Hi,

I am building an arcade machine with launchbox using BigBox mode, a bought the launchbox license. I want to boot up the machine directly in BigBox mode.

I am using instantsheller and work perfect. The problem is that I am using JoyTokey for emulate the ESC key pressing two buttons at the same time. Joytokey work perfect with bigBox but when I boot all together with instant sheller joytokey not init.

How I can launch a program like JoyTokey when launchbox-bigBox is started?

Thank you in advance and best regards

If your system is actually logging in as some user to run bigbox on start (i'm not familiar with instantsheller), you can just drop a shortcut or batch file to your user startup folder. Or you can create a scheduled task, or you can use the HKCU or HKLM Run key in the registry to put the path and name of the program you want to run.

His system isn't booting into the Windows shell it is booting directly into BigBox I tried this on my arcade machine but I was using Bluetooth speakers and it didn't start the Bluetooth service so I had to change back myself. You could add J2k as rom in a platform and you could launch it from there or you can make a platform called utilities or applications and put programs that maybe useful in there I put the program I used to shell it in my platform so I could easily access the it and start Windows Explorer if need be. You may be able to right a .bat that will start BB and J2k and run that as the shell.

yeah i understand that. but just because you don't startup with the windows explorer shell doesn't mean a user isn't logged in. so, i think he can still try what i said. it's for sure doable to run other apps automatically on boot even if using an alternate windows shell. he doesn't need to manually run it from within bigbox if he doesn't want to go that extra manual step. if the alternate shell you guys are using doesn't allow that for some strange reason, there are many ways to boot right into bigbox that would not prevent doing something like this.

Edit: even instantsheller needs to be running under some user. if it wasn't, there would be a lot of limitations for bigbox.

i just looked up that tool on GameEx and indeed it's running under the user account. So, all the methods I mentioned to run other apps should work fine.

@bonistir , let me know if you have any troubles doing what i suggested to get what you want. i can help you if needed.

@ckp @DOS76 Thank you very much!

I put JoyToKey in a user startup folder and not work.

It will possible start Joytokey when init launchbox and not when init windows explorer? This is possible in Hyperspin.

Or there are any tutorial for launch bigbox directly on windows init with mapped keys?

Thank you and best regards

Try adding JoyToKey full path and executable to the user's run key in the registry. Open regedit.exe and navigate to :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

On the right side(pane) right click and add new string. Name it something like JoyToKey. Then double click that new name and fill in the full path like e:\myfiles\joytokey.exe

You need to make sure you are logged in as the same user that you specify to run instant sheller.

Here is a Microsoft reference to this:
