  1. I was wondering if this will ever be implemented into Launch Box and Big Box since it would be very handy. Also do you think a transparent pause menu would be possible? As in you can see the game paused in the background? It would just make it look that much better, though I know it's not important. And the ability to map the save/load game command to emulators that don't normally support it in the pause menu (like ePSXe, mapping Save State to F1 and Load State to F3, for example).

    Thanks.

  2. I have downloaded 6,500 MAME snaps from Progetto, and while they are clear quality for the most part, there's quite a few that are laggy and are badly skewed in the launchbox video window. I'm wondering if there's a place that has clear MAME snaps that run at a high framerate. I don't even mind some being 30fps as long as they aren't jerky. Also C64 snaps would be helpful too, been looking about and can't find loads of them.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks it's a good job.

For my part, 30 35 sec videos are cool, more ... it's bad because my menu in screensaver mode show all these videos and cut at 35 sec to the next one. The Mario Maker video is so long for me.

Really wish you will share here your futur work :)

Really? Strange. I don't use screensaver mode so I don't notice that. You could download shotcut and splice them to your liking of course. The thing is when I was looking for suitable gameplay, there was always a bit more good gameplay after the 30 second mark that felt worth showing. There's a couple of ones I want to replace like Breath Of The Wild, maybe a bit more of an exciting moment in the game. But it's important not to spoil too much of the game either.

    Thanks.

  4. Hi, just wanted to share my video snaps for WiiU since it's difficult to find good ones on the internet. They are anywhere from 35 to 50 seconds long and are all 720p, and 60fps if the game itself runs at that framerate.

I used the standard Emumovies style of fading in to the gameplay then crossfading to the title screen at the end. Here are the titles included:

    Bayonetta
    Bayonetta 2
    Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
    Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
    Hyrule Warriors
    Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
    Mario Kart 8
    Mario Party 10
    New Super Mario Bros. U
    Paper Mario Color Splash
    Pikmin 3
    Pokkén Tournament
    Splatoon
    Star Fox Zero
    Super Mario 3D World
    Super Mario Maker
Super Smash Bros for Wii U
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition
The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild
    The Wonderful 101
    Xenoblade Chronicles X
    Yoshi's Woolly World

Tried to include all the main Wii U only titles in there. Also I used Nvidia Shadowplay to capture the footage then 'Shotcut' (a free video editor) to splice the gameplay into suitable video snaps. Some videos were taken from high quality youtube videos too.

    Enjoy!

  5. Hi,

I have recently being adding my own game images for certain games with missing gameplay screenshots, and I found a quick way to do it. I dragged the image straight from google images into the image browser and assigned it as 'screenshot - Gameplay". This seemed to work. Launchbox accepted them as an image and they displayed when I set image group to screenshots. However it took me a while to realise that the screenshots were't showing up in the Game Details pane. The screenshots subtitle is there but there's no image showing up. I checked to see if dragging from google images actually saved the image to my computer and it does. The images show up in the screenshots folders, and everywhere else, except in the game details bar.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or if launchbox simply doesn't have the ability to pull images directly from a google images drag. Note that it does work if I drag the image from google to my desktop, then manually browse for the image. If it is the case that launchbox can't do this yet, could you consider adding it as a feature? Because it speeds things up quite a bit.

    Thanks.

You're welcome.  Glad it worked for you.

That's probably the most common means of exiting a game and closing its emulator.  And usually the hotkeys you setup in LB/BB to exit a game are tied to it.  Look at your other emulators and how they're exiting (beyond 'Select' + 'Triangle').  Do they have a Running AutoHotkey script?  What do they look like?  Can you copy or transpose them into your MAME emulator?

Sorry for the late reply. There are other emulators that quit with escape including my MAME setup, but they work with my controller hotkey. A7800 is actually a MAME fork and uses the same interface, and quits with escape just the same, but my hotkey doesn't close it for some reason. The hotkey also closes emulators that don't exit with escape or even Alt-F4. So far only 2 of my emulators don't exit with the hotkey, A7800 and BlueMSX.

This isn't a massive issue as I could just press escape, or I could even map it on xpadder, but i'd rather avoid third party software which could clash with other emulators.

  7. No way, that was it! "a7800 -cart" did it for me and I was able to launch them in fullscreen. Yeah a lot of emulators need a command line to launch but there's a lot (like SNES9X for example) that just work. It turns out I needed that command to launch a7800 games through this mame fork. It's sorted now, thanks a lot!

One more thing tho, I have my launchbox set so that when I press 'Select' and 'Triangle' together on my DS4, it force exits the emulator/game. And this works for most emulators, but on A7800 it doesn't. You have to press 'escape' to exit the game. Which is technically fine, but for a media TV box I want to keep the use of a keyboard to a minimum. Do you have any idea of a workaround?

    Thanks again!

  8. Hiya, I'm in the middle of adding various 8-bit systems to my LaunchBox collection including the Atari 5200 and MSX1-2 (which I got working). Now I'm trying to add Atari 7800 games and have used 3 emulators and they all have their own problems. ProSystem works without a command line but will not go full screen on my Windows 10 laptop for some reason. It just glitches out and if you click the window it ceases to respond.

EMU7800 is another one, and I just can't get games to launch through LaunchBox. It works fine even in fullscreen through it's own interface, but I figured it needed a command line to work through a launcher. However, all sources say it should just boot games through any launcher without a command line, but mine doesn't. Then I used A7800, which is a fork of the MAME/MESS Atari 7800 implementation. It is said to be very accurate and compatible, and it is, but again it won't boot through launchBox without a command line.

What confuses me most is that when looking through forums on the internet, people have had success with all three of these emulators through launchers, including LaunchBox. But I can't seem to get anything working.

I'd use retroarch but it's a pig to set up for me and crashes all the time. And I have a pretty good seperate emulator set up going. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Retro808, how are you?

I agree that there should be more control over the images you upload.

I have done a huge job collecting most of the front covers in better resolution, as I always try to improve the quality.

It could veto the size of certain arts.

Covers with a resolution below 350x350 are practically unused.

I prefer to limit it to a minimum of 400x400, as I can recover them.

Same thing in size. One, the cover with a lot of information in 350x350 of 10k doesn't help.

I know that the community is contributing, but filling up with so much bad image is sad for us.

About GB / GBA / GBC I had to recover almost 900 covers. Almost 50% of the total.

Think about whether you can do something that improves the image database.

Will release tomorrow on my FB group  a full collection 1G1R for GB/GBC/GBA with full medias, all covers in 960p.

Wow that's excellent! Sorry for the late reply. Is there any way you can email them to me? It's fine if you can't, but that looks nice and comprehensive anyway. Great work!

  10. Hi, I was looking through my Launchbox collection and have noticed that the Gameboy platforms have by far the most missing images. They do all have the front box art, but even then a lot of them are small thumbnail images and are missing the back cover 95% of the time. On top of that most of them have missing screenshots too. I don't have a huge collection of gameboy games (about a couple hundred of each), but they are all showing similar trends in their images. Just so you know I scraped my images from the default Launchbox database.

I'm not complaining or anything, I just want to know if this is an ongoing thing with the Gameboy database, and if it's being worked on, or if there's already a way to scrape these missing images? Thanks.

You might want to consider updating to the last version of Vice, which was released only about a month ago https://sourceforge.net/projects/vice-emu/files/experimental binaries/

That's been able to run pretty much 100% of the games I've tried, even with trainers. Also "Hoxs64" is another great emulator for the Commodore 64 and it runs pretty much everything with a slightly easier interface http://www.hoxs64.net/

I tried that hoxs64 and it seemed ok at first until I learned it didn't boot a lot of the games I like such as Creatures 1 and 2, Mayhem In Monsterland, and lots of others. Also D64 games that do work take ages to load. I will have a try of the new Vice 64. Can you have the settings for Vice in the emulator folder instead of appdata? That's one other thing that irked me about Vice.

  12. Hi, I have been using VICE 64 to run my C64 games and while some work fine, others crash or if a game has a trainer intro (which a lot of C64 games do), it hangs after it. Not only that but the settings keep changing for some reason. Sometimes the framelimiter turns off and the game runs ultra fast, just at random. Even when you save the settings, random things will turn on and off, like sound, true drive emulation among others.

What I would like to know, is there a concrete way of running C64 games on windows that is reliable and just works? It's crazy how I have Amiga games running through launchbox perfectly and the C64 I can't for the life of me get it to be stable. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  13. I use VICE x64 for C64 emulation and for the most part it works fine. However I have a problem with some games such as Creatures 1&2 and Another World, among others. The games hang after the trainer intros. It seems to be only games with trainers that hang, and games that were made in the 90's that push the hardware more. I first thought it was a compatability problem but i've seen other people running the Creatures games on VICE, so I know it can work.

Is there a setting in VICE that I might have to turn on or off to get these games to boot properly? I know this may not be the best forum to ask this, but I figured you may have a solution? Thanks.

There is a pause screen feature that does allow you to do some stuff like exit game, save state management and view manuals if available but you cannot do any emulator setting since that is in the emulators themselves.

Right now you cannot bind this to the home / guide button but that button was highly voted for on the latest poll so it should be worked on soon.

Great! I meant more bigbox based settings anyway. I expected there not to be emulator specific settings. I'll try it out, thanks. And yeah, I hope it does use the home button because that seems like the only glaring omission at this point.

  15. Hello there. I have recently purchased the premium version of LaunchBox to gain access to BigBox and all of the customization options. And so far I love it! It pretty much covers everything I'd want in a frontend. The only thing I found that is missing (or that I haven't yet come across) is a home menu that overlays the game and gives you options to quit, or adjust some basic options on the fly. If this feature does exist, is there a way to map this function to the PS/Xbox home buttons? It's just that I want this setup completely TV friendly with minimal use of the mouse and keyboard (apart from DOS/Amiga/C64 stuff of course).

This is covered in the video.

    Creating custom configs
Creating custom configs for games that the OAGD sets to use A600

As to the Kickstarts that I used, as I said in the video I used the ones from TOSEC.

Ah yeah thank you! While im here could you tell me if there's a way to display missing metadata by bulk instead of having to edit each game and find the ID, then press ok? Because I reimported the C64 roms and found that while the images are still on my harddrive, the metadata is not displaying for them. I have to edit, then find the ID for every single one before the information will show. Also, the majority of my MAME titles don't have displayed metadata too, even if they are displaying images. Thanks.

  17.  @Zombeaver Hiya, I watched your fs-uae launchbox video tutorial and managed to get some WHDLoad folders working via your methods. Thank you! But I'm having a problem with some games not working due to them using an A600 kickstart by default instead of the A1200 (which seems to work with everything). I do have the A600 rom, but it is ghosted out in the selection menu. I even tried the amiga forever essentials roms (which I purchased) and still the A600 rom is ghosted out. This would be fine if I could simply set the affected games to A1200 and save the settings, but I don't know how to save the settings for each game. Can't see anything that lets me do that. Can you do that with the database games? Or if not then what rom sets would you suggest so that the A600 rom is usable (or what did you use?)

    Thanks again.
