Really amazing, and great PC parts choice I think ! That little 750 Ti can handle shaders and stuff without suffering.

Well I did have some performance issues in the beginning, especially with MAME. But now I have overclocked my motherboard/processor and also the 750TI (gpu/memory frequency) it is running pretty smooth. The only issue I have now is when using overlays and stuff in MAME, then I get huge lag in video and sound. But maybe that's an MAME issue, I'm not sure. When I only use bezels in MAME it all runs fine!

    Cheers

I actually registered to say that I love this build!  Did you come up with your own template or where did you get the measurements? I'd love to replicate something approximately the same size.  Would love to see details.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Finally uploaded some more images and the 3D schematics (made with SketchUp 2017). But beware although this is very close to the end result I did make changes along the way that I never updates in the 3D SketchUp. So if used, do not do so blindly, but double check everything!

    Cheers!

ok thanks will try plugins and also just having the platforms view

Are you not allowed to rename the theme folders?

Because all versions have the same theme folder name (CityHunter 2) I renamed (cityhunter 2 plugin, cityhunter 2 standard, and so on...) those folders to be able to switch between different version of this theme but I'm getting errors. Looks like \CityHunters 2\ folder is hardcoded into the theme.

My guess is that the default engine does not support categories play back because it's looking for a specific path, not entirely sure. @CriticalCid might be able to chime in. I don't use the feature so it has never been an issue for me. The plugin version should get you around this.

These are the clean edits, maybe see if the plugin version works better for you.

just used lb8 default criticalzone theme and have the same issue

also used your beta version which worked

    will try plugins now

Can you test that against CriticalZone and see if it does the same thing? I don't use categories.

    against which one?

    CriticalZoneV2.zip

    CriticalZoneV2_BackgroundVideoOnly.zip
    CriticalZoneV2_-_BlueBox.zip
    CriticalZoneV2_-_BlueBox_BackgroundFanartOnly.zip

  7. I'm having a little issue with this theme, but I can't figure out why it is acting like it does. Anybody has any ideas?

When booting up you get into BigBox on Platform Categories at this point it's just a black background no video playing. When entering a Category still no video, just black background. But when I enter the platform displaying the games the background video plays and then when I back out to platform and categories, it's all good and I have the background video like it is suppose to be.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

I did a ton of research and looked at many many many other projects, I took the measurement of the ones I liked most and tweaked them to fit my needs. I wanted my cab to be as slim as possible. But in hindsight I would have changed a couple of things for sure. For one, I would have made my control panel a little wider in depth.

Also had some challenges as I wanted no visible shrews and the ability to lake it apart. So I used magnets to hold my back panels and also for the L-profiles that hold the marquee plexiglas in place. My cab is located in the attic where my man-cave is :)! Would I have glued and nailed everything, I would never be able to get it out of the attic without damaging it, in case we move to a new house in the future! These cabs are heavy!

I made a 3D SketchUp drawing of my cab before I started. In the next couple of days I will look for those documents and I may have some more photos somewhere. I'll try and post them here later this week. I did make some little changes along the way though, which unfortunately I did not update in my sketch, but it's a very good basis.

What's the specs on your computer for the arcade. Interested in building a unit similar but wall mount.

    Thanks, looks awesome btw.

    Thanks!

    The hardware I use is:

    • Motherboard: ASUS H81M-K (Running H81M-C's Bios so I'm able to OC)
    • Processor: Intel Pentium G3258 3.20 GHz (DualCore) (OC to 4.3 GHz)
    • Memory: 16GB (2x8GB) HyperX Fury Blue DDR3-1866
    • Video: Palit GeForce GTX 750Ti StormX OC (PCI-e, 2GB GDDR5, mHDMI, Dual-Link DVI-D, CRT, 2x GPU) (OC to GPU +135 MHz / Memory +335 MHz)
    • Harddisk 1: 120GB Kingston SSD Now V300 SATA 6Gb/s (Bootdisk OS Win10Pro)
    • Harddisk 1: 256GB Samsung SSD 850 PRO SATA 6Gb/s (Win10Pro/BigBox/Emulators)
    • Harddisk 2 : 2000GB Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DN001 64MB 3.5" SATA 6Gb/s (BigBox/Emulators/Roms)
    • Monitor: Iiyama ProLite XB2783HSU-B1
    • Speakers: Logitech Z333 2.1 Speaker System

I would not go for this setup again though, I should've researched a bit better. With this motherboard-cpu combo it is not possible to Overclock, that said, it's not entirely true, after many days searching I found one hack that allowed me to overclock the CPU but it's NOT recommended (it could have easily killed my motherboard, luckily it didn't). I flashed my H81M-K motherboard with a H81M-C bios which then finally allowed me to adjust the cpu settings, but I am still not able to overclock my memory (XMP profile).

The videocard was easy to overclock with Palit's Thundermaster software, just a little boost though, not to much.

Everything runs smooth enough to a point I'm satisfied... but it could be better!

More than likely because with the default engine it has to complete it's play cycle before shifting to another with the platform videos. There will be a clean version, I use that one myself as well. These are just two test version to make sure everything is working as should. If you look at my d/l sections I still havent pulled the older themes yet.

Thanks man! Looking forward to the clean version after beta phase is over. Still have the old clean version installed. But will be using the Beta for now, so when something is up I can let you know about it!

    Cheers

  12. Hi,

Great theme! This Beta feels snappier then the previous one, so love that. I did use the clean version so hopefully you'll be bringing out a clean version again.

Only issue I'm seem to be having is after the first startup (launch straight into bigbox on the cab) the platform vid doesn't change, so for example when going from handhelds to arcade it keeps playing the handhelds vid and I have to go back and forth and when it's loaded once it's all good. When going into these platforms theirs no problem.

I don't seem to have this with the previous clean version.

Keep up the great work! Love this theme! Thanks

Update: Vid eventually does change but there is just a huge delay I found out.

  13. Hi Guys,

I have my MAME 0191 set imported under arcade and last night decided to have LB create the missing arcade playlists. As Launchbox created and populated these playlists it all looked fine. But when launching BB, the lists are there, but some are empty while LB shows them populated.

For example: LB created playlist Cave and populated it with x number of games. BB on the other hand shows the Cave list, it even gives me a games count. But when I access the list it says 'No games available' while other lists show me just 1 game.

Any idea on what this could be?

For someone that's not ever built anything you did really well, looks great

    Thanks!

If anything, I'm precise and a perfectionist (what does tends to cost me more money :| )

My 2 biggest challenges were: No visible screws and be able to take apart the cabinet if needed. I have my man-cave in the attic and would otherwise never be able to get the cab down from there without damaging it, as we're probably going to be moving in a couple of years.

Hmm just tried this and while it works I didn't set it up to auto login so had to log on I know I read there is a native solution but I always use auto logon which is a tool in the Microsoft Systems Internal Suites you run that set the password and everything should go fine another snafu I did notice was that when you exited BB it didn't launch explorer I had to use shift+ctrl+Esc to open Task Manager and run explorer.exe I'm guessing this shouldn't be an issue as if your leaving BB you must be planning to need a keyboard  to make any changes to your system.

Yeah I have windows set to logon automatically using the native windows settings. You're right it is purely for maintenance and updating at which point I will be using keyboard/mouse.

Getting the shell back after exiting BB would be nice but starting explorer manually is perfectly fine, it's not something I would be doing that often...

"The simpliest way to do it: In windows search type "edit group policy" Now we search for "custom user interface" it is under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System. Now you have chose enable and under options to write the path for the program we want to start up instead of explorer, for example c:/launch box/bigbox.exe. Perfect way for an arcade cabinet. To reopen explorer again exit bigbox and press alt+ctr+del and open task manager, new task and write explorer.exe. Back to normal windows."

This quote is from the comment on the videos. Never tried it but sounds like a perfect solution.

This vid doesn't work for me as windows is still visible but I will tryout the group policy setting tonight! Thanks!

I don't know about Windows 10, but with 7 you can automatically login to an account at startup, and that account can start BigBox when logged into. So, I just turn on the computer and BigBox starts up. It's very easy to setup and no messing with the registry. I imagine you can do something similar in Windows 10.

I had BigBox in my startup folder before, but that way I wasn't able to fully hide any trace of windows. Now running it as shell and also using InstantSheller program it's all black until the BigBox startup vid.

Yeah the actual advice is to never run Launchbox/Bigbox as administrator. As it causes issues just like this. There is also no need to in the first place, it just causes issues.

Read somewhere that running as admin would prevent running into issues sometimes. But I must have read it wrong or it was just bad advise. All seems to be running fine and you're right I don't need to run in as admin.

    Thanks!

  19. Hi,

Was wondering if any of you have had this issue before?

I'm on the latest windows 10 version and I have managed to hide windows and boot into BigBox! But here is the problem, if I change bigbox.exe properties to run as administrator it will NOT start as windows shell, I just get a black screen cause no shell is loaded. When I remove the run as admin checkbox it works fine! Its not a big issue as it is working this way, but was wondering if any of you have any idea what this is about?

Also when exiting BigBox was able to run a batch file that start explorer and this restored the taskbar but this also doesn't work anymore, now I just get an file explorer window. I have to change the registry back to explorer.exe and log off/on again to get back. Any of you have better solutions which can make it less of a hassle?

    Thanks, Kevin

My whole collection right now easily fits on a single 2 TB drive with lots of room to add more as needed. But I also do not have full collections for CD based systems. I have full cart system collections but all the CD stuff I only got what I consider the best of and what I would actually play.

Thanks, that is some solid advise... for the CD based systems I think I'am going to do the same. Just import what I know and maybe search online for 'best of...'-type list and import those as well!
