Hey @Johnny T could you take a look in your \\LaunchBox\Data\ folder and tell me if you have any sort of backup files in there? We typically get these type of reports when users have extra data files in that folder that don't really belong there. If you're not sure feel free to PM me a screenshot.

I have just found an Atari 2600 backup.xml in there and deleted it.... just trying it again now. Thanks :)

    Hi @Johnny T,

I'm assuming that you've imported the folder of your Atari 2600 ROMs.

Is this something that has happened to you consistently, or just once?

Were you able to tell whether it's finding the exact same games again that it needed to remove?

    Hi Faeran

Yes, my roms are zip files and I just imported the folder. It's happening all the time with Atari 2600 roms - I'm just working on curating that system so I've not tried it with other systems yet.

I'm busy experimenting with it at the moment to try and make a pattern out of the behaviour. I'll post back if I come up with something.

    Thanks ?

  3. Hi all,

I'm trying to curate my list of Atari 2600 ROMs. I've been through and deleted some of the ROMs. I "Scan for Removed ROMs" and it finds a list that I've deleted and I tell it to remove them.

I then scan for removed ROMs again and it doesn't find anything... so far so good....

However, if I power LB off and then go back the next day and "scan for removed roms" again, it finds a load more ( nearly 100 of them!!).

Do I need to somehow 'refresh' the cache or something after it has 'removed roms' ??

    Thanks

PS... Not sure if it's relevant but I have "Allow deleting ROMs when deleting games" ticked - although I'm not sure that's relevant if it's just removing 'removed ROMs' as, presumably, it should just be updating the xml file for that system??

Not my place to say one way or the other if this is plausible or not, but i don't understand personally why it is needed. What does it matter what the URL is? Either you are on the database website already and are searching by game name, not ID, or you are in Launchbox and the simple act of clicking the Database ID takes you directly to the correct page, im not sure why them matching matters in the slightest?

I've been making some software that checks the LB DB and checks it against all the games in your library for the chosen system. It tells you what games you're missing and what extraneous games you've got. It's just to feed my OCD to collect every game for each system (which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea but it's something I'd like to do).

In the table I display the LB database ID and I'd like to make it an URL to link to the LB DB.

The other solution would be to embed the URL into the metadata.xml and I could just read it out of there?

Quite a selfish reason - I know :) But I'm sure it would come in handy for other applications too.... :)

  5. Hi there,

Currently the URLs of the Games DB on the website end in a unique number that doesn't match the database ID of the game.

    For instance...

On the Atari 2600 - "Bionic Breakthrough" is here -> https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/83243

You would expect the game ID in the database to be 83243 but it is 133243

I wondered if it would be possible to either (a) set up the URLs so they match the games OR (b) set up some redirect pages such as -> gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/link/133243 that redirects to the correct URL ?

    Is this feasible?

    Thanks ?

LaunchBox actually stores the whole database metadata content on your PC in XML format. You’ll find it in your LaunchBox folder under “\Metadata\Metadata.xml”

I can personally verify that you can just take the file and import it into Microsoft Excel with the XML data import tool in the "Data" tab. If you’re familiar with Excel it’s really easy to filter for all the data fields like you wish. Besides Excel there are possibly a lot of other tools out there that allow you to easily access and filter XML data but i have no experience with that.

Unfortunately, I’ll also have to tell you that the LaunchBox database does not provide any kind of ROM info, so you’ll have to work with solely the game titles. There’s no way to convert the LB data into a DAT file for ROM managers as there’s no useful data for that kind of thing, like files hashes, to begin with.

Just to feedback... thanks to your brilliant advice I've now knocked together what I want - a bit of software that will let me know which games I'm missing from each system....

VERY rough and ready.... and still needs a bit more work but seems to be very useful even in it's current state.

Just wanted to thank you again for letting me know about that database.

That's great info!! Thanks for that. I'll see if I can maybe write something in PHP to do some magic on that XML and compare it against the games I have in LB.

Thanks again for your help :)

Maybe a good place to start would be the LaunchBox audit function? In LaunchBox go to your Atari 2600 platform > Tools > Audit Atari 2600. You can sort on any field you like.

Thanks (again!!) - much appreciated. I really want to be able to 'export' the list into a 'dat' file and then I could import into a rom manager and (in theory) have quick visibility of all the roms that I haven't got that have full details available for them in the database.

However, I'll have a play around with the audit tool and see what I can come up with.

    Thanks ?

in BigBox, maybe you are using a hotkey to bring up the pause menu that interferes with Mame?

Or in LaunchBox > Tools > Manage Emulators > Mame > Pause Screen tab, you could try ticking/unticking "Suspend Emulator Process While Paused" and "Forceful Pause Screen Activation". (I have them both ticked for the Pause Menu to work correctly with Mame.)

Great advice. I'll give that a go! Thank you ?

  10. I would like to put together a "definitive" list of games for the Atari 2600. I have the no-intro dat file but there's games missing from that (specifically homebrew games like Alien Greed etc).

All the games seem to be in the Launchbox Database but there doesn't seem to be a way to add them all to a 'list'.

Ideally - I would like to add all the ones with full details available to a 'list' (so ignoring the Unknown Activision #1 game etc).

Is this something that can be done? Or, if not, would be something that could go on the 'wish list' to be implemented in a future update perhaps?

Or is there another way of getting that data from the LB database - maybe some form of API or some way of using Launchbox itself to grab the data or a plugin or something along those lines etc?

    Any help much appreciated ?

  11. I've got a strange problem at the moment. When I 'pause' a MAME game in BigBox then the screen goes black and I can't unpause the game.

I've set the pause theme to 'default' in both LB and BB (previously I was using the instruction card pause theme).

I've tested launching a MAME game from LB and pausing and it works correctly - it brings up the Resume menu with a graphic.

However, in BB it just freezes and I end up having to restart BB?

Anyone got any ideas on how I can diagnose what the issue is?

    Thanks ?

Banner is for any system that can have images that shape that are not a arcade system, Steam is a good example of this as it uses steam banners, but there are banners for most systems on our database/forums created by other people.

@Mr. RetroLust should of promoted his own file, it can be used to create your own banners with the community theme creator.

Marquee Generator template for Community Theme Creator - Game Marquee Images - LaunchBox Community Forums (launchbox-app.com)

That looks REALLY good!! Thanks for the link Neil. I'm actually planning on getting my head around the Theme Creator soon so this will come in very handy. Thanks for creating this @Mr. RetroLust :)

  13. I have a separate stretched LCD screen as a 'marquee' on my cab.

I've noticed there are two image folders in each Platform called "Banner" and "Arcade - Marquee". From my testing it seems that "Arcade - Marquee" is the folder that holds images that will be put on my marquee screen.

I just wondered what the 'banner' folder was for? Is it used for marquee images for non-arcade platforms for instance? Or something else?

    Thanks :)

  14. Yep, I just run a file called American Laser Games.bat and it has the following:

    daphne.exe singe vldp -fullscreen_window -ignore_aspect_ratio -x 800 -y 600 -framefile singe/%1/%1.txt -script singe/%1/%1.singe

My launchbox set up looks like this:

    image.thumb.png.b302ee3fe2ad896f74cacf3d46e5854b.png

The inside of my crimepatrol folder (along with the path etc) looks like this:

    image.thumb.png.f851e12a4018d8961978e9cf1bb25d6f.png

    Does any of that help? I don't have a crimepatrol.bat file? I just have a crimepatrol.singe file?

i'm sorry to necro this topic, but i'm completely lost with configuring American Laser Games in launchbox.

I've got the "No Intro" package from Colpipes78 and i try to integrate it in my Launchbox configuration but nothing works. For Daphne Games like Dargon's Lair and so on i had no problem with the Launchbox integration, but for ALG, that's just a mess.

I've followed step by step any of the post above, and whatever i do, i always end up with the error message and the Log file (provided here) doesn't help me much finding the problem :( It seems to me a path problem, but don't know what's wrong.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Looking at your log you have a ".singe" at the end of your path. So it's trying to find

    Games\crimepatrol.bat".singe

    which is invalid.

    You can see it here:

    --Command line is: daphne.exe singe vldp -fullscreen_window -x 800 -y 600 -framefile singe/"R:\LAUNCHBOX\Emulators\American Laser Games\crimepatrol.bat"/"R:\LAUNCHBOX\Emulators\American Laser Games\crimepatrol.bat".txt -script singe/"R:\LAUNCHBOX\Emulators\American Laser Games\crimepatrol.bat"/cdrom-"R:\LAUNCHBOX\Emulators\American Laser Games\crimepatrol.bat".singe

Oh so you are talking videos for actual games here, you specifically said "playlist videos" in the thread name so thats what i gave you the info for in my reply. Games can never be playlists, they are just games, so the videos for them need to be in Launchbox/Videos/Name of platform folder to be seen. Playlists just list games from platforms, thats all they do, all the metadata, media and videos are attached to the game, not whether or not its a platform or a playlist, that is of no consequence,

Okay, thanks for that. Apologies for the confusion. It was just strange that I could add extra folders to my Images folder to help curate them (for instance - Fanart - Box - Front/Ace/Big Break.png or whatever) but in the videos folder they all have to just be in one folder and can't be put in sub-folders.

It makes sense though as you point out that it is just one big "pool" of games etc.

    Thanks again :)

    Launchbox/Videos/Playlists/Name Of Playlist/Name Of Playlist.MP4

    Hi Neil,

This isn't working for some reason?

I have Playlist called "Ace" (within a Platform called MFME).

I have a machine called Big Break.

Within \Videos\MFME\Recordings\ I have "Big Break-01.mkv" and this video shows fine.

However, if I move it to \Videos\Playlists\Ace\Big Break-01.mkv then it doesn't show up?

    I've tried \Videos\Playlists\MFME\Ace\Big Break-01.mkv

I've also tried a .mp4 (in case it was a problem with mkv files within the Playlist folder)

But none of them are working??

    Any ideas?

    Thanks :)
