    New Fields

GJason Carr said I'll be adding new fields soon to the database. I want to add all new fields in one fell swoop so I figured we should discuss it first. Open to ideas and suggestions about new fields to add. First off, one field I want to add is Series, to match the Series field that we have in LaunchBox. Beyond that, I want to better handle the description for multiplayer games. Right now we have "Max Players" and "Cooperative" but that doesn't quite cover all the details. At first I thought about replacing Max Players and adding a new "Play Mode" field to match the one in LaunchBox with options like "2-Player Alternating" and "2-Player Simultaneous", but with online games these days I'm thinking that would get unruly fast. So my current plan is to keep "Max Players" and add a new field called "Multiplayer Modes" with these options: Alternating Simultaneous Cooperative Online Split-Screen This would eliminate the Cooperative check box (we can move the data over to the new field easily). Also, of course you would be able to select several of these options at once. Looking for feedback on the above and also any new fields you think are important to add. Thanks guys! I'd like to nail these down before I implement the last major piece, which is adding new games. Great ideas! Some fields I'd love to see: - Theme - Alternate Titles - Won Awards - Press Critics Score - Fansites - Link to buy on gog / ebay etc. - Keywords - DLCs - also on xxx System - Part of xxx game series
  2. DOS76 said We need both. I'm pretty sure we are trying to gather regional images. Sorry that I haven't been doing much moderating lately as I've been dealing with family issues and my math class is keeping my busy also. I agree. Though what is an european release? Any game from the europa? Uk Relase? German Release? Or whatever comes first.
  3. Izzy said Is there a way to add games to the database and not just change the existing ones? It'll be implemented soon! Be patient!
  4. Welp after 537 Moderations: Yay! The moderation queue is empty! Good jorb!
  5. Yes they are. We want to be a complete and genuine database with original content no mobygames site ripoff.
  6. Dear Moderators, don't forget to submit your issues to the GamesDB Bitbucket Page to track Problems, Enhancements etc. https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/gamesdb.launchbox-app.com
  7. While doing some edits I missed a comments box for submittings to state a reason why I want that change. For example there was a box cover online but with mobygames branding so I changed it with one without one. If the change only contain minor changes it would be nice to have some insights.
  8. Jason I have the Moderation submenu left of changes status. Once I click it it throws me back to DB Start Page.
  9. Works now! Thanks for the fast reply.
  10. I tried to upload a back cover of a game and got the following error:
  11. SentaiBrad said I created a basic Moderation Guideline for the moderators. Look it over, see if there is anything else we need to add, something we need to change. I went over this post and what I was thinking of and created it. Jason's already taken a look at it and likes it. You can comment on the Doc but feel free to comment directly here. When we are ready to create a Database Subforum for the forums, this will go in a stickied thread there. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wB80CH3zecXccfQ4Et8NxYa-G1bQuo7eo1YHvkYQ728/edit?usp=sharing Looks very good. Don't forget the German USK. About the nudity part. I agree with you about Screenshots. We can always take those wihtout Nudity in it. But with the covers I disagree with you. If we manipulate the covers they're not original anymore and we destroy our whole policy of good quality submissions.
  12. DOS76 said One thing I'm confused with this discussion is if the MS-DOS version came out in 1990 why would the Atari ST version even be mentioned in the DOS section wouldn't the game have its own entry under the Atari ST platform and then the 1991 would be used as the release date for that version. I could see for using the earliest date though for games that are re-released on the platform Thats correct. If you select your Platform and then do a search you won't have a problem. But if you search from the mainpage you'll get sometimes over 15 hits with the same titles and different platforms. Just some ideas since we're at the early stage =)
  13. Hey folks. late to the party but nevertheless. I contributed to some gamedatabases with lots of PC-Games. Especially the dos era. I really like this project and I hope this Database will be the best one yet. I've read all the posts before me and I think we have to consider to make this database good. I'll list some things which I think are important and should be discussed: - Game Titles: Since the main language of the launchbox database is English we should always make the displayed title the English one. But the game should also be searchable by the aka names. These aka names should also be displayed on the game page. Also important for Japanese Titles etc. ie. The Secret of Monkey Island aka: Monkey Island 1 Monkey Island Yurei: Kaizoku Oosoudou (Japanese) Classification of the genre: The biggest mistakes made by a lot of databases are the wrong categorization of the genres. An action adventure is no adventure and only because some games have adventure elements this doesn't make them adventures either. So I think we should add sub-genres. For example Beyond good and evil. It is an action game with adventure elements. So we could make a maingenre with sub genres. ie. Maingenre: Action, Adventure, Education,Platformer, Racing, RPG, Simulation, Sport, Strategy Subgenre: Above but as sub-genre title: So if I pick Adventure as main and action as a sub I'd expect that it is an adventure with some action elements and vice versa. This can then be extended by description genres: ie.: first person, 2d, 3d, 3rd Person, On top Sight, horizontal scrolling, isometric, coop, multiplayer, online, only text, point and click, vertical scrolling So my Monkey Island would be: Adventure [Point and click] To enhance this even further for a powerful search and classification we could work with themes Some of the themes I could imagine: American History, Anime, Arabian History, Asian History, Cars, Battlemech, Book, Comic, Cyberpunk, Dating, Detective / Mystery, Politics, Realtime, Trains, Erotic, Fantasy, Movie/TV, Planes, Pinball, Mafia, Greek History, Horror, Chopper, Interactive Movie, Wargame, Labyrinth, Love / Romance, Lightgun Shooter, Logic, Minigames, Medieval, Nordic History, Pirates, Post-Apocalyptic, Quiz, Rhytm, Round-Based, Roman History, Sci-Fi, Shooter, Espionage, Tactics, Submarine, Western, Economy. Besides covers it would be nice to have images of the media. (Floppys, CD's) and of course of the goodies (Manuals, Codewheels, etc. etc.) Some random thoughts: Then if a game is part of a compilation should the game be linked to it? If the game has an addon should it be linked? Releases of the game: Again with Monkey Island 1 for example: Game was originally released in 1990 with 3,5 and 5,25 inch floppy's for dos. In 1991 it has been ported to atari st In 1992 it has been rereleased with cd. And that's only a part and only for the us. For Europe etc. it has different dates. Should we include European dates as well? And what about the different publishers? German version for example has a different publisher then in the US. Contents of the game: ie: 2 part box, manual, codewheel, 2 3,5 floppys, Some things that would be cool: Trivia? Country of origin Operating System Is the game voiced? Language in game? Forbidden Game? Germany has an index for games for example. Regionfree? Demo / Shareware? Related Websites Some features I'd love to see: Ability to add games to add to my backlog. (Not played yet) Recommendation of games based on the ratings of other users. Levels of Contributions (Awards etc.) I really like sites like icheckmovies where you get trophies when you watched movies from a list. That could be implemented for games as well. Also I think mobygames has a good approach of submission goals. I'd love to contribute and help make this database the best one out there! If you're looking for moderators I'm also here to help.
  14. As far as I know there is no such Version as 0.76 only 0.74 besides SVN Versions
  15. My controller also doesnt show up. BUT it does work with both boxes ticked.
  16. mevlooo said can anybody send me the link please? The link for what?
  17. SentaiBrad said thunderchild said When you try to launch a game using Applewin, only the program pops up and then you have to manually select the game you want to load. Does anyone know how to fix this, or know of a better Apple II emulator for windows? As for emulators we know work with LaunchBox and can emulate AppleII? http://www.mess.org/ As for trying to get this emulator to run: I did a bit of research and it seems this emulator has a few issues with getting to autorun from outside of the emulator. I did find a webpage that showed how to get it to run from a .bat file, which doesn't really help here unless you point LaunchBox to the .bat file, but you might be able to adapt the method to here and find proper command like arguments if the program accepts them. http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Comp/comp.emulators.apple2/2005-12/msg00057.html They fixed the command line Issues in 1.25.04 https://github.com/AppleWin/AppleWin/releases/download/v1.25.0.4/AppleWin1.25.0.4.zip Add command lines -f -d1 in Launchbox --- For Sharp X68000 using MESS the command line option is x68000 -flop1 Works good =)
  18. I second this. I often have a huge list of games I'm playing but only want to keep some of them. A way to mark games for delete or delete them directly from there would be super awesome!
