vince16
Hi everyone, I've been having this problem ever since I started using Launchbox a year ago: when using the Dolphin emulator to play GameCube and Wii games, as the title suggests, a window titled "Question" pops up and it says "IOS_FS: Failed to rename temporary FST file". The game then usually starts after I press "OK" (sometimes I have to click a couple of times), albeit windowed ofc, as is inconveniently always the case with the Dolphin emulator. But I always get this annoying message starting the emulator in Launchbox, and ONLY in Launchbox. When I start Dolphin (it's the standalone version I'm talking about btw, not the RetroArch core) normally, i.e. not from within Launchbox, I never get this error message. But It's always bugging me in LB when starting Dolphin, be it for a Gamecube game or a Wii game I also never get this message with any other emulator, be it started from within Launchbox or not. The PS2 emulator for example, opens and closes fine, even in LB. I don't understand the meaning of this, what "FST" refers to, or "IOS_FS". I'm playing on a Windows 7 64-bit PC by the way, not some Apple computer running on IOS or w/e. Any help to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Edit: As I thought there was something odd when I started it again a couple minutes ago: something was missing. It only gave me the "IOS_FS: Failed to rename temporary FST file" error when it would usually give me another error after that, which I just got right now, so I'm adding the following. It then adds a window that says: "Question" (the name of the error window) "C:\Users\vincent\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Wii\title\00000001\00000002\data\play_rec.dat could not be opened! This may happen with improper permissions or use by another process" "Press Y to make another attempt" As it turns out, I have to click "ignore for this session", but I get a black screen, and Dolphin doesn't respond anymore, if I try to shut it off I get the message "Dolphin has ceased to work" or something. I absolutely NEVER get this when using Dolphin outside of Launchbox! Edited September 20, 2021 by vince16
faeran
Hi @vince16, While I've never seen this issue before when using standalone dophin with LaunchBox, some google searching seemed to bring about a lot of info of different people getting the same error message. Since you seem to only be getting it from launching a game into dolphin from within LaunchBox (definitely confirm this, just in case), most may not be relevant, but worth a look: Make sure you are not running LaunchBox (or Big Box) as admin, this can cause a lot of issues, one of which is folder/file permissions issues. Some people seemed to indicate that it was their anti-virus program blocking their version of dolphin. Some people say it was their location of the Wii nand folder causing the error. Changing its location solved their issue. Could be related to a general folder/file permissions issue to where Dolphin places your user config files (usually in Documents inside of a folder called Dolphin Emulator). You could have file corruption issues within your Dolphin Emulator folder.
vince16
Yes I confirm it. Thanks for the heads up. -I am in fact running LB/BB as Admin, I had to set it that way, otherwise Windows Firewall gave me hell and wouldn't let me use Supermodel (Sega Model 3 emulator) as it had decided it was a supposedly dangerous software. -I'll make sure Avast is not the cause of this too. -Could it be due to the fact I mistakenly installed Dolphin on C:\ while the GC/Wii ISOs are on E:\? -Don't know what to do about that -I somehow doubt it as Dolphin runs flawlessly outside of LB. Even if that's the case, I don't know what to do about that either. Thanks for your help! Edited September 20, 2021 by vince16
