@martinconroy One thing you might want to do is update your Windows 10--- build 1511 is from November of last year. If you haven't gotten 1607 automatically yet (the "Anniversary Update") you can download it manually from Microsoft's Windows 10 site with the update tool. Not a guaranteed fix of course, but being current is a good starting point :-)

Thanks @snarfo67 - will do that now. My previous installation was on the Anniversary update so I don't think it's that but worth trying. Given the Windows Update said I was up to date I (foolishly) thought I was!

@martinconroy Bah. One thing that confuses me is why on earth your voices would be showing "Mobile" on a desktop version of Windows. What type of device are you using? Is it a tablet? A laptop? I also don't understand why the Microsoft libraries are giving me completely different results than what is in your list; I'm pretty baffled at this point. I want to put out the official release today so we might not be able to resolve this before 6.9, but we'll get there one way or another.

Try just changing the speech recognition options first. Go to Control Panel > Speech Recognition > Advanced speech options and the Speech Properties dialog should show up. At the top is a Language drop down. I'm curious to know what language you have selected there. There are separate options for both the speech recognition language and the speech synthesis language I believe, and I would guess the speech recognition options are more important.

Hi @Jason Carr - thanks for persisting with this. Currently using a brand new Alienware desktop with clean install of Windows 10 home, though my Dell laptop had the same issues.

As for why they are labelled "mobile", not sure - don't recall it ever being different.Have updated languages to include UK but that's all.

Below are my settings in the speech properties:

In language I have options for UK (selected) and ("English - US")

Capture2.PNGCapture3.PNGAs you can see Desktop voices appear on this list and it's completely at odds with what appears in my Time & Language settings!
Capture4.PNGWhen I change the language to US in Speech Properties -> Speech Recognition I get the below warning which highlights that there is potential for conflict!

    Capture5.PNG

I have now changed The Region and language settings to US but to no avail - no recognition still. I'm happy to test as much as is required and will try to be on the dev session tonight for at least some of the time. Don't know if the easiest thing may be for you to try and install the UK languages as default for a while and see if you get the same results, or at least see if other UK users have any settings that are different?

And another new beta is out. @martinconroy I've made some tweaks in this beta that I'm hoping *might* fix your issue. I noticed some conflicts between UK English and US English when initializing the recognition so I'm hoping that this will finally fix the issue. The UK English voices should now show up in the list as well. Let me know how this one fares. Note that it's normal for loading times to be increased (in some cases significantly) when voice recognition is enabled; I plan to do more optimizations for it at some point in the future.

Thanks @Jason Carr. Sorry, but no change. Beta 27 still only shows "Zira" and "David" for Speech synthesis when I don't even have "David". My list shows Susan, Zira, Mark and George.

Maybe the best thing to do would be for me to set up as if it were a US system, check if that works, and then worry about the UK? If so, what do I need to change in my system settings? Speech Language? Languages?

    Current settings as per below:

  4. Hey @Jason Carr. I just can't get speech recognition to work at all. I have tried using the speech recognition on my new computer as I thought my old computer was the issue but it's the same.

    • Loading takes a lot longer - it's stuck on "Initialising voice recognition" for a good 10 seconds.
    • Nothing I say in LB or BB is recognised. The standard Microsoft Speech recognition works fine for controlling the PC so it's not that which is the issue. I've even tried moving the slider for recognition all the way to the right and still nothing.
    • When I switch Debug mode on I don't even see a box like I've seen on your system in streams.
    • Every time I change a setting in the voice dialogue it takes forever to save to the point when Windows thinks LaunchBox is not responding.
    • This happens regardless of whether I state that I'm using a "Speech Language" of "English (United States)" or "English (United Kingdom)"
    • For Speech Synthesis I only see Zira and David as voices, even though David isn't on my voice list and others are (see below)

Very happy to work with you on fixing this. Feel free to email me privately if easier and I have TeamViewer installed if you ever want to take control!

  5. I have previously raised the query of synchronising installations of LaunchBox between computers. I know that Jason uses DropBox but I wanted to raise awareness of an alternative.

There are several reasons why DropBox may not be the best solution - the obvious one being cost! Also, people may not want their info floating in the cloud or simply be restricted by bandwidth/ connection speeds.

FreeFileSync was recommended to me, but I have found what I believe to be a better alternative for myself. That is BitTorrent Sync.

The key benefit of both of these is that they are free, however BitTorrent sync seems to have a great interface and is incredibly simple. You simply install on each machine, and then select the folder to be synced. You are then given a unique code which can be entered on the second machine and the folders are linked (and synced). This can be read/write (i.e. updates both ways), or you can get a "read only" code, which means that you have a "master" installation and all others will be synced to that.

Another benefit is that there is no space limit - i.e. you are only limited by your hard drive space. Also, if you have many machines you benefit from the torrenting meaning that the load is shared and (hopefully) speed increased!

The single downside is that (because it's not cloud) based the computer you are on needs to be able to connect to another computer on your network with the data to sync. Don't get me wrong - that can be locally or over the web, but both machines need to be on. If you have a server machine or NAS drive however this is an ideal solution - I recommend checking it out.

Here I am syncing between two local machine:

  6. Jason Carr said Do you have background videos turned on, Martin? The videos should only show up in that view if background videos are enabled.
Yes, all 3 video options switched on. Tried switching off and no videos, and back on and same result. Videos show fine in all other views with both media players
  7. No problem - away from home, but trusty external drive of games and controller with me :) Both video engines seem to play videos fine in all screens. Only comments are that: a) Some videos seem stretched to wide-screen. Not a big deal, and probably no better option, just a comment. b) No video in coverflow view which makes sense c) No video in console list in the below view, just background image. Should there be? http://imgur.com/a/SW2Jy
  8. Absolutely Jason - totally agree. These release are so solid in general and frequent that it's not a panic if things get pushed back until the "next release". OT - enjoyed watching your Billy & Jay song earlier. Interesting to see your musical tastes. Saw Shinedown with Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm and Highly Suspect earlier this year on the Carnival of Madness tour here in the UK. Seeing Alter Bridge in November and buying tickets tomorrow to take my two little girls to Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed in January. They have been well raised ;)
  9. I note that when deleting a platform there still isn't an option to delete the ROM. Wondering if it would be good to get this consistent before 6.4. I guess a dialog as per the below is a step too far ;) https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox/issues/1224/delete-roms-images-when-deleting-platforms
  10. Hi @Jason Carr Minor annoyance... When you load Launchbox, if there is a dialog for a new beta, but if the "Welcome" dialog is showing neither are easy to access. You can't close the "Welcome" as the update dialog is dominant, but that is hidden behind the Welcome dialog.
  11. SentaiBrad said Yea I can see how that would works. If someone wants to create a ticket for this (if they haven't already), then please feel free. Link back to the specific reply in the Ticket please, so Jason can see some context, and you can copy paste some of the stuff from here. The link button next to the post's number will give you the link to that post in your address bar.
Will sort out when back at my laptop, probably Monday.
  12. Yes, I totally understand why they appear in that order, but my point is that most people would want to sort them in a more logical numerical order and if this was included through the availability of a "sort order" tag then this could be automated rather than users having to do this themselves.
  13. Thanks @SentaiBrad - some sensible points raised. How about we simply improve the options available on the forms improving clarity at the same time. Maybe something like the below (apologies for the rough nature of the mock-up!) Mock up
  14. SentaiBrad - I'm referring to the actual ROM files. When deleting a platform, whilst you are told that games will be deleted there is NO prompt relating the deletion of the ROM files themselves, and no deletion takes place. I am of the opinion that you should either be asked if you want to delete the ROM files or (if not) advised that this will not delete the ROM files themselves and that there are other ways to do that. Personally I think you should be asked about deleting the files as well for the sake of consistency. Also, it's frustrating that when you do this all platform related media remains. Surely images etc relating to the games should also be deleted?
  15. It would be useful if the "Sort order" could also be stored in the Games DB (if applicable). The reason is largely where you have a series where roman numerals may be used for items. e.g. Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V etc, or where titles have names which doesn't imply an order that actually exists. In this case the display order may or may not be "logical" but would be good if this could be stored (and retrieved) from the database.
  16. imdavid555 said I think this is a bad idea. Last thing you want is someone deleting an entire platform of games by accident. Just browse to that platforms rom folder in Windows Explorer and Right-click>delete.
Agree that this may be the case, I just think that it may be that the message on the dialogue could be clarified or improved given the new option to delete ROMs elsewhere.
  17. Jason Carr said This doesn't solve Martin's problem, though; I looked at the code and all I can figure is that the ROM paths are incorrect...nothing else seems to make sense. Let me know what shows up in the ROM path for those games, Martin.
Aargh - can't replicate and I cleared out my ROMS and reimported after this issue. Will cancel the BitBucket for now, and if it happens again will check all the details and then log how to replicate. Sorry for the distraction.
