Hmmm sorry you had an issue with the input mapper I have not tried it yet. Just was seeing if it "just worked" with RA but I cannot get it to do so. I will give the input mapper a shot and if not I will certainly try out what you've supported! I do have a bluetooth dongle in my PC right now , which seemed to pair just fine with my controller but RA just will not recognize it. So by downloading input mapper and then pairing that with my PS4 controller it may help out with working in RetroArch? Also, today again whenever I seem to add or attempt to add a second controller to the inputs my #1 input bind (8bitdo SNES bluetooth controller) stops working. This is the only frustrating thing so far is these dang controllers!

Dang, PS4 controller over wireless/bluetooth still doesn't want to play nice. I am on the stable build 1.3.6... I selected "wireless controller one" like Monkus has mentioned and it is on and paired to my PC... but nothing happens. I tried to manually set the binds through RA, no buttons still work after that. Should I get the input mapper? What is that going to do essentially in this case?

Awesome thanks; I'm going to try this later tonight once I am home. I'll report back if it works!

Hey thanks a lot for the detailed response CTRL-ALT-DEFEAT. Much appreciate it! That all does make sense and I totally understand. With that being said, do you know is it possible to somehow convert or change my files into something that the RA Mednafen uses so I can continue my saves? Or is this impossible to do and I am out of luck and will have to start fresh...?

I did try the .mcr file and then when I went into LaunchBox and opened up Spyro under the continue game or whatnot my save did not show up. So IF it is possible I only need the .mcr file then I must of not placed it in the right location..
-
I noticed that as well within Mednafen PSX within RA on my PC. My Mac on OpenEmu its just called Mednafen... not sure if theres a difference there. But it looks like for whatever reason I only have the .mcr files on here and not the .srm files... hmm weird. However it does look like it creates two .mcr files for each game which is odd.

So I have a general "noob" thread where I have been asking all my questions with wonderful support from Brad and Monkus but figured this was a little more specific. So I hope this is the right spot to ask this... I did several google searches and searched here specifically and I cannot find a direct answer so wondering if anyone else has done something like this... I have recently got into setting up Launchbox and setting everything up to my liking, then I will be purchasing big box. I am currently working on setting up PS1 in LaunchBox/RetroArch and using the core Mednafen PSX. My question is...I am doing this all on my PC however on my MacBook Pro I have OpenEMU... the core they use for PS1 Emulation is "Mednafen" I am not sure if its exactly the same or different? I have previously in the past done a little retro gaming with OpenEmu and this "Mednafen" core. I wanted to transfer my saved games from the original Spyro the Dragon PS1 game as well as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. However after I attempted this it did not work. On OpenEmu when I navigate to where the saved games are they are located within the Mednafen folder, then under "battery saves" as shown in the attachment. It looks like these saves are in the .mcr format. Would they be the same on my windows PC version of Mednafen PSX? I did locate the saved games location and dropped them in there... but they did not work, I also tried renaming the save file to the title of the game also which did not work. Has anyone successfully done this, and if so do you mind explaining how/what I am doing wrong?

Awesome, thanks monkus - Appreciate your fast responses and great support!

Sorry to bump this thread... but for these PS1 games... I have about 15-20 games... they all have the .bin and the .cue, which I will be using RetroArch and Mednafen PSX through RA. Right now before actually setting up the emulator and games in LB and RA can I leave these in folders to keep them organized or do I need to just have a giant "games" folder with all the files? Like mentioned above having each file in a folder makes organization easier so just was curious before I start putting in the time to organize everything into folders...

D'oh. I really need to look over those more before posting some of my questions, so my apologies. Being away from my computer I am just thinking of everything I still need to do and posting all my questions and thoughts from my phone I appreciate you taking the time to respond though so thank you! That is certainly good advice! I will totally make sure to back everything up prior whenever that time comes!

Also, I hope you guys don't mind - I am just kind of using this thread as my ask everything type thread please let me know if I am asking to much or should be looking around the forums more for answers. But two things that I have been thinking about as I am away from my computer... if Launch Box and/or RetroArch update... more specifically RetroArch say to the 1.4.0 you mentioned is coming... does it notify me there is an update? Does it update automatically? If I do update does it ever cause any configs or settings to go astray or cause issues? Same can be said for Launchbox but as a front end I don't see that having as many potential issues.

Thanks Munkus and Brad. I'm away from my pc until Monday night but I'll fiddle around then to see... before I restarted the nightly build seemed to recognize the PS4 controller wirelessly and auto bind it just find. Now being on the latest stable release it doesn't seem to. I seem to be having issues setting up multiple controllers to each different bind. When I set my SNES pad to bind one and then try adding a second to bind 2 the AB XY seem to stop working on the bind one. So not sure what's exactly going on there... I can try getting input mapper too if that'll help streamline the process making it easier. Like I said I feel everything seems to be going smooth sailing so far adding emulators, Roms, custom configs and settings outside the dang controllers. After i I get all my controllers working and all the emulators and roms added I plan to purchase Big Box and start configuring all of that!

Yeah I am having the biggest issues with setting up controllers. That seems to be the hardest thing for me. I also don't like that I can't go into my bluetooth settings and rename all these peripherals. I for example have a blue tooth keyboard, two bluetooth SNES 8bitdo pads, the N64 Retrolink USB controller (which I am about to purchase this!), a bluetooth/wireless PS4 controller. Most of these having generic names and makes sorting a little confusing. I found your video for setting up PS1 which I am in the process of almost completing but the issue I am having now is with RA again and recognizing my PS4 controller. Do I need to do anything special? I bluetooth paired it to my PC and the controller is on. I believe RA calls it "wireless controller 1" and nothing auto configs or button maps... do we have to manually set up PS4 controllers?

Awesome, that is easy enough. I can do that and leave the max players alone. Now that I am understanding some its not as intimidating as it looks, especially following your awesome guides! As far as the TV... yeah looks like that for me caused an issue being 4K and having the V-Sync option on. Once that was off I had no issues. If I opened the emulator outside of RetroArch it was fine, just opening from RetroArch and not toggling V-Sync off caused the issues. I decided to play it safe and go to the 1.3.6 build for now! After watching your videos doing the per core custom configs doesn't seem to bad/hard. I personally like this so if I want to set different aspect ratio settings, configure certain controllers, or apply certain shaders or other things to specific cores I can do so!!!! Few more questions as I am rolling along here: 1. I just finished up on the N64 tutorial you made, everything works great - expect the controller configuration for the Retrolink N64 controller in Mupen64/RetroArch... your video is from last March do you have any updates on how to easily configure this USB controller in RA with Mupen? I'd much rather use Mupen and my Retrolink controller! 2. Have you made tutorials for PS1 and PS2? I don't see that on the link you shared with me, I am sure I can google it but your tutorials have been amazing this far!

Question with the controllers... say when I have the SNES config opened in RA for BSNES... If i want only my two 8bitdo SNES pads to work would I change the Max Users to two, making sure both of these pads are set for bind 1 and 2?
-
Looks like I was, I figured out how to do that now and get them to work! I may use different oneness for the different systems... where I can make certain controllers will only work with certain configs/emulators now that I seem to have a grasp on that! The learning curve for the basics of this aren't so bad

I re-downloaded and went with the stable... so I found under settings and then configuration "configuration per-core"... is this something you suggest I turn on and use or leave off and do a "one shoe fits all"? And YES silly me... I figured out my issue. So when you go to manage emulators and associated platforms I folllowed Brad's guide on how to enter command line parameters...will silly me typed the path in wrong I did not put a space after the -c before the quotes so it would keep loading the default cfg file. We have progress! With that said I THINK I got the foundation of this going with SNES... just need to figure out the cfg per core or not...
-
Yes I think that was part of my issue. Launching anything out of RetroArch directly works great... looks and sounds awesome! Its from within Launchbox where my issues seem to keep happening. I think somehow the saved config may not be loading when opening up a gam from LB. I deleted RA and am going to re-do it. Now that I kind of know what I am doing. As far as the build I think I got the nightly... should I just go with the stable build to be safe? Also to make sure I understand these configs since I am restarting... Can I modify the default config (so change settings I want to use across the board such as full screen, no v-sync obviously, my controllers, etc.and save it) and then when a core is loaded I mod the config and save it off as its own? Is that how these work? I will need to watch the part in the SNES video again though that shows how to make sure the config file is loaded when you start a game.
-
I do make sure I hit save configuration, Brad stressed that in the SNES video so I make sure I do after every change I was going to use a stable build but I went with nightly since you both said you use those... and as far as my TV, yes its a 4K. Its this tv to be specific: http://ca.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ks8000

Looks like that may have fixed it... I turned that off and everything seems great!!! However... (see below) However, I did not start fresh yet and replace the cfg. I tested a few more things... Looks like if I load the Sega or SNES core right out of RetroArch perfect audio and video no issues. When I double click a rom out of Launchbox it a.) doesn't launch in full screen like I set the config too, and b.) has the stuttering video and audio... any idea what I may be doing wrong here?
-
Thanks guys for the replies. I started following lordmonkus's RetroArch guide and on the Sega and I noticed the sound does the same thing. My PC is now done importing all the games and I have no other tasks running... so that narrows done the issue to something in RetroArch I believe. I tried standalone Sega emulators outside of RetroArch and they work fine. So not sure if I should delete RetroArch completely and restart or what. But I think that is what is causing my issue here...

I have an Intel Core i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz... not sure if it matters/means much but yesterday when I installed the Snes9x and tested Super Mario no issues with sound or slowness of the actual rom file... just noticed it in the Retroarch & BSnes. As far as the guide, do you have a link? I would love to check it out
-
Only issue I seem to having up to completion of the SNES tutorial is sound. I decided to try out Super Mario World and the sound is funky, and the game itself runs slow. Best way for me to describe it is as if the game is running in slow motion and the sound is too. Not sure if I somehow set something wrong with speed and slowed it down from 1x? (I am importing almost 700 SNES games though while attempting to test SMW so that may be it?)

Thank you!! Somehow I decided to try again and I was able to get everything set up shown in the SNES Video Its now easier to navigate the RetroArch menu with the working SNES pad I have too! Now I need to start doing the other systems before tackling on more advanced steps and features!
