Having issues with getting this running, the plugin does not show up in the manager at all. I put all the files in the appropriate folders I believe. I'm trying to remotely launch the same game on 2-3 different cabs at the same time.
If you mean the plugin manager, it's not going to show up there. When you right click a game in launchbox do you see the CLI launcher menu item? If not, what version of launchbox are you using?

Since I have a 1920 x 1080 screen... I tried adding 2 windows to the same screen... but it looks like it only allows 1 window per screen.
In one window I had cut off the bottom 50 percent.. and in the other... I tried to cut off the top. And split the marquee on the top half.. and the looping preview of the game on the bottom...
Cant share the window though.@boizgreg You just need to go into ThirdScreen settings, click the gear icon in the upper right, and select "Disable Display Validation". Then it should let you share the monitor with two windows like you are trying to do.

Thanks for that. I do have one question though...
I have the files on another drive... and when I link the files they actually get copied to the same drive. I macro searched all the txt and the xml files for the copied directory but nothing is coming up...
Any idea where these settings are saved so i can macro edit the file all in one shot so I dont have to do these one by one?
Thank youWhen you import a game marquee video through LaunchBox, by default it just places it at:
LaunchBox/Videos/<Platform Name>/Marquee/<Game Title>.<extension>You can place the videos there yourself if you don't want to import each one individually in LaunchBox.
Or you can change the folder where it looks for videos by editing the platform (but that would affect all of the platform's videos, not just marquee videos):
Right click the platform->Edit->Folders->Video->Browse

Just discovered this plugin...
I got my main marquees showing... I got my static image marquees showing.
Can you add individual game video marquees? And if yes.... how? Ive tried adding the folder... Say
D:\LaunchBox\Videos\Platforms\Atari 2600\Marquee\Asteroids.mp4 <--- Example
Is this possible? Perhaps the directory is wrong? In LaunchBox, Right click a game->Edit->Edit Metadata/Media->Videos->Add Video. Then set type to "Marquee".

Bummer. But you can get it to go to a certain platform or playlist? Just not an individual title.
Yes to a platform or playlist, just not to a particular game within it (unless you want it only to display that one game or go to the game's details screen).

Is it possible to have this plugin navigate to a specific game during attact mode? Can it be used to basically keep two side by side launchbox / bigbox installations in sync during attract mode? (for a twin cabinet racing setup in my case)
Good idea, but there is currently no way for a plugin to do that (telling BigBox to go to a certain game in attract mode).

Hope you have been good. Your plugin doesn't show for me anymore inside my launchbox. Have the plugins changed somehow? b safe.
It needs an update to work with the latest beta releases and the upcoming 13.19 release. I'll tag you when it's fixed.

I was using the Thirdscreen plugin on my arcade cabinet without issues until LaunchBox 13.9 beta was released when it stopped working. I just tried out your fix up above and the plugin is back working again for me but I am now having a new issue with BigBox freezing up within about 3 hours of having it in attract mode. I tried even changing BigBox to the default theme while using the plugin and had the same issue in case it was an issue with the theme. When I remove the plugin the freezing/locking up does not happen while in attract mode. I am now on 13.9 beta 3, I did not test on the earlier13.9 betas to see if it was happening there or not.
I'm also using the beta with the new plugin version. I've had my arcade on 24/7 in attract mode and I haven't seen anything like that. But I'll keep an eye out for it or anyone else reporting it.

Just now, superrob3000 said:@cannonwillow, @Retrofrogg, @gig71, and anyone else using the LaunchBox 13.9 beta releases... Please use this version of the ThirdScreen plugin for now which has been updated to .NET 9.0. I'll have to wait until LaunchBox 13.9 is officially released to post this new version to the download page so as not to br eak everyone else who is not on betas.

Thirdscreen plugin has disappeared from Launchbox with the latest LB beta. Is there an issue?
I'm looking into it.

amazing!
I was in the process of making a photoshop macro that automates the process of applying a blur to fan art, then overlaying the clear logo. I could generate the images this way, but I like your "dynamic" marquee much better. I will hold off and just use the "back background" for now. Let me know when you have something. I will drop some funds into the donation bin.
It might not be anytime soon, so don't let that stop you from making your Photoshop macro. -

I love this plugin, it make a big difference in my build.
There is only 1 thing the built-in marquee does better. It places the clear logo on top of blurred fan art (NOT stretched or fit to screen). The result looks like every game in your library has a custom marquee. It looks amazing!
The thirdscreen plugin has 2 layers (when blur option is enabled). The clear logo on top and a blurry clear-logo on bottom. The top layer dosent display as clear and the overall presentation is not as good as having fan art on the bottom layer (see above).
Is there any way to configure the thirdscreen plugin to use anything other than a clear logo as blurred background?
This is the only missing piece to my build. I will happily donate to anyone willing to help me figure this out.
You can't do it with the plugin right now but I do plan on getting it to display the same as your first picture the next time I have a chance to work on it.

Great work @superrob3000!
I for the life of me cannot get this to work properly. If I just use the Big Box marquee screen option, it works great. My main display is set to "1" and my marquee screen is set to "2"; however, when I go into ThirdScreen option (add a screen) it has them flipped. My main screen is denoted as "2" and the marquee is denoted as "1." Is there a solution to this?
Shouldn't matter that they aren't seeing the same display numbering. Just do the following:
1. In ThirdScreen settings, click "Identify Displays" and then choose the correct display as seen by ThirdScreen (don't worry about how BigBox sees the display numbering).
2. In ThirdScreen settings, click the gear icon in the upper right and choose "Disable Display Validation". That disables the check to see if BigBox is using the selected display.
3. In Bigox settings, make sure you set Marquee Screen to None.

HI, I HAVE A VPIN Im using for mame. how can i have horizontal games run on the backglass, with marque on playfield at the top, and vertical games the reverse?
Hi. For launching the games on different screens you'll need to handle that through MAME by passing in different -screen values for vertical and horizontal games.
For the marquees I'm not sure that's possible without some custom theming. If it were me I'd go the easier/better route and just add another topper screen on top of the backglass. Like this one:
Then you'd have two marquees when playing vertical games and a single marquee when playing horizontal games (the game would cover up the backglass marquee).

anyone having issues with launchbox with this pklug in after latest launchbox update? i also updated mame to latest rom set as well and now launchbox is acting uo freezing.
i tried a few things but removing this plugin is the only thing that makes launchbox work again. it was working flawlesly for a longtime till now.
Not seeing it on my end, and I'm a bit skeptical of your conclusion that this particular plugin is causing freezing as a result of a launchbox and/or mame update. Anything is possible though, so I won't rule it out. Either way, there isn't much for me to go on. If I ever do see the same issue I'll look into it.
One thing I'd recommend is try disabling the blurred background option. The only slowdowns I've seen is when playing blurred video backgrounds on low spec systems (I ran into it using integrated graphics on my ROG ALLY, but I've never had an issue with it when using a proper video card).

@madruk20 no problem, v7.0.3 adds the option to launch a game by its database id.
Just keep in mind that this will be the slowest of all the game launching options because the database lookup can take a few seconds.@madruk20 never mind about the delay. That should be fixed if you grab v7.0.4. Launching by database id should be just as fast now as the other options.

Hello! Awesome plugin, I've been using it alot this past week to create a favorites list of common games I play using stream deck buttons. Is it all possible to use the database game ID's (for instance for Street Fighter 2 Alpha its 2532) to launch games by ID's instead? I ask since the local ones are all randomly generated so you can't export stream deck profiles with already created buttons if I wanted to share them with someone else.

This plug in is very cool! However, I'm finding a few limitations that are currently keeping me from using it... unless I'm missing something. I have an LG Ultrawide as my marquee and have created a custom marquee xml theme that I'm very happy with, but it has its own limitations as the default BigBox method (I would possibly like to add 1 more display in the future, and I really want to see what's going on with my marquee in LaunchBox). I see how you can create multiple screens on the same display, but they don't seem to be displaying simultaneously. My current xml theme shows the game marquee in the top 2/3 of the screen, and controller information on the bottom 1/3. Also in the bottom 1/3, I have it showing the original controller (arcade cpo or console controller) overlayed on top of my arcade control panel info. So I have 3 different dynamic medias on the same display. Is this currently possible with this plugin?
One thing I'm seeing is that I can assign my control panel info on the bottom 1/3, but there's no option for the top 2/3 for the marquee. I would also need a transparency option added to the 'black background' and 'blurred background' options for the original controller graphic overlay.
If this is not currently possible to match my xml theme, would these be possible in a future update?
Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep them in mind for future updates. For now you'd be better off continuing to use theming to get things exactly how you want them.

@shadowblind Version 5.0.8 is now available. I added a setting to control the volume for each screen. To get to it, open ThirdScreen settings, select a screen, and click "Additional Screen Settings".

Thank you for the prompt response. The issue is my marquees are not actual images. The background I use for them is a saved PNG. but the marquees are dynamically created using a combination of clear logo art, box art and cartridge art. Its so I can have marquees for all games and they all match my category marquees. I attached a video showing this. Currently my marquee display is on the right in display properties, thats the only place it works and I still get the shifting marquees when resolution changes. Its the weirdest thing, when I have my display set to 1080p, I can have the marquee display on the left and it doesn't shift when the resolution changes. But when I change it to 4k, it no longer works when its in any position but the right side of the main monitor. I could keep the monitor in 1080p, but some modern Steam games, like Mortal Kombat 11 and cuphead (to name a couple) use your desktop resolution and cannot change it to 4K unless your desktop resolution is set to 4K. I have a nice gaming machine and a 48in 4K 120hz OLED in my cabinet, so I'd like to take advantage of it if I can, but if I'm stuck at 1080p, then thats the way it has to be so my nice marquees stay visible.
Nice job on the marquee view! Sorry I don't know of any other way to fix the shifting issue if not using the plugin.
-
@flanx also if all you are looking for is a fix for the shifting issue, you could try putting your marquee to the right of your main monitor in display settings.

I didn't see it listed anywhere, maybe someone knows. Can this be modified to use the "gamemarqueeview.xaml" file for the marquee. I made custom dynamic marquees with the theme creator and I'd like to continue using those if I can. Really, all I'm looking to do is keep my marquees from shifting any time I launch a game that changes my resolution thats lower than my desktop resolution. I heard this program can do that, but it looks like it just pulls in images from a directory.
You can't use the xaml file but the plugin shouldn't have any issues displaying your custom marquee files as long as you have added them as marquees in LaunchBox.

No worries! I'm wondering - I noticed a strange behavior shortly after installing the plug-in and I want to test uninstalling it to see if the behavior reverts back to original as well. I renamed the Plugins folder to Plugins (old), but the Thirdparty folder appears to overwrote some files, and of course, I didn't attempt to back up the originals beforehand. Do you have an easy way to uninstall so I can test, or can you tell me which files specifically I need to recover? And do you know an easier way of getting the originals rather than re-installing LB?
The plugin doesn't overwrite any Launchbox files. All of the files in the release are unique to thirdscreen. So to uninstall just download and unzip the latest release to get the file list and then delete all of those files from your Launchbox folder.

I apologize if I missed this, but is there any way to add a transition effect in between marquees? For example, I think the native marquee support fades out the old while fading in the new. Not a deal breaker, but figured I'd ask!
No, not currently.
