So it's been almost a month since I've reported my issue and I was still bummed out that I couldn't use this theme because IMO, Retro808 probably made my favorite StartUp theme for Launchbox. I decided to get my hands dirty with the code to see whats going wrong in the .xmal files, until I found this:
<Grid.Background> <SolidColorBrush Color="Black" Opacity="{Binding BackgroundFade}" /> </Grid.Background>
I decided to remove these lines of code and voila- the backgrounds were visible to me now! Granted I'll have to make this change for every platform, but now this theme is working great.

Any chance you have the background fade slider all the way up in your settings? If so adjust it. iexplorer.exe should not be required per Jason.
Nope, its all the way opaque on my end.

I can confirm that this is the case, yet the BGs are still not showing up. Just to be sure, I reinstalled the theme.
Does the images require IEXPLORER.EXE by any chance?

The background images don't seem to show up at all for me. Anything I can do?

For me personally, I won't actually be using loading screens for emulators. I use Launchbox for PC games too. And certain Windows games on slower PCs (ex. Slay the Spire because of the Java Runtime) load particularly slowly. Having startup-screens "mask" the time between hitting the LAUNCH button and the executable actually booting into exclusive fullscreen would be pretty cool.

Hello @faeran. I've already uploaded my review of these themes, but the tl;dr is that they're all great, but suffer from design inconsistencies across platforms (some has video scanlines, some rotate covers, etc).
For this post I wanted to propose a primary suggestion for this project: Uploading a 'general' theme. Something to use as a placeholder for systems without it's own custom theme yet, or those unlikely to have custom themes at all. I believe this is a good idea because it'll match people's less popular platforms with the rest of the project without looking too out-of-place. Maybe have it be some generic retro/pixel look or something.
Otherwise, the only other suggestions I have are mostly a wishlist of platforms to add that are less reasonable to divest energy/time into, but I'll list them anyways in the off-chance they catch your attention:
- NEC TurboGrafx-16
- Nintendo WiiU
- Nintendo DS
- Nintendo 3DS
- Sony PSP
- Sony PS2
And these are less reasonable because these systems lack actual "game covers" to design around. I feel that they fit better under the 'general' theme idea than having dedicated themes themselves, but regardless:
- MAME platform
- PC-Based Arcade Systems (Taito-X, Tekno Parrot, etc)
- Sega Model 2 & 3
- MS-DOS
- Modern Computer Games (Steam/Windows/etc)
Overall your project is great and I hope to see it updated to be even better over time. Thanks.

Was it the reboot or the anti-virus that fixed it?
It was the reboot that fixed it.

You know we have a whole thread dedicated to the latest beta ?
Sorry about that, didn't realize there was a dedicated thread for that.

Thanks! This seems to have fixed the problem for me. For whatever reason, Launchbox Next was completely broken after the update until I followed your advice. Windows were not selectable at all and graphics were broken. Hopefully anybody else who runs into this issue can easily resolve it now.

Updated LB today and my client became this:
Would someone mind pointing me to the previous LB beta download? Lost my local copy.

Hey there- love LB. I have a question regarding LB/LBN. Is there currently a feature-freeze on the "current" LB to help LBN catch-up?

Yeah, that's not changeable currently. I'll update and add that, but I leave on vacation tomorrow for a week so don't expect it anytime soon.
Alright, thanks!

Hey Grila, nice theme. By far, this is the most performant BigBox theme on the GPDWin- even beating out EmulationStation. My problem is that the customizer lacks a "white" color for the banner. If I want to put in my own custom color, where would I go to do that? Thanks in advance.

Well, you know that real-life thing kicked in...not sure if you are aware that making themes for other people isn't my day job. It'll get done eventually when I have the time to start working on it again.
You mean you're not our dedicated theme butler? Thats unfortunate- hopefully real-life stops kickin' mate.

Sooo its been a few months since the OP ... is this thing going to be released anytime soon?

Finally got this issue fixed. It was quite a pain to figure out, but it just had to do with the order of how some things were loaded and how long the different videos took to load. The fix will be out in the next beta.
Sadly no; that'd be nice to kill two birds with one stone, but no luck.
That's what I just fixed...viewing videos fullscreen from the game details menu. Were you referring to something else?
Nope- my bad. Thanks so much!

I can confirm this is a real issue, regardless of whether you're using WMP or VLC. I am able to replicate it with VLC, but only on some videos. It's a pretty strange issue, but I'll get it fixed.
Good to hear! We'd also appreciate looking into the black screen bug, as I can't appreciate my fancy Videogame commercials in fullscreen.

Did either of you two try switching between VLC and WMP to see if it helps? Neil9000 mentioned switching to WMP worked when he tested the issue.
Yep- didn't work.

I am going to tag @Jason Carr on this one to see if he has any insight on it. Sorry I can't help you more, but at least we do have 2 confirmations of the issue now. I had never noticed this myself as I have the game details screen switched off in the options, and I have never used the view full screen option before.
I thought it was just me. I appreciate the confirmation of these issues.

Ah, well that's not what you said. OK ill go and check the game details fullscreen view on mine give me a sec.
I apologize if I wasn't clear. I'm still trying to grasp my launchbox lingo.

>as you can see I have a f-zero video playing
I see. I'm talking about "View Fullscreen Video" within the Game Details panel. I can see the video just fine like your screenshot in the Game List panel, but once I try viewing the video in full-screen it just shows me a black image. My options are already the same as the ones you've set in the pic.

This thread was originally about Launchbox not Bigbox, hence @DOS76 reply. What theme and view are you using in Bigbox? Not all themes and views support background videos, some have specific areas in the views for videos not full screen, others want you to have the background videos unchecked in the options in order for the video to show.
Ah, my bad. I'm using Vertical Wheel 1 on EmulationStation. I don't think this issue is Theme-specific because it happens even on Default and CriticalZone. The background video option is unchecked. Tried all sorts of options with little success. Don't have WMP installed- only VLC.

Autoplay video is in the view menu of Launchbox.
Ah! I was looking at the options under BigBox, not Launchbox. BUT, I'm still unable to see fullscreen videos on BigBox.

Sorry, but where did you find this option? I can't find it anywhere and I have the same issue.

I see. Perhaps "Additional Apps/Versions" might need a overhaul for users like us. I'd like to rename mine to "Launch Additional Content", etc. OP wants the old system. Perhaps giving people more options would benefit LB?
Unified Redux
in Big Box Custom Themes
Posted · Edited by Mithrot
Added image.
Hey guys- having a very weird issue- Unified Redux isn't finding any of my background images (video borders, fanart, etc) when I moved launchbox onto a portable drive. Nothing I do seems to fix it. What gives?
An image of the issue is attached and yes- the fanarts are in the proper folder (LaunchBox\Themes\Unified Redux\Images\Theme\Background) with the proper format (.jpg).
-EDIT-
Looking into this issue deeper ... it seems like this only happens if you launch BigBox on a portable drive?? Slapping everything even onto a different PC will make backgrounds work again.
I just don't even understand.
