McPhee Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I've got thousands of zipped ROMs on my system, all linked in to Launchbox. I now want to start using RetroArch as well. Is there any quick way to resolve the problem I've given myself? Or do I need to delete my entire catalog, unzip everything, and then start again?
McPhee Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 Ignore. Found an old Google result suggesting my issue was because RetroArch can't handle ZIPs. My issue was something else; core names were incorrect.
SentaiBrad Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Some RA cores wont handle zips though, it just depends. We do suggest to avoid zips, but also, there is an option when you edit an emulator to unzip games at runtime. This will help for emulators that don't natively support it at least. If that option is checked for an emulator and you don't use zips though, then it wont work. So it's usually best to create two instances of RetroArch if you must keep them zipped.
fromlostdays Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Didn't I hear that most retroarch cores are now supporting zips? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
SentaiBrad Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Just now, fromlostdays said: Didn't I hear that most retroarch cores are now supporting zips? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk If they are, that's new to me.
fromlostdays Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I think it was on simply Austin videos... but I don't want to spread heresay. I actually recommend decompressing everything, as like Brad said a while ago, space isn't the same issue it used to be and decompressed roms are a helluva lot easier to work with. But, before you go that route, check into RA supporting zips.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
