WraithTDK
It seems like the days of platforms like CPS are done, and newer systems are basically just common computers in elaborate cabinets. That's essentially what Raw Thrills, Global VR and Sega are doing. I know a lot of you just lump everything arcade in one platform; and that's fine. You do you. But to those of you who are like me, and have CPSI, CPSII, CPSIII, Sega Naomi etc. as seperate platforms; I'm wondering, have you created separate platforms for these kind of modern machines? Do you have a Sega Lindbergh, Raw Thrills PC, etc. platforms setup? I keep going back and forth in my brain on if I should do this or not, so I thought maybe getting other people's perspectives might help me land on one or the other. FreaKzero
on a cabinet... well nah because searching gets more cumbersome, i only restrict by emulators (MAME Current, FBNEO, Retroarch or Teknoparrot) so i can use the per Wheel Search Feature on Bigbox More efficiently Also ... i have alot of Playlists for "Versioned Titles" Like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Metal Slug and so on which are alot of time not on a Single Platform... As also for my Favgenres (Lightgun, Beat em Up, Gallery Shooters) And sure - when you use Current Mame (without Retroarch) you also can get in Problems when Platforms finally work (like the last NAMCO 10 System Update) with the emulator approach you get not so much headaches (one of the headaches was gamsharaj since the Mame Team renamed it in gamsharao - and i needed alot of digging and time to find that out) On Systems Like Lindbergh, Triforce, Chihiro, PC based Arcade Platforms when you even put EVERY Namco System in their own PCB Category (NAMCO WARP up to System N2) you get bonkers with searching for a Game I thnk that highly dependent if you Collect or Play daily ^^ Edited June 11, 2023 by FreaKzero
Headrush69
I've been back and forth as well and finally settled on the following: Quote Arcade Cabinets (Platform category) - this includes all games >>> Arcade (Platform category) - this has all MAME supported arcade games >>> By System (Platform category) - Arcade games by some system I like. (I combine some systems like Sega RingEdge 1 & 2, or Sega Naomi 1 and 2, Namco ES all versions) >>> By Genre (Platform category) - autogenerated playlists generated by LB Thies shows all Arcade games in the top level (which most people only need, especially when browsing), but gives me the By system for easier media scanning or specialized tools I need for those platforms.
