Resolved - Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle Errors Out When Editing - Issue #???

Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL. -
Resolved - Deletions and Name Changes Not Taking Effect - Issue #140
hubz replied to hubz's topic in Troubleshooting
It's been over 24 hours so maybe something is wrong? -
I've been working on the Game Boy section and have had some name changes and image deletions go through and be accepted but they don't seem to be taking effect. The big one is Arcade Classics No. 1's name not matching the rest. Also if anyone wants to help with the Game Boy let me know, I'll tell you me method and would love the help. - Hubz

Thanks for your hard work Fisty! I appreciate it. I am working on Gameboy now but this will take MUCH longer... there's not much good source art out there for it. A lot of Cover Project's stuff is completely wrong and I'm having to try to catch it as I go. There are scans of sealed games elsewhere which I'll probably just have to use which is good because they're not marked on but bad because the plastic shows up along the edges of the boxes. Better than nothing I guess. Yeah I'm not doing banners on Gameboy, with NES it was easy.- 59 replies

Sorry this is taking so long, unfortunately at the moment my internet connection is not great. So it will be slow until somebody completes the whole torrent unfortunately. EDIT Whoops nevermind... looks like it finally woke up and is uploading to a couple people rapidly.- 59 replies

I think we just need to be patient, Launchbox is already leaps and bounds better than any other frontend and is constantly updated. I don't know how Jason does it to be honest but am glad he can. Moderating with these current limitations can be tough but it's still doable and I'm sure if it were easy to do what we're requesting it would have been done by now. I do wonder if we shouldn't do Evil Orko's suggestion though of locking down stuff we are 100% confident is correct at some point. I think that could help immensely to avoid silly changes we have to moderate.

I'm sure Jason already knows about this but if not, heads up! http://www.mobygames.com/forums/dga,2/dgb,4/dgm,231400/

Okay here's what I've gotten done with NES. I'll leave it up as long as bandwidth doesn't become an issue, if Jason or someone wants to mass grab and upload these to the DB feel free! - http://www.gamingalexandria.com/NESBoxes/ Shout out for this goes out to Brolly and others for fine tuning the NES library to include just about everything imaginable outside of translations and rom hacks. And The Cover Project and NintenBox for their scans I was able to resize and use. There are still some missing and quite a few that aren't great quality. (Mainly Euro only released and unlicensed) From me glaning through these are - Lower Quality - Action 52 Adan y Eva Aladdin Assimilate Banana Prince Beauty and the Beast Booky Man Bubble Bath Babes Caltron 6 in 1 Captain Planet & The Planeteers Castle of Deceit Championship Rally Cheetahmen II Chuck Yeagar's Fighter Combat Clu Clu Land Corre Benny Cosmos Cop Creatom Donkey Kong Jr Duck Maze El Bloque Mgaico El Destructor Formula 1 Sensation Fun Blaster Park Galactic Crusader Gluk the Thunder Warrior Hot Slots International Cricket Jackpot Kick Off La Alfombra Magica La Gran Aventura Submarina La Guerra del Golfo Mind Blower Pak Mission Cobra Noah's Ark Operation Secret Storm Othello (HES) Over Horizon Policeman Quattro Arcade Racket's & Rivals Rad Racket - Deluxe Tennis II Raid 2020 Rainbow Islands - Bubble Bobble 2 (Euro Version) Road Fighter Rodland Secret Scout in the Temple of Demise Silent Assault Sudoku Tanque Tecmo Cup - Soccer Game Tecmo World Cup Soccer The Smurfs Tiles of Fate Total Funpak Trolls in Crazyland Ultimate Stuntman Venice Beach Volleyball Videomation Wally Bear and the No! Gang Missing Dropzone Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade (Ubisoft) Joshua & The Battle of Jericho King Neptune's Adventure Klash Ball Menace Beach Michael Andretti's World GP Peek a Boo Poker Robodemons Spirtual Warfare Ultimate League Soccer If anyboody has these and can get them scanned in at 600dpi I'm sure they could be cleaned up and used by someone. I hope all this will be useful for everyone!- 59 replies

Funny you mention that, after posting I decided to go through and find the best quality artwork for each NES rom I have and make the front and back box dimensions identical as well as banners where I could make them. I'm just about done and will upload it for everyone later that wants to use it. I won't have time to upload it to the DB though so if someone else wants to do that they are more than welcome. I'd rather spend my time working on other systems in the same capacity instead of uploading. I'd like to eventually put game box descriptions on everything too and could share my XML once that is done. Anyway I am hoping to have the NES images done this week.- 59 replies

A lot of work has been already done by the Hyperspin community regarding nice quality box art etc. Would be nice if we could do a mass submission/replacement of that somehow to the database but I realize that is likely easier said than done.- 59 replies

Honestly at times I wonder if it was a good thing to pull in what they could from GamesDB as there's so much bad info, images etc. and replacing them one at a time slows it down. When it's a brand new game that's not existing in the database it's much easier though as it can be submitted all at once and approve all at once. I was able to get Famicom Disk System done much more quickly due to adding brand new game process. Been slowly going through NES and Famicom but it's a real slog unfortunately.- 59 replies

Also noticed someone changed the front box art to advertisement flyers on some of the Disk Writer only games like Akuu Senki Raijin. I think we should leave these as Box Front if possible because the games never had normal disk covers like the other games since they were disk writer only. These are also instructions for the game not advertisement flyers but they are the closest thing we'll get for box art.

Those may be already pretty well optimized. That's good!

That being said at least Thordelan may have a point. With Photoshop I can't tell a difference between saying JPEG's at quality level 10 vs 12. And the file size savings is significant. I submitted a few NES boxes to show what I mean. If we want to stick with the highest quality by all means, but I can't tell a difference at anything 10 or above. Below that however I can, can anybody else see a quality difference?
-
I think compressing a PNG is fine as it's loseless. I have noticed resaving existing PNG's in Photoshop tends to shrink them down. However JPEGs I would leave alone if at all possible. While it might be difficult to see lowering the quality of a JPEG, it can and usually does if you have a picky eye.

Hey guys any idea why Kieta Princess and Exciting Billiards front box art doesn't show up when you browse the DB?
-
Submitted the final official Famicom Disk Games to the database! Phew! Been a lot of work and I need to go through and double check for errors but I think this is about finished. I left out most of the unlicensed adult games for now as I haven't acquired good enough scans for them yet or even much information. Left out Shanghai prototypes too as all three versions are incomplete. I noticed that Kieta Princess and Exciting Billiards for some reason aren't showing the front box artwork even though it is set in the images. And that the flyers seem to scrape (at least on mine) as the box art for the games that have them instead of the front box art. Might be something set wrong on my configuration though. Anyhow if you notice any issues let me know! Thanks, - Hubz

Just finished going through NES/Famicom games.
hubz replied to FistyDollars's topic in Contributions
Ah good point, I can resubmit the change with the space added. I think Earthbound Beginnings would be what it should be called under the Wii and Wii U, but not the NES as it was never called it for that. But if we can do alternate names it makes all this a moot point like CriticalCid said I love that we're all so passionate about getting this info right on the database, good discussion! -

I understand, but the actual prototype rom that was dumped has "Earth Bound" in the title screen though. See here - https://tcrf.net/images/3/34/Earth_Bound-title.png So why wouldn't we call it that? -

Hmmm shouldn't be any I did. The only change that is pending on my queue now is Earthbound Zero, 3 approvals and 3 rejections It should be called Earthbound because Earthbound Zero is just a made up name Demiforce gave it when it was first released. I actually donated way back when to get the cart dumped haha
