I just did some performance testing with the MAME full-set importer, without downloading any media. Results:

Full set import with metadata, default filters: 2 minutes
Full set import without metadata, default filters: < 1 minute
Full set import with metadata, no filters: 22 minutes
Full set import without metadata, no filters: 2 minutes

It looks like the longer times are just coming from the filters (along with populating the metadata). If you don't filter anything out, you end up with 41,763 games/apps vs. only 6,627 games/apps, so that's a huge difference. Obviously I'm getting much faster times than 2 hours, but that may just be due to the fact that I'm running an i9 9900K. It also could be affected by the size of the existing collection.

I did a new test with clean LaunchBox setup (No platforms added) and it took me 2 minutes to import Full MAME set with just metadata and default filters (No media/videos).

The same exact import with 150 platforms already set up on LaunchBox took me about 2 hours.

All this tests have been done in an old 3770k processor and standard HD (not SSD). So the conclusions i get with all this tests, are: More platforms imported, more time to import roms. Processor and HD doesn't seem to be too significant for the import speed.

    I think you nailed it.

That fast speed was due to me using a brandnew install of LaunchBox on the SSD because I didn't have enough space for my original LaunchBox folder.

For a test I then made some room moved original LaunchBox software folder to SSD, this setup has 60k games (the games stayed on 10TB) and the import took around 2 hours. So the more platform/games I have in the collection the longer it will take to import even without metadata. I don't have anymore systems to import so MAME is the only constant that is always updated, so I deleted an already imported 'small' platform and it too also took some time... how come the size of the collection affects the import speed? Can anything be done about this as its just reading the location of the file?

@ci2own how many platforms/games do you have imported?

    I have about 150 platforms and 55315 games/roms imported.

This is a Default Arcade 2D Boxes or Flyers Pack for games without Image.

I would like to credit the one who did the Aracade Cab Pictures. Actually i don't know who did them and hope he/she doesn't mind i used them for this set.

If someone knows who did i will add here for credits.

I like what you have done. Just a suggestion, but underneith the system picture how about adding the wording "Box Art not available"

    Thanks!

I understand what you mean, but i personally prefer to keep it as simple as possible.

Is easy to identify this kind of  "flat" covers means "Box Art not available", but anyone can modify and add it very easy.

This is the aspect it has if using this covers:

LB allows you to use a default image for a few image options like Box, 3D box, Cart and 3D Cart. Just right click on the platform name. Then in the right part of the window with the game images click to add a new image and then choose the default option you want. Then add the image.

I didn't know this feature, but you saved me a lot of work!

    Thank you very much! :)

  6. Hi! i would like to know if is there an easy way to use a default 2D Box/flyer image for all games without image. I know i could create multiples copies of this image with the name of each game, but this would be a waste of time and disk space.

The best would be to use an image named something like _Default.png and that's it!

    An example:

@ci2own Quick question for clarification. In your first post you talk about platforms then in your second you are mentioning playlists. Are these two separate issues? Are you missing platforms or playlists? They are not the same so just want to clarify.

I've found the answer right now:  A few days ago i check View option > Hide games without 2D box but i though it was just for that platform.

And today i tried to import games for a Platform which is not known for LB so i didn't import media to add it later manually, and this is why this platform dissapeared.

I don't know if LB should have this option to hide individually by system....

Anyway, thanks for your interest on helping :)

  8. I have doing some tests, and the playlists doesn't appear in LaunchBox/Data/Playlists/

I copy it from a backup to that folder, and everytime LaunchBox starts, it deletes those files.

Does someone knows why LaunchBox delete playlists and how to solve? Thanks in advance!
