I've been meaning to ask this for a while now too. I love the shaders in RA but don't have them set up in MAME/MESS yet.

I recommend using the newer BGFX shaders over HLSL. They look better out of the box, HLSL requires some tweaking to get them looking good. Also BGFX reallyonly is worth using in Mame or Mess versions 177 or newer.
