  1. My arcade pedestal has a rotating monitor, so I wanted to gather up a definitive list of the Arcade Vertical Shooters to play. This is what I came up with. I think I've covered everything that is currently playable, but of course with this hobby nothing is ever "finished." I found a bunch of shooters that I never even knew existed, so I figured I'd share the list in case it helps anyone. All games on this list are playable.

A couple notes on the list...

    * Games must be currently in a "playable" state via one of the emulators (listed below).

    * I did not include the gallery shooters (Galaga, etc). There are so many of those that I went ahead and peeled them out to their own list.

    * I did include the diagonal shooters (Zaxxon, etc) on this list. There are only a few of them, and they have to go somewhere. If I find enough of them in my hunt then I might peel them out to their own list since they have a slightly different play style.

    * I also included a few of the multi-directional shooters, but only if they still have a primary focus on vertical action, since they play like a vertical shooter.

    * There are a few games that could probably be considered 3rd-person shooters, but again if they have a similar play style to vertical shooters then I've included them.

Emulators used: Arcade Classics = MAME (0.256)

    Sega Model 2 = Model 2 Emulator

    Sega Naomi = Flycast

    TeknoParrot = TeknoParrot (well...yeah...)

I'm using the fabulous Neon Deluxe Arcade theme. These are the Arcade Vertical Shooters only, I might try to add some console-exclusive titles later...still debating that.

I ended up with a little over 300 games in the list. Hope it helps people find shooters they maybe weren't aware of.

Let me know what you think, and if I've missed anything!!

is there a guide to setting up quake mods in launch box?

Yea you can do bat files like monk said or just put the map/mod parameters in the game launch parameters (which is what I do). Either way is fine. Let me know if you need examples.

Don't believe any Big Box code was touched in 13.4/5 release so I'm not entirely sure what would cause any change to what you're seeing. Does reverting to 13.3 correct? Also could you take a pic of your Platform Category tree in LaunchBox so I can see a bit better what you mean?

I think we're good boss. It seems to have cleared up. I had moved a lot of playlists around and BB was acting sluggish so I'm thinking maybe it was doing some heavy caching or something in the background.

The only other thing I can think of was a few of the Playlists in the new Collections category were missing clearlogo images. This was causing the entire Collections wheel to be blank and the games wheel inside the Playlists to be blank as well. I put placeholder clearlogos in the folders until I can make some and don't have the issue anymore. It was either that or the "caching" thing dunno.  Not sure if that would be considered a bug but FYI.

  4. Posted on discord too but realized it might be a bit much for there...

not sure if this is a bug in 13.5 or an issue with my theme but it just started happening. i boot BB into categories view. I have only 1 category (collections) visible (the rest are hidden from BB) and a bunch of playlists at the root and also other playlists parented under collections category. everything is fine except when I select collections it shows nothing on the wheel, no artwork, etc...like it's invisible. I def have games in each playlist and none of the collections playlists are hidden in BB.

i've done an image refresh and force repop also, re-launched lb/bb, etc.

  5. Just uploaded my clearlogo pack for Nintendo Wii U. It should be "complete" with all the disc & eshop titles, at least the USA stuff. I included the EU exclusives & a few JAP exclusives as well. I did not include demos, non-game titles, etc. If you find anything missing, let me know and I'll see if I can source it and update the pack. I put this together because the games database is missing a ton of them. Note that CEMU currently only has about 50% compatibility for all these but is getting better every day.

Starting Line - Driving Cabinet Theme (WIP)

    View File

After a bunch of requests from users on Reddit and BYOAC, I've decided to upload my (VERY WIP) driving cabinet theme: Starting Line

There's only one view - an in-cockpit view of a car.  Moving the wheel right and left selects the active game.

As I'm EXTREMELY busy with work commitments, I don't foresee a lot of requests / uploads, this theme is AS-IS.  I'm currently running 1080p.

If anyone would like to help me with this / work collaboratively I'd be happy to work with people to make this more advanced / get it over the finish line (no pun intended).

Hey that's cool. I just did something similar for my racing cab..a theme called VROOM. Mine isn't that fancy though. Did you continue with this, or is available for CTC? I don't know how to build a theme from scratch so I used CTC.

Unsure if you are using the CTC or raw XAML but essentially all you'd need to do is replace the FlowImage control with a FlowModel one. You can take a look at the Default theme's coverflow views to get an idea as to how to do that

C-Beats can you expound on that or point me to a resource that discusses it? I've looked at the CoverFlowGamesView.xaml for Default theme and I don't find any ref to either FlowImage or FlowModel.

I guess the bigger question first is...is the 3D box model available only as a wheel element only or can it be used anywhere in a theme? My end goal would be to replace an image in my theme that is currently 3D Box/Box with a 3D Model...not sure if that's even possible or supported. It doesn't appear CTC allows it from what I can gather.

    Thx for any guidance.

  8. I really just wanted to learn how to make a theme and wanted something simple for my racing cab with a racing/Ferrari type look.  None of the existing themes had exactly what I wanted to I decided to use CTC (2.5.5) and whip one up. Thanks to y2guru for the tool and a little help along the way.

The main level is playlists which are sub-genres of the racing genre. I just came up with a list that made sense to me.

For the games list I wanted to have an image that shows what hardware is used for that game. I do intend to make actual images for each game that shows what all the inputs are for that game, but I think I'll do that via launch images.

The wheel/pedals controls animation is just a 3 renders I did and then I set the image to folder content so it just is basically a slideshow.

Lot's of fun, and CTC makes even us primates be able to throw something together.

PS: not sure why the video capture is so crappy and dark, the theme actually is better. Also, I made all the playlist clearlogos myself, but not that startup video. I got that on the forums here sometime back, apologies for not crediting, not sure who made it.

  9. Ok, I got it fixed...but still not sure what the root cause was.

I installed CTC on my racing rig, copied the VROOM theme into the projects folder and published the theme directly to BB on the racing cab. Now the VROOM theme shows up and displays correctly when chosen as the theme.

Maybe something with the way CTC "communicates" it's info to BB...idk...I'm not going to look at it too hard for fear it might break again lol.

    Thanks for the help!

Hmm, did you code any hard paths to things in the theme that may not be available due to different path structures on the two different PC's?

Well, not directly. There are some refs to things for the background but they are contained in a subfolder in the theme folder that I copied over.

For instance, I have an image called "Flag" that sits in the theme folder at VROOM/Media/Background and is used as an image in the background layer but the asset is there on the racing rig.

I have maybe 5 things that are ref'd like that but that couldn't be the issue right? Otherwise the theme would only be usable on the PC that it was dev'd on.

Are you sure your theme isnt just broken? When a theme, or a view in the theme is broken the default is shown instead, so it sounds to me like your theme simply doesnt work so are getting the default theme as a fallback.

Well, that's the thing. The theme displays/works fine on my workstation in BB. So I delete the theme from my racing rig and copy over a fresh copy of the theme folder from the workstation and...it displays Default theme if I select it. Both the workstation and racing rig are on BB 13.1.

What's the name of your theme? Also are you in the correct view?

My theme is called VROOM. But I even tried deleting it, renaming the theme folder to ABC, copying it back in...BB sees ABC theme but when I apply it I get Default theme displayed. I tried all the views available and they are all the Default theme views.

Also, just for grins I just tried to install (download) another theme that I didn't already have..I picked Pulse and Aeon Nox and both downloaded/installed fine and I can switch to them with no problems.

Somehow BB has gotten hung up so that a theme that I just copy into the Themes folder, no matter what it is named...gets the Default theme displayed.

I also went back to my workstation and pulled up VROOM in BB and it pulls up/works fine. So, I copied it from the workstation to the racing rig and still the same...Default view shows when VROOM is selected...at a loss..

Are you seeing any errors? I've never heard of anyone having this issue, and given how the code works the situation doesn't make a ton of sense to me. Can you check in your \\LaunchBox\Core folder and ensure there is no lingering Themes folder in there and remove it if there is?

Yeah I've been with LB for several yrs now and never have seen anything like this.

    So, I..

    deleted everything in LB/Themes

checked LB/Core...no reference to any themes

    reboot the racing rig pc

copied my (known working) theme into LB/Themes

started BB, it was by default on the Default theme

Manage Themes - selected my theme & apply to all

...and Default theme is still what's displayed...

Just for test, I switched to Old Default & CZ themes and they switch over fine

It's has to be something corrupted in the xml files, right?

Can always just delete the Themes folder and then run the installer over the directory again, then place the theme files in the Theme folder that gets put there by the installer

Ughh...didn't work. So I deleted everything from the Themes folder and re-installed 13.1 over the top...same. I restored a LB backup from before I installed my theme...same. I even uninstalled my theme, changed the folder name of the theme to something completely unrelated and then reinstalled it in BB...same. BB is determined that any theme I copy in, no matter what I name it is the Default theme now...
