  1. I'm in the same boat. I'm actually using a laptop so I'm going to pull the battery and set the bios to turn on when it receives power for the same effect. I'm not sure if I got my order placed in time for the February shipping time or the March one..We shall see!
  2. Glad you got this figured out! I'm waiting on my cabinet to arrive as well. I went with the Gameplay edition as I'm going to use a Rasperry Pi and a PC running BigBox..so I just went with Gameplay and will swap between the two...can't wait!
  3. Makes sense, thank you. I just played around and have my xbox one controller working to play games in MAME on my PC, but I don't have it working within launchbox quite yet. I am going to pay for BigBox and use that on my PC that's going into the Recroom Maters Cabinet. Once I have that cabinet, I suppose I just plug in the control panel to my PC, open BigBox and configure the controls from there? Once I have that, I still need to go into MAME to configure the game controls though, correct? Once I'm done playing, I suppose there's not really a way to shut down the PC itself with the control panel, I'd still need to exit BigBox with the mouse/keyboard and close down windows. Am I understanding this correctly?
  4. Thanks @Retro808 I didn't really want to use the keyboard when I get my cabinet built, was hoping to boot right into Launchbox and just control with the joystick, but I'll see how it goes. Is BigBox better setup to handle joystick and arcade controls better than regular Launchbox?
  5. I'm running Launchbox on two PCs at the moment, one that I'll use in my upcoming Recroom Master's Gameplay cabinet build and one that mimics it, just used for testing purposes. I want to set up an Xbox controller on the test PC just so I can get a feel for using LaunchBox and MAME in general. How do I go about mapping the controller to work within LaunchBox so i can scroll through games and select one to play? I imagine this will be similar to how I'll map the control panel joystick and buttons once I get the cabinet built, but I'm not sure how to start.
  6. Thanks again @Lordmonkus I'm importing a full romset into Launchbox right now. I see that Killer Instinct and Killer Instict 2 are included in this set. Once it's done importing (going to be a few hours probably), will the chd file be included in that romset, or will I have to find the chd file and put that into the roms folder on my own? Also, if there's a game that's not included (although I'm sure this is rare), can Ijust download it and drop it into the roms folder, import it with Launchbox and that's it?
  7. Thanks again @Lordmonkus Really appreciate this help. What you said makes complete sense!
  8. Thanks @Lordmonkus Just wanted to confirm that I need the romset version that matches the version of mame I have ,is that correct? Seems odd because if I download individual roms there's not a version listed, so why does it matter that the versions match with an entire romset?
  9. Also, just want to clarify, will the rom sets have the chd files in them or do I need another download for those?
  10. I completely understand, just thankful for your help! Looking for things now! Does it really matter if I go split or merged? If they're the same games, I just want whatever is easier
  11. Thanks..very helpful! I've seen some things on the internet archive, just don't know which one is valid and how to get it to download. It's all new to me so still working on how to figure this all out, appreciate the help!! When you say that there isn't a need to download anything separately, does that include games with chd files like Killer Instinct 1 and 2? I'm particularly interested in these games.
  12. Brand new to this! I just cleaned up a spare laptop and downloaded MAME along with LaunchBox. I downloaded a few games like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct (along with associated chd files) from the Internet Archive. The games work in MAME and show in Launchbox which is great. I'd like to download what I believe is called a "ROM set" where there are thousands of arcade games and not just download one at a time like I did. I've searched and read a lot, but I can't seem to find a place to actually download something like this. Can someoone point me in the right direction? I also hear things like merged vs. split, but again, I can't seem to find a download for one or the other. I'd like to download a large set and if I'm missing any games I want, then I can download individually and add them. HOw do I do that?
