  1. How are you guys. I had a rom collection way back in 2000, but just got into it again and am building a cabinet etc. So i might not be understanding something. Ive downloaded a 197 core split set. 60 gigs, but once downloaded, 11,000+ zip files were empty inside. why would all these zips be empty. I did select all and properties and the total space unzipped was under 4 gigs (not 60+). So I downloaded again... and the same thing happened. This time i didn't event unzip it, instead i opened it to browse around and although lots of files said they were 250kb, 1300 kbs, etc, when i opened them they were empty. So then i downloaded a different set. 193 split set. and again the same thing is occurring.. thousands of empty rom zips. Sooooo, my question is, and will likely sound stupid, but is this supposed to be like this? sounds dumb but i never know, they could be placeholders for games that are not compatable or something. figured i would ask. anyone else ever have this scenario Im going to try again to download a set but with a different computer but since it takes two days, i figured i would ask because ive been trying to get started for a week LOL I wouldn't post a link because im not sure if it's aloud, but i get them from org "archive". i assume you guys would know what im talking about
  2. It might be cool. i was laying out my setup on the control top to get a feel for it. the more buttons make it crazy and confusing for me but it could be that im in my 40s (because my son plays games with a keyboard and seems like every key is used and he understands it LOL. too much for me... "danger will Robinson." I ended up drilling holes for 3 additional button at the far back center. 1 would likely be pause, and the other could be a shift/hotkey. i don't know. but the holes are there. lol.
  3. Hey MoonKnightFTW, I appreciate that! I think im going to go your route with the joysticks too. saves some money. Thanks for the links. im checking their site out now. have a great day man!
  4. Would anyone know the major difference between these two joysticks? Ultrastik 360 ball top J-Stik Ball Top (4-8 way switchable joystick [sanwa jlw-tm-8) aside from ultrastik being usb, I was thinking it was that the ultrastik can switch between 4 and 8 directional without opening the control box? BUt then i saw they have restrictor plates for the Ultrastik also so then it makes me confused again. lol And a second question since it's the same topic. if you have an 8 way joystick, would you actually always change the restrictor plate back and forth to play a 4 way game like pac man? and then back again when playing a game that requires 8 way? just trying to make an order at ultimarc for the last 3 days and still not sure im getting this right.
  5. Nice, good idea. and yes i was actually getting together an order from ultramarc tonight (and ipac4 is on the list). just trying to figure out which joysticks to buy from him. very confusing since its my first build. well thanks for sharing you build. it has me anxious to for mine to be finished! lol. im slow... took me atleast 4 hours to determine button placement. LOLOL
  6. Thanks Dan, I appreciate the feedback. I thought i would need them but i rarely seen them on peoples builds and then i read in another forum where the person regretted putting on the extra buttons. so I was kind of stumped on what to do. I know i could use 1 button as a shift key but yeah i think i would rather have a dedicated 'exit', 'pause', 'start' etc button also. thanks again for your feedback
  7. wow, another project i need to get started on! lol Im not even finished the first 18 projects. lol this looks real good. i will be setting this up. thanks very much!
  8. Hey all. I'm building my first cabinet and have been messing around with launchbox for a few days. I don't want to regret not adding a button for something. do you guys recommend adding buttons for 'escape', volume, pause, etc? or are you able to navigate launchbox/mame using the joystick and trackball. sorry for the noob question
  9. That's pretty hot. I'm building a 4 player arcade cabinet at the moment and mostly because of TMNT and gauntlet. LOL. Are you able to browse launchbox using the buttons and joystick you have on there or do you need a keyboard & mouse? just curious because im trying to figure out if i need any extra buttons for anything. (I don't want any extra buttons, but just wondering if i need the to control launchbox. like an escape button,.right mouse click, etc the little things are stressing me . lol really nice graphics on there.
