Hello all, I'm running the latest version of LB 13.24.

Yesterday, I was playing with the UI slider to make the images look a bit smaller. Usually they flash and then they reload. This time some didn't. O_o

I have tried refreshing the images both by selecting all of them together and individually but nothing.

I also made sure all the media (images ) are in their respective folders. Nothing is missing, They simply fail to load. Both on the front end and also when editing the game's edit media and metadata section.

It's weird because some platforms now only show banners, while others have nothing.

I have not tried to re-download or to add them manually all over again as I'm hoping maybe there is an easier and less time consuming way of fixing the issue.

My guess is that is has something to do with the refreshing of the media DB because I usually see a red progress bar at the top when switching between platforms, but this time it doesn't do that all the time.

Any help would be appreciated. 🤗

Check the Image Group menu for the selected image type to show.  Note, it can be set on a per platform basis. (e.g. platform A uses "Boxes", platform B uses Steam "Banners")

When you edit a game and look in its Images section, there are no images (showing [when there should be]?

If that is correct,

  • check the Metadata section of that game
  • verify the Platform it's assigned to
  • doublecheck that in your /Images/ folder,
    • the platform name is spelled the same
    • (In the image type subfolder below that platform) the games image filename is the exact same as the games' Title or ROM name
      • noting that -01 is appended to the filename and that invalid filename characters are replace with an _ (underscore)

If that all pans out, back in the Images section of that game, click Add Image and navigate to one of those image files for that game and select it.  Click OK to save and close, press F5 to refresh the image for that game and see if it now appears.

The progress bar you see is (pretty sure) refreshing the image cache for the selected platform. LaunchBox doesn't keep a database-of-sorts of your images (nor videos).  They are captured on-the-fly, on-the-go, as-needed... you get the idea. When selecting the platform, the cache is populated (or at least does a quick check, which if it's "good" is when you may not see the progress bar).  When switching games in that platform, it's reading from just the cache.  Thus the occasional need to refresh images.

When you resize the images with the slider, ("I think") it does a repopulate of the cache. I do know it needs to repopulate it when you change the image type to show for that platform.

Thank you for the response.

I went over every point as suggested. Nothing seems to be wrong with any of that. I am able to add a game's image manually, refresh, and not have it disappear.

I still have no idea why it happened. I am dreading having to add each image manually, once again. 😬

To clarify, when you Edit a game and look in the Images section, the images are not there?  Even though the images are in their respective folder(s) for that platform/image-type.

Also, in the left panel, are you selecting a Platform (vs. a Platform Category or Playlist)?  Is this images-not-there debacle happening in several Platforms?  Or just in one?

When I select Edit, there is no images there, even though the images are in their respective folder(s) for that platform/image-type.

In the left panel, it makes no difference what I've selected. But I've always used Platform Category.

It's happening in several platforms.

Then LaunchBox is not seeing the images [in the folder] for that game.

  • In the left panel, select a Platform (not a Platform Category).
  • Right-click the Platform and select edit.
  • In the Folders tab, are the Folder Paths pointing to the same folder your images are in for the respective image types?

Oh! Doing that made a lot of the images show up once again. 😃

I tried it with the Arcade platform first, since for that one, all I ever use is the front view of the advertising flyers.

I noticed that before changing it, LaunchBox was displaying the full path to the folder in question starting from the root C drive, like:

C:\Users\Homer64\My Documents\LaunchBox\Images\Arcade\Advertisement Flyer - Front

but once I re-selected it, it displayed it as:

Images\Arcade\Advertisement Flyer - Front

I confirmed the platforms with the missing images all display a path starting at the C drive.
