ah great! so
1st method: if i use the NeoGeo Copy Zip.bat, i'm sure that in any case when i run clrmame in order to verify my fullromser, it will not delete the new folder named neogeo, am I right?
2nd method: great, so after the import in bigbox of MAME full set, i can create my own playlist with all Neo Geo games?!? Great!! This feature will be add to Launchobx 7.8 if i'm not wrong?!
thanks

Hi
i have the MAME 0.183 full set and i would like to add it to launchbox. I know that it is possible, am I right?
I tried a lot of emulator and MAME is the best emulator for neo geo games too so i would like, in addition, to visualize the Neo Geo games list separately. Is it possible? Or have i to configure a 2nd MAME folder, with ONLY the neo geo games and then add it to Launchbox? It would be more easy and comfortable to add to Launchbox only the MAME full set and if possible to visualize the Neo Geo list when i want, as a separate emulator.
If this isn't possible I think that i have to creare a 2nd MAME folder specifically with only neo geo games and add it to Launchbox/BigBox...
thank you!

thanks! I have configured Demul, it seems good! But nullDC too it seems really good. I noticed that for example some games are better in nullDC (games from NGdev in particular) and others games are better in nullDC.
In Launchbox/Big Box if I want I can add both emulators even if they are referred to the same system, am I right? Launchbox consider them as 2 different emulators of different systems, am I right?
Last question: if I want to change some video setting in DEMUL (i noticed that some games are better with a particular video plugin), i can't do this change directly from lauchbox, is it correct? First i run Demul and i change the video setting; then i run launchbox and i run finally Demul. is it correct?
thanks

yeah, many thanks! i will follow this guide in order to configure it!
I have also found this video:
I think that with this I will configure Demuls in Launchbox

Ah ok! Yes I have a good pc. This one:
CPU:Intel 1150 i5-4690K M.B.:GIGABYTE Z97MX-Gaming5 VGA:Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4.0GB G1 GAMING RAM:ARES 2x4GB DDR3-2133 SDD:SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB HDD:SEAGATE 3.5" 3000GB ST3000DM001 Barraud Diss:Thermalright HR-02 MACHO REV.B Ali:Thermaltake Paris 650W ATX 80+Gold SO:WS 7 ULT.SP1 64BIT
Do you confirm that the latest version of NullDC is 1.0.4? I found 2 versions: nullDC SVN r150 or nullDC vs2013-fix Git (2015/09/18)
And the Demul latest version is this: DEmul x86 v0.7 Alpha BUILD 180816
DO you know if both emulators support .iso and .cdi file? In your opinion which is the best of the 2? Which is the emulator with better filters and so on?
many thankS

hi guys
i would like to configure the Dreamcast emulator in Retroarch and then use it with Launchbox.
Do you know if there is a video tutorial in order to configure it properly? Is it a good emulator with filters and options in order to have a similar crt tv effect ad other emulators as bsnes or FBA Arcade?
thanks!

many thanks guys!

ah! so now when there is an update i can udate launchbox automatically?! Good to know! thanks!
And which is the right procedure to update Launchbox/Big Box? Every time it will be released a new version i will download the full pack and then...? How can update it correctly without loosing my settings?
I have the .xml file for my forever-update licence of Big Box: if i'm not wrong i have to put it in the installation folder of Launchbox in order to activate Big Box and in order to have permanent update, am I right?

ah ok ok, thank you.

And after the installation/configuration of Launchbox/Big Box, when I will update it, which is the right procedure in order to don't loose all my settings and so on?

well it is the first time I configure retroarch, but for sure i will have only one installation in the same folder. I think that when i will update retroarch I will overwrite everything in my current Retroarch folder (or delete it and unzip the new pack) and keep saved only few folders (config, and something else, i don't remember now very well which folders I have to save from my current version)
So, if I will maintain the same root of Retroarch emulator, I don't need to change anything in Launchbox, yeah!
-
yes this is the 1st video a linked above
ok i will start with this one. Is it exmplained how to link Retroarch and Launchbox? When i will update the emulator of Retroarch, do you know if they will be automatically updated in Launchbox?

Hi,
I have just downloaded Launchbox 7.6 and I bought some months ago a forever-update licence of Big Box. But I start only now with the configuration of this fantastic frontend.
Well, currently I have configured RetroArch 1.3.7 with 3 emulators: Super Nintendo (bsnes emulator), Nintendo NES (Nestopia) and Neo Geo (FBA Arcade).
Now I want to start with Launchbox and Big Box: do you think that this is the best video in order to start with first installation and set up?
or this one?
Or do you suggest another guide for noobs?
many thanks!
-
yess. with that tool now the roms are correctly recognized in RA!
I have just bought a forever licence of Big Box
Tomorrow I will start to configure it!! I'm looking the Tutorial page in youtube of Lauchnhbox channel. For a beginner, do you think that this video is the best?
Emulating the SNES - How to Set Up Retroarch for Beginners - LaunchBox Tutorials [Updated Tutorial] or for example this LaunchBox Tutorials - Emulating NES & Famicom Disk System
Or in addition this is a good video i think:
-
aaaah ok!!!!!! You are right, for sure! ok many thansk i will try both that tool but i will try LaunchBox/Big Box in the next days!
i will rkeep you upfdated, many thanks!

I solved the problem of the NES!!! I have used a new installation of RA. Then I installed the bsnes core, and it was all right.
Then i insalled Nestopia core and I loaded the rom folder with only 2 roms (i'm sure that these roms works correctly with every emulator!) and this time too the nes icon with its romlist was not present. Then i added a new rom (metroid) to the folder and I scan again the folder and now the Nes icon is present!! But only with Metroid: so it means that for some reason RA doesn't recognize the other 2 roms
See this: http://it.tinypic.com/r/2uokk9k/9
Do you think that it could be a poblem for LaunchBox/Big Box too? If so, I have to be sure that EVERY game/roms is correctly recognized from RA (or other emulator) in order to appear in Launchbox and then download extafiles from launchobx database and from EmuMovies. Are you agree?
many thanks
-
thanks!
1) ok, probably bsnes doesn't allow this option (Znes do it). I will download the USA version of the rom, problem solved
2) done! Editing manually the file, now the playlist is correct
3) done! solved!
4) well, it is strange, i remember that in my first RetroArch installation I was able to see the Nes icon and its playlist...now I downloaded 2 Nes cores (bnes and FCEU) but they aren't available in the XMB of RA...I can in any case load the Nes games via Load Content -->Select File and Detect core, but in this way when I run a Nes Game, if I push Menù Toggle, I can't manage and set up emulator controls because the voice "Controls" is missing! See here please: http://it.tinypic.com/r/207rdbd/9
Istead, if i Load a game from the playlist of the emualator (FBA or Snes), I can manage controls of that emulator: http://it.tinypic.com/r/2ujjjue/9
I think that Big Box can't solve this problem because i have to set the emualtor control mapping in RA, not in LaunchBox/Big Box. Ok i will ask in RetroArch forum too, i hope they can help me
thank you very much!

yessssssssssssssssss!!! thank you very much!!!!! Now it works!! With Configuration per Core, every time I load a core, RA automaticaly loads its .cfg file (created previously automatically when I exit from RA). And BigBox and LaunchBow will load these .cfg file automatically too, is it correct?
I have only few issues:
1) Using PAL roms of Super Nintendo, with bsnes_accuracy, the games runs at original framerate (50Hz): is it possible to force them at 60Hz? I think so, but i don't know how..
2) I think that there is a bug in the rom list. I have 4 games correctly loaded in bsnes and, after downloading thumbsnail, i can see their box cover. Good. Then I tried to change the name of one of the 4 roms, in particular Actraiser (USA).zip to Actraiser.zip in order to see if RA is able to detect in any case its box cover file. Well, even if I have change again the rom name in Actraiser (USA).zip, now after Add Content --> Scan Directory, i still continue to see Actraiser game 2 times with its box! See my picture: http://it.tinypic.com/r/sgofo9/9 Is it a bug? I also tried to delete the rom and again Add Content --> Scan Directory, but the romlist still is the same, i continue to see 2 times Actraiser (but of course if i try to run it, RA says that the rom isn't available). For example every time that i delete a rom or add a new rom, which is the rigth way to update the romlist for that core?
3) How can I delete a core that I have dowloaded but that now I want to delete from my core list?
4) using the same method described in the post above:
- Main Menu → Add Content
- Scan Directory → Scan This Directory (Checksums must match or games won't appear)
- Go back to Home Screen
- Settings → Playlists → Set each Playlist's Default Core
- In the Main Menu you will now see a Playlist for each console.
I added a new emualtor, Nestopia. But now, at step 4, in Playlist, I can't find the System so I can't set the default core for NES (see my picture: http://it.tinypic.com/r/1124qr5/9 ). And, in this case, i'm not able to see the Nes icon with its romlist...see here, i only have FBA and Snes icons/romlists: http://it.tinypic.com/r/2lsd0dk/9
The roms works because if i go in Load Content --> Load File and detect Core, I'm able to load the roms. But in any case there is something wrong...:(
thank you very much!
-
thank you.
Yes, you are right, the controller setting wors exactly as you described. It is clear.
Speaking about Per Core config: i set this option = ON and now my Config options in retroarch.cfg are: http://it.tinypic.com/r/11u9r3m/9
Then:
1) I loaded bsnes_accuracy core, I set Video filter = Blarg_NTSC_SNES_RGB and then I push Save New Config. Retroarch creates the bsnes_accuracy_libretro.cfg file
2) I loaded fbalpha_libretro core, I set Video filter = 2xSal and then I push Save New Config. Retroarch creates the fbalpha_libretro.cfg file
Now, this is my folder: http://it.tinypic.com/r/6glrwy/9
Now, if I enter in retroarch, and i Load Snes emulator, Retroarch doesn't automatically load the .cfg file of the system. So, i try to load it manually (Load Configuration --> bsnes_accuracy_libretro.cfg), but if i do it, Retroarch creashes! Same thing if I try to load the Fba emulator: when i try to load manually its .cfg file, Retroarch crashes
I don't know why, i'm trying to do a lot of test..
-
yeah! the roms work correctly! I have changed the filter, using now for example Super2xSal (in any case i'm downloading the newest romset of FB Alpha 0.2.97.38). I'm really satisfied! Many thanks guys!
So, now it is sure that if I need different video filter (or shaders) for different emulator, and in addition different control mapping for different emulator, it is necessary to have different .cfg files.
Well, i have to find the easiest way in order to have different configurations.
If I save different .cfg files, every time that i load a core, i need to load manually its .cfg files. For example, now I create a default retroarch.cfg file, with my default settings (control mapping for the XMB, video filter, shader, resolutions). Well, I have 2 emualtors now (and i will new emulators in the next days) and for sure:
1) bsnes_accuracy core has its own video filter = Blarg_NTSC_SNES_RGB and control mapping (under Quick menu of the emulator). So, i will push SAVE NEW CONFIG and Retroarch creates a bsnes_accuracy_libretro.cfg file. I put this file in config\bsnes_accuracy folder. Every time that I want to use this core, I load the core and then i have to load manually its own .cfg file. Am I right? And can i create only a bsnes_accuracy_libretro.cfg file that includes also control mapping? I'm searching in the file, but i don't find the rows of the mapping of this emulator...is it necessary to save, in addition, a bsnes.rmp file for the control mapping? Oh my god...2 files for every core..?
2) fbalpha_libretro core has its own video filter = Super2xSal and control mapping: but for this core it isn't available in the Quick menu of the core. Why? does it means that for this core I can't set its own control mapping, if different from the global mapping of the XMB??
And, every time that I need to modify a global parameter in Retroarch.cfg, I have to load Retroarch.cfg, modify that parameter, and save this new version of Retroarch.cfg. Then, I have to create again, manually, every cfg file of every core.
it is heavy...:(
thanks!
-
Yes, i'm using Blarg_NTSC_SNES_RGB because it is the unique RGB filter. And the RGB signal usually is the better choice in order to emulate crt.
Am i wrong? -
ok
I downloaded both the cores:
1) fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro.dll.zip --> Arcade (FB Alpha 2012 Neo Geo)
2) fbalpha_libretro.dll.zip --> Arcade (FB Alpha)
I have used same roms and neogeo bios that i currently have in my FBA 0.2.97.29 and now I have followed exacly these steps (from http://www.powerup.io/gaming/emulators/retroarch):- Main Menu → Add Content
- Scan Directory → Scan This Directory (Checksums must match or games won't appear)
- Go back to Home Screen
- Settings → Playlists → Set each Playlist's Default Core
- In the Main Menu you will now see a Playlist for each console.
And now i added 2 systems (FBA with those 2 cores and Super Nes with bsnes_accuracy) and they are available and I can see their icon and playlist!!!!!
Unfortunately some neogeo games don't work (retroarch creashes) and others work but there is the right side of the screen completly black! See this picture: http://it.tinypic.com/r/28h0jm0/9
So, i'm dowloading the complete FBA 0.2.97.38 romset (it is the newest) and then I will use fbalpha_libretro.dll.zip --> Arcade (FB Alpha) that it is too v.0.2.97.38: i think that with the new romset i will be able to play correctly...i hope
Or do you think that i have to modifiy something in the video options (I have default settings now)
thanks!
-
ok, i will try with my neo geo romset from FBA 0.2.97.29 (in Retroarch there is 0.2.97.30 so i think that it is ok)
Now i create a new retroarch installation. After the first Core Updater, i have these 3 core that probably could be used for Neo geo: fbalpha2012_libretro.dll.zip, fbalpha2012_neogeo_libretro.dll.zip, fbalpha_libretro.dll.zip
I think that the 2nd is the specific fba for Neo Geo (indeed. after the Update Core info File, its name is FBA Alpha 2012 (neo Geo) )
I put neogeo.zip file in the same folder where i put the roms (not in "system").
Now i'm dowloading and updating everything (core, databases, core info, assets, shaders...) and i will create a backup Retroarch folder, cleaned so I can use it if i have try again with some experiments
I hope that with fba roms it will works...i will keep you updated!
-
ah ok!
but in any case, it is impossible to run Neo geo emulator on Retroarch
I added NES emulator (Nestopia), I uploaded core info and database and then i pushed Load content --> Select file or Select file and Detect core (if i choose select froma collection, it is available ONLY the Super Nintendo collection, even if i try to add a new collection scanning the nes rom folder...) and the games work correctly in both ways.
If i run FBA and i try to run every rom (i tried both neo geo roms from MAME and Neo Rage X) Retroarch crashes... The roms have they original name (aof.zip, fatfursp.zip and so on). I don't know where is the problemSo i have created a new installation of Retroarch and I downloaded a new core list: unusually the Neo geo core that i used in the previous version of FBA, named Neo Geo (FB Alpha) is disabbeared! So now i select a different core, named FBA Alpha 2012 (neo Geo). Then I updated databases and Core info as usual, then i pushed Load content --> Select File and detect Core (or Select file) and then i select some roms and then Load Archive with Core but again, retroarch crashes...
I don't know where is the problem, I'm sure that roms are good because i use them in MAME and Neo Rage X...
thank you!
MAME and NeoGeo games on Launchbox/bigbox

great! I will wait 7.8, no problem This is the best solution i think. I can create my Neo Geo list and use the same romset of MAME
In any case i will try the 1st method too, if it works correctly even if i use clrmame. Don't worry, i will do a backup copy
