latin625
hi, anyone have a guide I could follow for nes and Snes for RETROArch? Do I have to have the files unzipped or can launchbox unzip them as needed? Thanks! Edited September 4, 2016 by latin625
Lordmonkus
Launchbox can unzip them. In the "Edit Emulator" window turn on "Extract Rom archive before running".
latin625
Thanks, do I need to do anything other than just point at the exe. I double click on a game and nothing happens. I get a spinning circle then nothing.
Lordmonkus
Have you watched Brads tutorial videos on how to setup Launchbox to use Retroarch ?
latin625
I was watching this video here: I can do everthing he says, but I lose him when he says double click and lauch the game. Mine does not launch.
Lordmonkus
Do your zip files contain only one file inside or multiple ? If it has multiple then it gets confused as to which file to load.
latin625
One file. I have attached a screengrab. I have the box ticked that says "extract rom"

latin625
I am not sure. I have this: How change I can the core? Copy and paste? How do I download the snes9x core?
Lordmonkus
Ok the one you are pointing at is for the NES not the SNES. Use the online updater to download the Snes9x core, or the Bsnes_Balanced core. I recommend the BSnes core if you have a decent CPU (approx 3 GHz) if your CPU is lower then use the Snes9x core. Then if you go into the /cores folder in your Retroarch install folder look for the core you have downloaded you will find the exact name of the file to replace in your Edit Emulator window. latin625
OMG!!!! OMG!!!!! WOOHOO! You did it again!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I now understand how to update the cores. The old Retroarch used to show a donwloading bar. Can you point me to how I can set up the controls? Iwill look at a video first to see if I can sort it out. But THANKS!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! YEAH!!!!!! Lordmonkus
Hehe glad you got it working As far as controls go they should just work out of the box. They always have for me with an Xbox 360 controller. If not go to the "cogwheel" menu then down to "input", then "input user 1 binds", then "user 1 bind all". It should then run you through the rebinding process where you press each button for what you want. Keep in mind it is using a Snes controller layout as a base so a and b are reverse like on a Snes controller.
latin625
ok! I am gonna watch the video tutorial first. I have no xbox controller, I have a tankstick from recroommasters. Xtension arcade emulator edition. Something called a minipac or somthing like that. I also have vjoy. does that matter? THANKS!!!!
Lordmonkus
That I have no idea, you may have to check over on the Retroarch forums for information on that.
latin625
ok. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RetroArcade
Your xarcade has buttons assigned to keyboard buttons. You still follow the same method he stated but just press which button on your cp you would want to correspond to what the button would be on the snes controller. It will then assign the inputs to those keyboard keys instead of Joypad keys
latin625
Thanks! What I noticed after doing the binding is that the z and x work but the direction keys no longer move around the menus. Is that normal?
RetroArcade
When you bind the new keys that also changes menu navigation to use those keys you just set. So whatever keys your joystick is set for would now be what moves around. Might be number pad 2,4,6,8 depending on which xarcade layout you are using. There is a remap feature in retroarch but that is getting into a deeper subject
latin625
yes! that is what is happening. SHould I use something like vjoy? I have mapped it, but the game controls for moving donot work.
