So I just wanted to chime in as its been ..a million years, and a handful of folks have mentioned it so I figured I'd upload the raw PSD file of the main platform/ console view. It's in the downloads section for New Retro Big Box, ..I left a comment with the file in there. Have fun!

Hey all, so I've got Demul setup ...no issues with it actually launching into fullscreen. BUT what is weird is it will launch ..run through the dreamcast logo ..and then hang ...seemingly forever UNTIL I hit alt+enter. It will go into windowed mode and continue loading into the game ..and I can can go back into fullscreen and play just fine. Has anyone run into this? It's not crucial, but I intend to have launchbox in an arcade cabinet ..and it would be much more convenient to not have to hit alt+enter everytime I play a dreamcast game. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

OH man! Ok, It took a little messing around but it works! Thanks so much! I just needed to type it letter by letter.

Has anyone had any luck with exiting from games with the escape key? I'm playing Dragon's Crown and escape only goes into windowed mode. I'm not sure I totally get how to exit back to Launchbox.
-
Duh, that makes sense. Thanks for your help!

This is such a noob question, and I should know how to do this by now, but can someone point me to where I can change in bigbox how to use clear platform logos vs banners? I'm embarrassed to even ask but ..there ya go.
-
So here's a question...at the moment my platform images are replacements for the banner images. That works well enough as long as you don't change views. Is there any reason you cant have images that aren't banners...that change while scrolling through the platforms.
Is that sort of what Shinra was asking about?
Also @eatkinola I saw you mentioning on the "Bedroom theme about converting the images into video ..I thought about this after making a few images. In your opinion ..is that a better decision than layer in images like Im talking about above?
-
Gotcha, that makes sense, thank you so much, I'll toss together some mockups and test this out.
-
When you say, "outside the theme folder" do you mean just that, they themselves would have to manually put the files where the live, considering that you can rename the platform folder?
-
Great, thank you! Also, I haven't said so yet, but that theme is gorgeous, super clean, it feels really complete. You did really solid work on it, it shows. I really am just frankensteining stuff together, so I appreciate the help. Ok so my WheelGamesView just has the static background with game videos playing in a smaller box, so what I would be trying to accomplish would be platform specific background images ..so here is my code for just displaying the image as is.
<!--BACKGROUND IMAGE--> <Image Source="pack://siteoforigin:,,,/Themes/New Retro Big Box/Images/Game wheel.png" Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" RenderOptions.BitmapScalingMode="HighQuality" Panel.ZIndex="5" Grid.RowSpan="7" Grid.ColumnSpan="8"/>

I don't believe I have anything right now code wise, (it's just a universal static image for all platforms at the moment) But I'll send you that regardless. So something I am realizing is that, to get videos to play where I wanted them, I did some hacky stuff that breaks things for other themes. For instance, for my theme to work, I had turned off "show game videos" and "show platform videos" in the options. I can't recall why I had to do that, but I realize that it's causing people trouble when they download it, so I need to find a better method for that. Are you ok with me digging in your code and snagging some of it if I can get it to work in my theme?
-
So it looks like that bit of code is nested in a <Textblock.Text> header ...would that be necessary if it's pulling something different, ala a background image like we're talking about? I don't know enough code to know how necessary that header and footer are.

@skainlurmis: Yes, this is possible. I'm not at home now to cut and paste the code, but consider looking at the XAML for my Minimal-AO theme. The Games Wheel 2 and 3 pages use SelectedGame.PlatformName to find and load the platform clear logo. You should be able to do something very similar to change the background image based on platform.
Fantastic, thanks for that! I appreciate it!

Hey everyone, I'm starting to dig to hopefully add some community suggestions to my theme, and didn't know if it was possible to have different images or backgrounds in the games list view. Basically ..lets say I choose snes, when it moves to games list could I have a different image there vs a different platform? I didn't think it was possible, but I was curious. Thanks everyone (and I'm very sorry if this has been mentioned and answered before)
-
Also, ..so that's a ....pretty insane list of platforms up top, any suggestions on what I should tackle first? What is everyone looking for the most and then maybe in the future I can start getting to the more obscure stuff.

OOOOOHHHH I Love that!!! That's great! I don't know about other creators or if there is a general rule about that, but I personally am fine with that. My big thing is if you did come out with something, that you just mention "this was based on ..." or just some form of credit. Otherwise please, go crazy. I'll get some template files up today and I'm going to start trying to address some of the suggestions above. I'm just glad you like it!
@stephy This may be a really stupid question, but have you switched views at all? I only implemented the one view, but I believe as "default views" go it might be the second or third, so you would have to scroll through them.
Here are my personal settings

Awesome! I'm glad it's working, I hope that could potentially help some of the other folks having problems.
As far as the template, absolutely! I built to photoshop file so it could (hopefully) be pretty editable.I'll take a look at it tonight or tomorrow and clean it up so I can be uploaded.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the feedback. Ive been taking a little break for the holidays ..(my job has me in front of a computer all day as it is) But hopefully i can get back in there and add some more to it.
As per some folks having problems with the videos not playing,I'm still not sure why its doing that. If anyone wants to see those posts earlier in this thread and dig in there to see if they can fix it, feel free.
Thanks for your interest and hopefully I can have some updates soon. Peace!

Hrrrmmm, weird, ok I'm gonna dig around in the xaml and see what the deal could be. Thanks for the info.

New Retro Big Box
View File
This is a theme meant to really lean hard on nostalgia. It's inspired by "New Retro Arcade Neon" and uses some of it's assets. As of right now, it consists of 1 view, and the goal is to add more platforms if there is demand for it. The platform images are "banner" images, so using a different view with this will look a little funky.
For a little extra immersion, I have Andy Hofle's "Arcade Ambience" mp3 as the background music. Those mp3's can be found here. - http://arcade.hofle.com/
Thanks and I hope you enjoy it!

Ok, so I'm going to go ahead and upload this guy, but just a heads up, there are many MANY platforms that aren't done. Also, anyone who downloads it and has any suggestions on how to implement things better, by all means please let me know. This is my first attempt at this stuff and I'm much more of a photoshop guy than a programmer. Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone, so here is something that I would like to implement someday. On the third screen, I've made a few mock up "fan-arts" that would show up. It ...would be a bear ...because it's basically making an image for ....sigh ...every game that exists ... but, ya know ..it's nice to have a project.

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate all the kind words! I'll hop back on here in the next day or so to get everything figured out, and uploaded. Thanks for everyone's support!
