rami shaked
hi, What is the best monitor size for an arcade cabinet ? Did the biger screen size reduces the image quality because of the streaching proccesing ? is it worth looking for a 4:3 old monitor (probably it will be 19'') or the new ones (16:9) would be fine enough ? DOS76
I have a 4:3 dell in my arcade machine and its nice but honestly you can use a wider monitor and not stretch and still get a great picture just will have black bars on the left and right. M.K.TUNING
Hello. Biggest one for cheap is NEC MultiSync or Eizo Flexscan. Both have 21" or 21,3" in 4:3 or 5:4. 1600x1200 Pixel and an IPS Panel for a wide viewing Angle. I`ve bought them for about 75,- € each. They have very good Quality because, they were made for Graphical work. Sorry, for my English.
twobucks
I would recommend Basing your monitor size on games you want to play and size of arcade cabinet. I use a 16x9 27" for a cabinet that is 30" wide. I wanted to play both modern and classic arcade games so the 16x9 aspect ratio made sense and it fit well for the size of the cabinet. For older arcade and console games i use 16x9 bezels in mame and retroarch with a non stretched game. The bezels are nice for displaying game info and artwork. If you dont want bezels or have no plans to play modern arcade or windows games then a 4x3 monitor might be better suited for you.
