Clutz450
I've recently imported my N64 collection of games into LaunchBox and have been going through each entry making sure that it pulled in the correct metadata and images. While doing this I came across the Japanese Pokemon Stadium games. I'm no expert in these games, but what I have found out in my searching was that the first Pokemon Stadium game was only released in Japan. The sequel in Japan (Pokemon Stadium 2) was released as just Pokemon Stadium everywhere else. And then the third game in Japan (Pokemon Stadium Kin Gin or Pokemon Stadium Gold Silver) was released as Pokemon Stadium 2 everywhere else. Now looking at these 3 Japanese games in LaunchBox after importing, I have a mismosh of media for different regions, and the Japanese version of Pokemon Stadium 2 and Pokemon Stadium Kin Gin imported the same metadata and media. Now usually when I see missing media, I'll head to the No-Intro website and see if the dumper of the games uploaded pictures of the game, and if so I will do my best to edit and upload them. As well as correct any information I find in my searches. I want to do this for these 3 games, but since I am relatively new to providing updates to the database, I was hoping that a more experienced user (or whoever is in charge of the database) could look these 3 games over and make sure that the naming and alternate naming is correct so I know I am adding/removing the correct media from the correct places. The last thing I want to do is to try and contribute images and information to the incorrect entries and waste anyone's time. Or worse yet, my incorrect entries get admitted only adding to the confusion for others. The links to the 3 entries in the database will be linked below. Please give me your thoughts on all this and how you would like me to proceed. Thank you. CriticalCid
Yeah, those games that share the same title across different games in different countries can sometimes be tricky. The Pokémon Stadium Kin Gin entry in the database should probably be deleted as it’s the same game as the western Pokemon Stadium 2. The other entries look fine to me. I don’t think that other fixes are needed besides deleting that duplicate entry. Instead you should look at the following entry for the first Japanese Stadium game: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/73937-pocket-monsters-stadium Now to your problem. Your media mismatch probably comes from LaunchBox confusing your Japanese ROMs with the western versions. Make sure that your games are linked to the correct database entries. To fix them you’ll need to rename the game title to the main title that’s listed in the database. So, for the first Japanese Pokemon Stadium you’ll need to rename your game to “Pocket Monsters' Stadium”, delete the current database ID and make LB search for a new one. The second Japanese Stadium should be renamed to just “Pokémon Stadium” and Kin Gin to “Pokémon Stadium 2”. Delete all your previously downloaded media files and let LaunchBox redownload them. You can change the game names back to the proper Japanese titles after that. If you are also using EmuMovies to download media, you should be aware that you’ll most likely get the US artwork in those edge cases. Pocket Monsters' Stadium should be fine since it was only available in Japan, the other two not so much. And to be clear before there’s any confusion. I’m talking about the game titles inside LaunchBox. The file names of your ROMs should be left untouched.
Clutz450
Thank you for your response and for your solution to attach those games to the correct database entry. I'll give that a try and then look over the media and metadata again. Are you one of the moderators who approve/disapprove or otherwise maintain the database? I agree with you that the Pokemon Stadium Kin Gin should probably be deleted. I just didn't want to put in the request if you already did or are handling it. Thank you.
