Kefka2b
Hi I just separated my light gun games within their own platforms (created as auto-populated playlists) under a "Light Gun Games" category, I would now like to hide all light gun games from regular platforms but still have them appear in the various light gun platforms I just created, is this possible? Solution AstroBob Posted November 27 Solution Share Posted November 27 Hey @Kefka2b, the only way to do this would be to create actual new Platforms for your Light Gun categories, and then change the Game’s metadata to that new platform, but this isn’t a workflow I’d recommend since you’ll lose association with the original platform. The best approach seems to be to use your current workflow (where you’ve created a new Category with some playlists for LightGun games). It’s not ideal, but you could create two auto-playlists underneath each platform: one for lightgun games from that platform (e.g., NES) and one for normal NES games. If you can let me know a bit more about your ideal end goal and how you’re looking to set things up I can try and advise further. Kefka2b
Thanks. My idea was to create a separate section in Bigbox to easily navigate between platforms containing light gun games as I usually plugin my Sinden gun then play a few games then unplug it (hence the idea of hiding light gun games from controller based games lists). I configured it to be able to navigate in Bigbox, use pause screens and use emulator hotkeys so I can leave controllers and keyboards behind while using it. I guess creating custom platforms would be the most sensible as I also put light gun roms in their own sub folders so reimporting them would be easy. However I spent 3 hours setting up the category with all the platform playlists and media yesterday I don't think I have the motivation to start from scratch again. I think what I wanted to do would be a useful feature. There's definitely more use cases. Edited November 27 by Kefka2b
AstroBob
Thanks for the update there and definately good to learn about more use cases. It sounds like what you have set up with the categories is a good stopgap, though I appreciate the effort that goes into that. Although not ideal, you could leverage the on-the-fly filters in Big Box, to filter out any games that have lightgun support. You can of course make other playlists based on this filter, but I realise that is aan dded setup. Definately a valid request, and would love to hear about other's experiences in this area. But sounds like you've got this up and running for now. What's first up up on the list for a good lightgun game? Recently got myself a Dolphin bar to put my Wii Zapper to good use (need to upgrade to Sinden at some point) 🤣
Kefka2b
Rescue Mission on the Master System, but that's just personal nostalgia😛 Haven't used wiimotes as guns but I don't think you can really play without a crosshair which ruins the fun IMO. Get a Sinden! The set up can be a major pain and just hard to grasp at the beginning, but once done it's verrrrry good.
