MerlinArcade
Hi, I couldn't find the answers to my questions so I'll ask here... I intend to build my own arcade cabinet but only for Arcade Classics and by that I mean the very first arcade cabinets that had their monitor rotated on the side (slightly higher than wide or portrait mode) while if I remember correctly, those cabinets started to change in the late 80s and early 90s to have a monitor displayed like most TV and PC monitors today (slightly wider than high or landscape mode). As you can see games like Pac-Man and 1942 look better on those "portrait monitors" otherwise, if you leave the monitor in landscape mode, you end up with black bars on the side. Not good. So my 1st question is regarding the different categories like Arcade, Nintendo 64, Game Cube, Sega that you load when Big Box is launched. I would like to skip this step and make Big Box open right in the Arcade sections with the wheel displaying only Arcade games like Pac-Man, Galaga, 1942, etc... In other words, can we setup in the settings this option of launching Big Box directly into a main category like Arcade and see right away the game names in the wheel instead of having to click on Arcade to start seeing the game list? My 2nd question is regarding a set of joystick called X-Arcade TankStick from X-Gaming. I'm not sure if I should ask you this or X-Gaming but would it be possible to press a combination of buttons (say the 2 white buttons on top) and have it to close Big Box in order to see Windows 10 desktop? Finally, I know that I can buy a $20 license but say I want to upgrade to the $50, can I send you the extra $30 to my previous $20 and get the unlimited version or do I need to buy a new $50 license? Thanks Merlin Edited January 11, 2017 by MerlinArcade
Lordmonkus
Answer 1: In a recent build Jason implemented the ability to have LB start at the last platform and game but I am not sure if you can set exactly where it starts on load, this might be something @Jason Carrcan implement soon. Answer 2: I am fairly certain you can do this, though you may have to use something like Xpadder or AntiMicro. Answer 3: You can upgrade for 30$. MerlinArcade
Thanks for the quick reply. I just ordered the premium version now. One more question... I know that when we download and click install LB, we can set the directory where we want it to install. Now the question is if I create a new dir called C:\Arcade/Lanchbox will it install EVERY little files in THAT dir or will there be some installed somewhere in the Windows directories (ex: program files or system32)? The reason for this is to install everything (LB/BB, emulators, Roms, etc..) in that Arcade dir and then copy it on a USB stick. This way, if my PC crashes and I have to install back Windows, I will be able to just use the USB stick as a backup and all my games and setting will be there without the need to reset everything again. Lordmonkus
You can install everything within the Launchbox folder if you like for easy backup and portability.
Jason Carr
Hi @MerlinArcade, I just responded to your PM. There is a new Big Box theme available on the forums for vertical monitors, though it is new so you'd be treading some new ground there. Also, LaunchBox is what's called "portable" so literally everything is kept inside the LaunchBox folder to make it easily move around (unless of course you use emulators and ROMs outside of the LaunchBox folder.
