NoobGamer75
I just found some HLSL settings and pasted them into my mame ini file, what do you think? Edit: not even close to how your's looks can I have your settings lol Edited September 24, 2016 by NoobGamer75
Lordmonkus
Well like any shader, it's very much personal preference. To me yours looks a little dark and I don't like the "grid" look but that's just my personal tastes talking. It's all about what you like and what might look good on your monitor may not look so good on my monitor. Resolution and panel types change how CRT shaders look due to pixel density. My monitor is a 27" 2560 x 1440 resolution TN panel.
NoobGamer75
I just did a quick google search and those were the settings I found, but I don't like it at all, compared to your settings, your settings are awesome. I've just downloaded your settings, I use 1920 x 1080 LED, would I have to change any of the settings for my resolution?
Lordmonkus
They should look fine without having to do any tweaks but if you want to learn about tweaking them here is a great video to learn about it. This video is the one that made me make the switch from GLSL to HLSL and I used his settings as a base with some very minor tweaks in gamma and saturation for my monitor. Just keep in mind that while you can make changes in game those settings are lost when you exit. So what you have to do is make note of the settings you like and then manually edit your raster.ini file in your mame\ini\presets folder.
NoobGamer75
Awesome :), this video will help me understand it a lot more too. I need to spend some time doing this, it makes a massive difference. I've only just realized that I'm using MAMEUIFX_64_0.164 I need to upated
Lordmonkus
Yeah definitely update to at least version 172 or newer. Pre 172 HLSL was actually quite bad but with 172 they made some dramatic changes to HLSL and made it much much better.

NoobGamer75
I think it's amazing, it looks perfect to me on my screen, the blacks are black the colors are popping nicely too. Big thank you for this Lordmonkus for your help and time, it's much appreciated.
Lordmonkus
Now try it on a vertical oriented game and compare it to a CRT shader on the same vertical game in Retroarch.
NoobGamer75
I don't like the look it gives on whites in vertical games can it be changed in vertical without it effecting horizontal games?
Lordmonkus
HLSL should look good in vertical, that's one of the best reasons to use it. You don't need to have a separate setting for vertical and horizontal games like you would with Retroarchs CRT or Mames GLSL shaders. I don't know what if any settings to adjust for vertical because to me they look great.
NoobGamer75
Maybe it's because I need to get used it in the vertical way. Take a look at the attachment and let me know if it looks like yours in vertical.

Lordmonkus
Hmm it shouldn't look like that. I wonder if maybe resolution is messing with it. Or maybe one of the following settings: # # CORE RENDER OPTIONS # keepaspect 1 unevenstretch 1 unevenstretchx 0 intoverscan 0 intscalex 0 intscaley
