This Black Friday or Cyber Monday I am going to try and get a new computer and I want to move launch-box to that new computer. I assume I have to install launch-box on the new computer first, then do I copy my old Launch-box folder onto an external hard drive and then copy my old folder over my Launch-box folder in my new computer? Will this keep Launch-box exactly as it is on my old computer complete with not just all the games and emulators but any setup necessary? I know dos games sometimes require VERY specific installation. I saw this post and I'm not so much interested in making it portable as just moving it so I'm sure I don't need to do as much as is in the video. Plus I didn't know if I should continue another persons topic.

Installing/Adding PC Windows Games easily
starfiretbt replied to SentaiBrad's topic in Troubleshooting
Non-installed Windows games are easy, like neil9000 said you can just drag the .exe file into LaunchBox. I am more concerned with Windows games that require installation and usually install files and folders all over my computer such as in my program files, my program files (x86), my documents sometimes for game saves, and any other place. I am going to need a new computer real soon and I was hoping I can just move LaunchBox into my new computer and everything would be good to go, I really don't want to have to reinstall a bunch of programs. -
I want to play a game that has an expansion pack, the game is (1) and the expansion is (2), it claims to be an add-on requiring the original game. Do I combine the folders into one? Do I import the ms-dos original game and select the expansion as "additional apps?" The site comes with comments giving instructions but I am not good with mounting and DosBox. This is why I use LaunchBox. Also can you tell me what an "ISO version" of a game means? When I look it up It sounds like "isometric" but I thought there wasn't any other version of this game. EDIT: I have the same question about patches, just copy into folder?

I got it back, thank you. And I know what I have to do with MAME.
-
I tried but Norton scared me by calling it a specific malware virus, The only reason I have Norton is because it's free with Comcast. Is there a way to redownload any launchbox files that Norton might have taken? I just updated MAME so I know how to take a folder and copy it's contents into another folder, copying over any files already there and adding any files missing. Do I need to submit a receipt for BigBox and Premium? I should have both.

It's a merged set, what if I just make a list of the few games I like and download them separately and put them in another folder because right now I have thousands of games with lots of them looking like garbage. By the way, LB wanted to update today and I think my Norton anti-virus just removed a file called bigbox.ll something, did I lose something important? It looks like big box isn't working anymore.

So it sounds like it would be easier to just move the games I want, which is just a handful, and delete the whole folder with the rest. By the way how do I set the delete option for a complete delete? I don't see it in tools or options.

When I downloaded M.A.M.E. I downloaded one of those multi packs that was, if I remember correctly, about 40-60 Gigabytes in size and contained around 4,000 games, most junk games. I would like to select multiple games and delete them not just from LB but also from my computer. As it stands I have to individually 1. select a game I don't want 2. Open file location 3. find the file as listed in LB 4. delete the game from LB and 5. delete the file from my computer. This is going to be a lot of work for 4,000 games and I would much rather just 1. select multiple games and 2. delete them from LB and my computer instead of having to search for the file it is running from, especially since the files are in folders with weird codes for names. It almost seems easier to select just the games I want, move them into another folder, delete the original folder, and kick myself for downloading this insanely huge variety pack instead of just downloading the individual game roms.

Thank you for that information.

The metatdata and media finally continued just now after 24 hours. Is there anything else that could be done other than waiting a day for what I guess was an error as that was what it got listed as?
-
I tried the "download metadata and media" yesterday and since I have over 4 thousand games, mostly from some kind of variety pack from the M.A.M.E. website it takes a while for all that to download media from. After a day it seems to be stuck on a particular game. How do I unstick it? If I hit cancel will I lose all the metadata and media I got from this?

So if it says "; This section closes Snes9x when pressing Escape $Esc:: { Process, Close, {{{StartupEXE}}} }" I want to leave the top section like this right? "; This section closes Snes9x when pressing Escape"
-
I installed 11.4, but while I have you is there a way to disable certain Launchbox keys? When I run Snex9x the esc key is supposed to disable key commands but within Launchbox it shuts down the game. I have to disable keys when changing game controller configurations. I supposed I could always edit key commands outside of Launchbox but what if I am running a program that needs the esc key?

OK I reinstalled LB and it works now, thank you guys. It even preserved "Big Box" and "Premium" which I purchased.
-
Sorry to bother you guys again but what do you mean putting things in non-default locations? I might have made some changes to folders and where things are stored, for example when I started M.A.M.E. I moved the roms to a folder called "M.A.M.E." but I think Launchbox prefers a folder called "Arcade" which it keeps making for those roms. I don't remember if I made any other changes other than a notepad text file reminding me to move other files when I switch to a new computer.

I'm using windows 10, so currently my launch box address is C:\Users\TBTol\LaunchBox and when it asks where I need to request C:\Users\TBTol right? Sorry for asking dumb questions I am just very worried about screwing this up and losing data. For future reference how would I back up launch box? Just copy the whole folder in bold? C:\Users\TBTol\LaunchBox
-
So what's the solution? Do I re-download Launchbox and if I do will I be able to keep all the information from the old launchbox? Things like images, game information, all that stuff? EDIT: I'm asking this because I am trying to understand what they are saying and that's what it sounds like. If you say I will keep my information I will do it.

I just updated launchbox because it suggested I do that, I restarted my computer just as it suggested, now Launchbox won't open when I click on it. Task manager doesn't show anything starting either.

Installing/Adding PC Windows Games easily
starfiretbt replied to SentaiBrad's topic in Troubleshooting
If I wanted to install a windows game in launchbox do I choose the location C:\Users\(myusername)\LaunchBox\Games\Windows as a location? That's where all my windows games that didn't need to be installed are, the ones that are in self contained folders that can easily be moved. -
Before I started emulating old games I played and still play a lot of online games. Most online games require adobe flash to run which I hear web browsers are giving up. I downloaded a swf file player as an emulator and have been saving the web pages the games have been hosted on so the games I loved aren't lost forever. However Most of what I save from the web page looks like useless files, such as files intended to run ads. I can recognize the .swf file and can guess which files I don't need but I can't tell if some of the files in the folder are essential for the running of the game. Can Launch box tell if a file is needed for a game to function?

I have been trying to play the game "Master of Magic" for Dos but Launch Box won't run the game. I think it's because there are five different applications in the download, one is the install file which easily goes to the "configure" selection. When I select the application file that runs the game it opens but then immediately closes. Do I need to add the other application files somewhere in the "edit" section? I have the same problem with "Wing Commander: Privateer"
-
Where is this Taewon build?
-
I downloaded Wing Commander Privateer but I can't get LB to open it. It came with three files, one LB recognizes as the configuration file which works, another opens but is only 9 KB and it only tries to calibrate the joystick but says the joystick is uncalibrated and closes, the last is what is think is the actual game as it is 903 KB but it won't open. I imported it as an MS-DOS game and yes it is DOS, it is in the location it is supposed to be.
-
I have been trying to play "Wing Commander: Privateer" however when I try to start the game I get a joystick calibration screen asking me to move the joystick and press buttons. However no matter what I do it ends with it saying "joystick calibration is not correct. Please re-calibrate." How do I do that? Also when I imported the game I noticed there were three files, one an install file that LB adds to the "configure" option when I right click and two other files. One is small (9KB) and is the one that wants a re-calibrated joystick, the other is large (903KB) and doesn't open at all.

So I have always unzipped games I played when I loaded them in LB, however I downloaded a M.A.M.E. emulator and some kind of game collection including thousands of games all zipped. The games play just fine despite this. Is this because of the way M.A.M.E. emulators work and is it possible for LB to do the same?
