  1. Regardless of your unhelpful "advice" this is a troubleshooting thread and LaunchBox leaving out half (or more) of the games you told it to import without a prompt because it doesn't approve of your choice of emulator is a major issue. Now either be helpful or go away or I'll report you for thread derailment since you can't seem to say anything on topic or productive.
  2. Your comment is the only one that isn't true. Nonmame lists mame as being the best option (or tied for the best) for the following systems: Acorn (Series) (Computer) ADAM (Computer) Alice32 (Computer) Altair 8800 (Computer) Amstrad CPC (Computer) Apple II (Non-IIGS) (Computer) Apple IIGS (Computer) Aquarius (Computer) Arcadia 2001 (Console) Archimedes (Series) (Computer) Atari 400/800 Series (Computer) Atari 2600 (Console) Atari 5200 (Console) Atari 7800 (Console) CD-i (Console) Central Data 2650 (Computer) ColecoVision (Console) CPS Changer (Console) CreatiVision (Computer) Cybiko (Handheld) Dreamcast Visual Memory System (Handheld) FM Towns Marty (Console) Game Boy (Handheld) Game Boy Advance (Handheld) Game Gear (Handheld) Genesis (Console) Instructor 50 (Computer) Intellivision (Console) JR-200U (Computer) Lynx (Handheld) Macintosh (Non-PowerPC) Master System (Console) MC-10 (Computer) MO Series (Computer) MSX Series (Computer) MZ (Series) (Below 2000) (Computer) MZ-2000 (Computer) MZ-2500 (Computer) Neo Geo AES (Console) Neo Geo CD (Console) Odyssey2 (Console) Othello Multivision (Console) PC-6001 (Series) (Computer) PC98 (Series) (Computer) Pico (Handheld) PIPBUG-based Systems (Computer) PocketStation (Handheld) RX-78 (Computer) Sega Computer 3000 (SC-3000) (Computer) Sega Game 1000 (SG-1000) (Console) Sega Super Control Station (SF-7000) (Computer) Studio II (Console) SuperGrafx (Console) SuperVision (Handheld) TO Series (Computer) TurboGrafx 16 (Console) TurboGrafx CD (Console) TV Games Computer (Console) VC 4000 (Console) Vectrex (Handheld) Videopac+ G7400 (Console) WonderSwan (Handheld) X1 (Computer) X68000 (Computer) ZX Spectrum (Computer) Also you seem to think the disclaimer they put before most systems means mame is bad for them. In many cases the disclaimer is there to let you know that there is some minor audio glitch in some games (games that don't run at all or have more noticeable glitches in other emulators). The people at mame are simply so ocd they give you warnings if mame only covers 99% of the system's library of games perfectly. They literally have a warning to give you a heads up for everything that isn't perfect by their standards. And none of that even matters tbh because if people choose to use mame they should be able to without over half their games not being imported without any warning/prompt from LaunchBox as to why.
  3. Thanks for requesting the fix and yea I figured out how to avoid it but it sure would have been nice if it gave me a heads up it wouldn't include games it doesn't recognize.
  4. Whenever possible I use Mame because it supports many systems either the best or on par with the best. Also Nonmame which lists the most accurate Emulators only lists mame on the systems where it is the best/tied with the best. http://nonmame.retrogames.com/ I don't know why they would make it so the mame importer breaks when used on any other the dozens of platforms mame emulates to near perfection. That's a serious oversight.
  5. Update: Just tried importing the Atari 2600 pack and it imported... 3 games. Just 3 games out of the entire pack. What is going on?
  6. I'm using the SmokeMonster Atari Lynx rom set and when I set it to import the A-Z game collection and homebrew folder it only imports 45 out of the several hundred games included. I've turned off every mame exclusion option on the importer and selected "Import all clones" and even selected "force importing duplicate games" on the option screen before that. I don't understand why LaunchBox refuses to recognize these games.
  7. Actually that isn't really true. People have basically realized consoles are just computers with fixed hardware now and if they want better graphics they get a pc because the limit of your performance in games is only set by your wallet. Not to mention the mods and hacks. With every major game coming to the pc, xbox, and ps4 the only reason to pick up a modern console would be if something exclusive came out... *cough* ZeldaMarioSmash *cough* Or maybe if the console offered a feature your pc couldn't replicate... *cough* switch *cough*
  8. I cared more about things like Mortal Kombat having blood in it. The extra power and "cool looking" console were just bonuses. But if I had to pick between the snes and gen then I would have to go with the snes. Dat A Link to the Past yo. Not to mention Mario. Huh just realized my reasons for preferring Nintendo have basically staid the same for 30 years lol. Dem exclusives.
  9. Well it still mattered a lot. People named their consoles after it like the Turbografx-16, Turbografx-CD, Sega 32x, Sega CD, Nintendo64. And consoles like the NeoGeo existed and still sold relatively well despite being 3 times the cost of any other console with games 15 times the cost. And don't forget "Blast processing"!
  10. Well the fact that it still used cartridges actually did matter to a lot of people because they cost more to produce than cds so game developers didn't want to produce for the system as they would get smaller markups. I'm unsure if that spilled over to the consumer end as well or not and resulted in inflated game prices because I wasn't buying my own games yet.
  11. Yup, but I said it in advance so it is futuresight not hindsight. Went full Nostradamus on you. To be fair I said it would be a system seller but I didn't predict it being "the" system seller. I wonder if this is how people felt about Ocarina of Time when it released? "Wow this is a fantastic, breathtaking, touching game, but man the console it runs on is pretty underpowered." I was worried with it not even doing native 1080p despite coming out years after the Ps4 and Xbox1. Just like I'm sure people were worried about the N64 still using cartridges when everyone else had moved on to cds. Funny how the Switch is the first console back to cartridges now that cds are outdated. Anyways just wanted to bask in the glow of Zelda. I still have 70 more pictures to take and like 750 Korok seeds to find but I can say this is easily the most fun and most time I've sunk into any game that isn't a mmorpg.
  12. Well the beta feature youtube vid of it looks very good. I would especially love it if I could go with something like: Consoles < Nes, Snes, N64, ect Nintendo < Handhelds < GBC, GBA, VB, DS, ect Because right now I just have too many systems =p
  13. Thanks very much. I kept looking for it in "options". Also I got confused, saw their beta feature vid for nested filters and thought it was out already haha oops.
  14. Just returning to this topic now that Breath of the Wild is out and it has sold more copies than switches exist and that statistically enough people bought a switch with a copy of BotW that it rounds to every switch sold with 1 copy of BotW to tell you that I was right. Zelda sells systems.
  15. I'm having problems with 2 features. I'm trying to set launchbox to automatically unzip compressed games but I can't find the option for it anywhere, could anyone point me at it? Also for organization I'm trying to make folders in launchbox but can't figure out how. I want to have a folder like "Nintendo" and then have the Nes, Snes, N64, ect platform folders inside of it.
  16. SentaiBrad said I know PS2 can go forward, PS3 controllers can only be used on PC and oddly 360 (with adapters, and the 360 can work on PS3 with adapters), but realistically the best Sony controller is a PS4 controller (What I use on PC). The feel is the best. In terms of your controller, you're just gonna need to buy a new controller and most 3rd parties suck in this era and back. They're generally more flimsy, and you can still even find PS2 controllers in the packaging. If you want to make it better, they make things like thumbstick caps to make the stick concave instead of convex and add some extra texture to it. Since PS3 and PS4 controllers use USB they don't go back much. The usb port on a PS2 is mostly useless unless you mod it. PS4 controllers work on PS3, but barely. The Home button doesn't work on the PS4 controller and it doesn't work in most games. It could also be your PS2 controller port, so testing the other port or controller would just be your best bet. From what I've researched it sounds like dualshock 2 is the best controller for ps1 & 2, Dualshock 3 a1 is the best for the ps3, and dualshock 4 is the best for ps4.
  17. spektor56 said Dualshock3, they are the last version to support analog face buttons (x,o,/\,[]) Are they backwards compatible with the ps2 AND ps1?
  18. I was setting up my ps2 and I noticed that on the main screen where it says "browser" and "system" none of the buttons I push do anything. Then I noticed when a game was loaded only my up/down arrows would do anything and not any of the buttons I pressed. So I'm fairly certain my controller is broken (unless there is some kind of button lock setting, I did try holding various combinations of [] /\ O and X while it was turning on to enable 480p but I don't think that caused some kind of button lockout) So I was looking into different playstation controllers and I know that dualshock seem to be the most popular but there are many versions and I don't know anything about them so can anyone clear this up at all? Thanks for the help.
  19. SentaiBrad said Zelda sells well when compared within it's own franchise, but no Zelda doesn't sell well as a whole. Interest and hype does not amount to sales. It's not concrete one way or the other but the best reference I found is this: http://www.zeldainformer.com/articles/zelda-sales-numbers-in-context. When you compare that to other franchises or even Mario, these numbers are good but they're not as hyped up as everyone assumes they are. In our circle, Zelda is king. It is my favorite series of all time and I want the new Legend of Zelda to sell millions and millions. The fairest comparison is it broken down per console, as it's not exactly fair to lump them all in together. They're still valid sales, but valid on the system they were released on. It's also no denying the effect and impact it has on us all, and as a franchise has sold really well. People compare this to the best of the best of the best and there are single games that out pace multiple of these titles combined. Zelda is an important series, it's my most favorite series but our wants are stronger than the reality. For the comparison to Mario, http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Mario. Even Mario has made a down turn. I think the Zelda graph fluctuates more than the Mario one. One thing for me true regardless though, I want Nintendo to win and I really hope the new Zelda was a wake up call for them. This looks like literally nothing else they've ever ever made, but it still feels to have the Zelda and Nintendo charm. I hope this sells the NX, because nothing made the Wii U or GameCube sell and the Wii was an anomaly. Even with the insane sales of the Wii, Zelda series didn't necessarily get a huge boon in sales. Twilight Princess vs New Super Mario Bros. is a good example. Mario got a gigantic spike, and Zelda did a bit too, just not as severe. It's funny too because even though the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess is missing 16:9, people still called it the better of the two. Thankfully the HD remake trumps both. :P I really enjoyed the wii version because while motion controls for some games were strange punching with the nunchuck to shieldbash and swinging the wiimote at different angles to slash/stab with the sword was an amazing experience imo.
  20. SentaiBrad said Zelda historically doesn't sell great actually, it doesn't move the needle in that way. Zelda sold great on Wii (Twilight Princess), but on Gamecube it was low. Granted 1m isn't low, but for a series like this where everyone assumes it sells consoles... that's low. 2014 was the year of kick ass games on the Wii U, Smash always being called a System seller, and none of those games helped sell more Wii U's sadly. I love my Wii U, the games on it are great, but it was a shit storm coming from the Blue Ocean strategy that killed the Wii U, and the fact that it was outdated a year later. Nintendo's unwillingness to go towards Internet based stuff also has not helped. Wii U eShop sales of games only accounts for 8% of their sales, and it's not because people don't want to, it's because it sucks. I have an external drive plugged in to my 32GB Wii U because 32GB is a joke. Xenoblade Chronicles X, assuming the Wii U had nothing else on it, would fill the entire system. Nintendo lost 3rd party at Gamecube, only had some 3rd party support in Wii because of the gigantic install base but NO ONE talks about the Wii ports of anything and we obviously ignore all the shovel ware, so they didn't retain them for the Wii U. I would say... Zelda clearly sells as well as I feel it should. It is the number 1 game at E3 and responsible for slightly under half of the overall interest in Nintendo (Not really a good thing considering Nintendo is in last place, but hey, at least Zelda gets the love) (Posted as a joke not an insult, no ban plz)
  21. ASentaiBrad said How I got in to MPC was through K-Lite. I used to tell it to not install it, and one installation I forgot to uncheck it. I still use MPC for certain things, but all my TV Shows, Anime and Movies are through Kodi. I also do suggest anyone who has issues with WMP Playback to install K-Lite and it usually fixes their problems. It even has some detection for errors in the codecs and will fix them too. I agree completely that k-lite is absolutely essential for wmp, but wmp is completely optional and I would never suggest anyone stick with it anymore than I would suggest someone stick with internet explorer.
  22. I have to agree that multiple codecs packs is a horrible idea and usually will end up in some major lag/loading time/memory leak issues, or just you having a bunch of outdated standards on your computer taking up needless space. If you need to use a codecs pack then k-lite is 100% the way to go and should play anything you would reasonably encounter. Personally though I prefer a media player with some kickass theming options, customizable shortcut keys, fast startup times, and that won't gray screen mid video which is why I use PotPlayer (but that is windows only) and SMPlayer on my linux systems.
  23. SentaiBrad said If we made the switch we would probably go towards Media Player Classic, as I believe they're fully open like VLC. We've since actually gotten rid of a majority of bugs with VLC, which was only giving a small amount of people issues. If we switched though, it might end up taking more time because we also can't say for sure there won't be any bugs for us to fix. In terms of LaunchBox as well, we still offer WMP Playback which is still also perfectly fine. The only draw back is a user needs to install something like K-Lite Codec Pack Standard (which they should anyways as it's essential for video and audio playback), and it's not readily aparent to most users. oh yea, and you could probably just link them to the codecs in the settings area to enable WMP. I just wanted to let you guys know mplayer was a really solid choice if you are thinking about shopping around.
  24. For the longest time I used vlc player because it was the best, however I feel once it reached the top of the pile it stagnated and made no major improvements. As a result things like videos turning gray randomly would happen fairly often. It got to the point where I simply wasn't happy with vlc player anymore. Then I made the switch to SMPlayer which is a fork of MPlayer and haven't had any issues at all as well as it simply running faster. I remember hearing that vlc player was giving you issues so perhaps you may want to check out mplayer or one of its many forks. This article was a large reason I made the switch: http://www.in.techradar.com/news/software/applications/The-best-media-player-for-performance-2014/articleshow/38644460.cms?page=2 (Pot player is also really good but it is windows only so I assume that is a nono)
  25. And that's just my wish list. Other stuff that I already own includes: (Spoilered to avoid those not interested having to load all the pictures)
