  1. Thanks Brad, I know that it was talked about awhile ago, I just wasn't sure if it was still on the radar or not. In any case, keep up the good work!
  2. Just wondering if this was planned or not. I love LaunchBox and I would really enjoy being able to use it with the Steam Link.
  3. I made a batch file that you can place in your startup folder. Upon starting Windows/Logging in it will stop explorer.exe and run BigBox instead. Upon exiting BigBox (if you need to do so) it will start explorer.exe. taskkill /f /im explorer.exe cd C:\<Path to BigBox Directory>\ BigBox.exe start explorer.exe
  4. Interesting. You've obviously had a lot of experiences with the Link and many different configurations. It's a bit mind boggling why some work and others don't, isn't it? When I get home I'll attempt to use Steam Link with VH and my DS4 via Xpadder and see if I have the same audio issues. It seems like the desired functionality is just barely out of reach.
  5. Sorry I wasn't clear in my last post. I know that LB supports controller usage I just meant that I've never tried to use it alongside Steam Link. Something I was wondering about. If the issue is something to do with focus, then shouldn't alt-tabbing out and back in solve that issue by giving it back to BB? Another thing, when I first launch BB from my Steam Link, I am able to control BB, but only for a split second. AHK could probably be used to create a temporary solution though. Something utilizing this. Say "if BigBox is focus, then when dpad down is detected send keyboard down" I might look at tinkering with that idea when I get home, although my experience with AHK is pretty limited. One last thing, @Zombeaver if you're using Xpadder and have your game pad buttons mapped to keyboard controls such as up, down, left, right, etc. Then I don't understand why it wouldn't control BigBox ESPECIALLY when you're using VH. Perhaps there is an issue with controller detection within BigBox when VH is used, or when used with the Steam Link in general.
  6. Interesting. I haven't actually tried using LB with a controller. Have you experimented with Joy2Key or anything similar to get it working?
  7. @Zombeaver, I did some of those things, but not all. Was a bit limited on time so there wasn't a lot of opportunity to mess around, unfortunately. I've never had an issue getting the wired 360 controller to work with VH either, but was never able to get it working without VH. (In BigBox) I did everything you listed except for the disable/enable of the overlay, and I am on the latest Beta. I don't mean the picture of a Steam Controller. What I mean is that when I connect my DS4 to the Steam Link via BT, and then load up VH on my PC, it views the DS4 as a Steam Link controller. It has certain Steam Link attributes as well. For instance, when I use a DS4 via big picture, I can access specific settings like what controller setup I want to launch certain games/programs with. When using a wireless controller, the only issue I have is navigating BigBox, everything else works as desired for me. Edit: The steam link specific configurations that I mentioned I can access via a DS4 are not available with a wired 360 controller.
  8. Zombeaver said @Jason Thank you thank you thank you! I will report back as soon as I get home to test this tonight! I just hope my hunch was correct and that this actually solves the issue... Fingers crossed! So I was hoping that disabling the splash screen would fix the input issue with Steam Link. I woke up earlier than normal this morning, so I thought I would mess around within LaunchBox and how nice of a surprise it was to see a new official release was available, and then a beta! So of course I downloaded both, and was excited to see we could now disable the splash screen! I fired up my Steam Link and connected my wired Xbox 360 controller and.. no luck. It still doesn't work. I use a DS4 with VH and even that (which is for whatever reason recognized as a Steam Controller) isn't able to control BigBox. I've been using a Remote Input app on my phone to 'solve' this issue, but now I'm not really sure where to go from here. I hope you have some more ideas, @Zombeaver.
  9. Just wondering where these are? I'm assuming they are integrated somehow because I cannot find them. Either that or I am blind, this is a likely possibility as well. Thanks
  10. Hah. I actually moved all the different ROMs into Capcom/Atari/Namco/etc folders and didn't update the directories in MAME. Thanks for your help!
  11. Hey, not sure what I'm doing wrong here, but I can't seem to get MAME to run correctly inside of LaunchBox. Also, if I try to do it through RocketLauncher, I get a "platform not supported by this OS error message." in LaunchBox. Anyway, here's a link to the vid: https://youtu.be/eSqymlNlk0o
  12. I've been messing around with the Beta, so far I'm a fan of the emumovies integration. A couple questions, though: Jason Carr said - New Feature: EmuMovies images, manuals, and video downloads are now integrated into LaunchBox imports and metadata/images/media downloading So say I wanted to update an already added system with snaps from emumovies, or I wanted to scrape new box art/etc. What would be the easiest way to do this? I tried highlighting all the games and doing a mass edit, but that didn't seem like way to go. I ended up just deleting the system and re-adding it to get the movies. Also, if emumovies is prioritized does it delete any existing files we have have downloaded from GameDB/etc when re-importing a system? Jason Carr said - Fixed: Big Box now shows up properly in the task bar And lastly I was just curious what purpose this served? Is this just to confirm that it is running given that you run into issues or does it have something to do with Steam integration? Seems like I may have read that somewhere but I can't really remember. Anyways, keep up the great work! This is by far the best front-end I've ever used; and while I'll admit it isn't the prettiest out there, it is easily the most powerful, intuitive and info rich. Besides, form follows function and all that.
  13. What folder are you placing the video in? I haven't setup any videos myself just yet, but my understanding is that the video file needs to be the same file name of the game you're playing or the same name that is displayed in Launch Box. I'm not at home, but I think there's supposed to be a video directory inside of each platform. You might also try a different format, I know emumovies has some .mp4s, but I would look into that if everything is named appropriately and already in the right spot.
  14. Huh, strange. I did all of that stuff last night and was able to connect them to my PC but I still wasn't able to control Big Box. I can however confirm that there was some crackling audio when playing with VH enabled.
  15. Pardon the ignorance, but I was messing around with VH last night with a wired 360 controller and a wireless PS4 controller. My experience with both of them didn't change my experience in any way at all; maybe I was using it wrong? I plugged my device into the Steam Link, and in VH 'used' that device. I guess the only difference now that I think of it is I was able to control my mouse with the PS4 controller. Other than that though, there were no differences. Am I supposed to have the device I want to use plugged into the computer and not the Link?
  16. Weird, I have no idea why it worked for me at all, I guess I can't really complain though. I tried setting up the controller setting with Captain Keebe's bindings and it doesn't work.. Is this page supposed to update? That's what it looks like after I select Keebe's bindings. Edit: When using the desktop encoder, does it use that until the end of the session or until Big Box fully launches? If so then I guess I'm not doing myself any favors by doing it with a batch file. Edit #2: I figured it out. Since I'm using a batch file it's using desktop controls. So that means even though Big Box works with the batch file emulators can't be controlled properly. So.. I guess I'll go to navigating Big Box menus on my PC, shame :/
  17. Well, to be quite honest I don't really know. The only reason I tried all of that in the first place is because while streaming my desktop to the Steam Link, I had Launch Box open and accidentally clicked on the "Launch Big Box" option within Launch Box, and it launched perfectly. As to getting a batch file to launch within Steam. I just add Big Box as a non-steam app, then if you right-click on it after you've added it and select "Properties" you can just change the target to C:\dir\BigBox.exe to C:\dir\BigBoxLauncher.bat and it will launch the .bat instead. Maybe you can assist me though.. getting a controller to work with any emulators is proving to be a huge pain. It looks like any controller I use only uses the desktop profile for the controller, which is not ideal at all.. I want it to emulate an Xbox360 controller instead. I'm banging my head trying to figure out why I can't change it..
  18. @Zombeaver: I picked up a Steam Link after work, been messing with it a bit and having lots of fun so far. I've been looking for some solutions to get Big Box to work correctly and I don't have a spare keyboard/mouse. I came up with a solution that works for the time being, and I'm able to retain control of Big Box through Steam Link. I added Big Box as a non-Steam game then changed the path to instead execute a batch file. Inside the batch file I have the following: taskkill /f /im launchbox.exe start LaunchBox.exe timeout 5 CTRLB.ahk pause Pretty self-explanatory, it will first close launchbox if it's open, because we want it to be in focus for when we use the AutoHotKey script. Then wait 5 seconds for Launch Box to open (I had it at 3 but it was hit and miss on if it captured it or not). All the AutoHotKeyScript has in it is the following: Send {Ctrl Down}b{Ctrl Up} Since Steam is technically 'playing' the command prompt I placed the batch file and the ahk script in the Launch Box installation folder. It's not a permanent solution, but it works for now. P.S. So as I was typing all of this up, I decided to test what would happen if I launched a batch file from Steam that contained only the following: BigBox.exe It works perfectly. Sigh.. All the work and then it just works with a single argument. Oh well can't complain, I can use it with my controller without issue!
  19. Zombeaver said cejpe said ...and force 16:9. You lost me here. Force to 16:9 in what, and for what reason? In the link you provided, someone said that forcing 16:9 aspect ratio & --fullscreen and --nogui solved the issue of the 'B' button exiting out of PCSX2 while streaming it. Zombeaver said I'm wired from host to router and wireless from router to Link. I haven't tried 100% wireless, myself, but I've heard some pretty mixed things about it. There are a lot of factors though, so your mileage may vary. Wired from host to router and wireless from router to Link work great for me, and I'm just using a cheapo wireless N router. Good to hear, my desktop PC is hardwired into the router as well, so it won't be wireless to wireless. Thanks again for all of your assistance!
  20. Thanks, I'll check out those links you mentioned. Looks like I'll have to change the input settings on my controller and force 16:9. Two questions regarding Steam Link: Is your connection wireless? I think my setup will have to be wireless for the time being and it's my biggest concern. It seemed to work quite well when streaming to my laptop, but I thought I would ask anyway. Have you setup the Steam Link to run anything other than emulators? I'm interested in streaming newer PC games, and I would like to keep using Big Box for this since I really like the interface, although it's sort of redundant.
  21. Thank you for the suggestions, having a lot of fun with this project so far. Do you have any suggestions for other resources/forums I could check out that deal with emulating on RA/Launch Box? I'm interested in some of the CRT overlays, they added a nostalgia factor I didn't even realize I was missing.
  22. @Zombeaver: I was messing around with in-home streaming before I had to head to work this morning. It worked flawlessly streaming to an 8 year old laptop. I was running a couple different PS2 games at 6x the native resolution without any hangups. Outside of the really good performance, however, there were a couple of problems. The first being that I can't control Big Box mode with my controller for some reason, have you experienced this issue? I have to physically walk over to my host computer to navigate the menus. Once Retro Arch launches then the issue is gone. A second issue is with playing PS2 games, it will launch PCSX2 and load the game, and I'm able to control it, but my controller will also move the mouse around. I can see the cursor move across the screen depending on my input. There was another time where I loaded it and just hitting 'B' on my controller cause it to exit the game. I think this is an issue with the emulator losing focus and causing the controller input to make it exit. @DOS76 I'm jealous of the multiple HTPCs, hope to be there someday. The steam link seems like a good alternative though, hopefully it works out ok. If you're emulating on all of your HTPCs, it would be really cool to sync your save games across the house, so you're able to pick up where you left on any PC in the house. Do you keep the ROMs seperate or are the accessible via NAS or something similar?
