME like it is any other system. When you import just use the option to import rom files. you will still get the filter dialog and all but it will only use the ROMs you actually have during the import and not the full set like when you use the full set importer.
