Ravenloft Posted Friday at 02:30 PM Posted Friday at 02:30 PM (edited) In order to stop crashing when I upgraded from 13.23 to 13.24 I had to do a complete reinstall of Launchbox. Now after upgrading to 14.0 from 13.27 it is consistently crashing again. Below are only a couple of instances. I have included entries from Windows Reliability reporting and event viewer. I have also attached the logs from Launchbox and Windows Error Reporting. Maddoc1007 Posted Friday at 08:47 PM Posted Friday at 08:47 PM Your second image states that the faulting module is windows codec.dll problem, Try reinstalling your codecs maybe you have a problem with them, i myself havent installed any codec packs not even the media one that come with Launchbox as i have Daum Potplayer installed and have only installed the codecs that came with that and never have any video problems Quote

It also doesn't explain the other crash noted in which fault module was coreclr.dll which is part of .NET I have since rolled back to previous 13.27 14.0 appears to be another unvetted release. Maddoc1007 Posted yesterday at 01:27 AM Posted yesterday at 01:27 AM The first replies you get when you type in those dll,s are Yes, windowscodecs.dll is primarily used for video and image processing in Windows. It serves as the Microsoft Windows Codecs Library, providing the underlying components that allow applications to encode and decode various media formats. Key functions include: Video Decoding/Encoding: It supports compression and decompression of video data, enabling playback in media players. Image Processing: It also handles image codec tasks, such as rendering thumbnails and processing image formats. System Integration: It is a core Windows system file located in C:\Windows\System32 and is required for proper media playback functionality. Errors related to this file (e.g., "not designed to run on Windows") often indicate corruption or a mismatch between the installed codec components and the operating system architecture (32-bit vs. 64-bit) coreclr.dll is a fundamental Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file developed by Microsoft Corporation that serves as the core runtime engine for .NET Core and .NET applications. It is responsible for executing .NET code by managing just-in-time (JIT) compilation, garbage collection, and memory management, and it is commonly found in paths such as C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.NETCore.App\. The file is also associated with legacy software like Microsoft Silverlight and is part of the open-source CoreCLR project hosted on GitHub. Errors related to this DLL, such as "file not found" or "access violation," typically stem from corrupted installations, version mismatches, or conflicts with third-party add-ins in applications like Autodesk Inventor or Final Fantasy XIV. To resolve common issues, users are advised to reinstall or update the .NET runtime via official Microsoft channels, update the affected application, or perform a Windows Update. While third-party sites offer standalone DLL downloads, Microsoft does not officially distribute coreclr.dll as a standalone file, and replacing it manually is generally discouraged in favor of reinstalling the associated software or runtime environment Quote
Ravenloft Posted yesterday at 01:43 AM Author Posted yesterday at 01:43 AM There is nothing legacy on this PC, it was built and windows installed specifically for this purpose, so while I can appreciate your response, it is not factual on this particular build. windowscodecs.dll and coreclr.dll are core Windows/.NET files, a codec pack isn't touching those. If it were actually a codec conflict you'd expect the crash to point at the codec's own file, not stock system DLLs. Also worth repeating - clean build, a little over a year ago, nothing legacy on here. And the fact that rolling back to 13.27 fixed it instantly kind of seals it. Same PC, same codecs, only thing that changed was the LaunchBox version. So whatever's going on, it's on the 14.0 side. Quote
