Dual Light Guns, MAME... please help

hey guys , Im new to launch box.   I love the system though.  I had everything working great.  Then I got the idea to add light guns to my arcade cab.  Im using the Aim Trac guns .   When i first plugged them in , i had no issues setting them up with windows and using the ultrimarc software.  Once I started MAME and Launchbox they wouldn't work. I messed with some setting and finally got one gun to work, but not the 2nd.    I did a lot of researching and found this post : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=150393.0   and they got it working using MAME 0171 .  So i did everything they said and successfully got both guns working in MAME 0171.   Now with Launchbox i was using MAME UI 64 , and i cant seem to use that with MAME 0171.   and I cant figure out how to get Launchbox to use MAME 0171 as an emulator .        Can anyone guide me and help me out ?

Edit your Mame emulator entry in LB and point it to your Mame 171 install.

I have the emulator entry in launch box pointed to the Mame .0171 .exe .  When I launch game in launch box I get a quick black screen like a command prompt screen that’s says error ..... something ..... can’t read it because it goes away really fast .   And that’s it , no game launches .

Ok, make sure that your mame.ini file is in the same folder as t he mame executable and not in the \ini sub folder of your mame install folder.

The Mame.ini file is in the same folder as the Mame .exe

Do your games work in Mame 171 on its own outside of LB ?

Yeah in Mame 0171 everything works.  Both guns work perfectly .     I got Mameui64 to work but it only registers gun 1 .    I can get launchbox to launch games using Mameui64.  But I can’t get launchbox to launch games using Mame 0171

As for the guns I cannot help you with at all, I don't have any lightguns let alone 2 of them.

When you imported your games did you use the Mame FullSet Import tool ? If you did try removing your games from LB and re-import by dragging all the games into LB and import the old way. You should be able to uncheck all the media stuff for the import so it should import fast.

I just tried selecting the 2 games I’m trying to get working .  I used the import rom option to bring them into launchbox

Try this, go to your Edit Emulator window for your Mame entry and in the Default Command Line Parameter box remove

-keyboardprovider dinput

Lordmonkus , that did the trick ! Thanks ! Launchbox now launched mame 0171 and both light guns are working !

Good to hear, that command line parameter was something that got added recently with the Pause Screens feature in LB but is incompatible with older versions of Mame. I totally forgot about it last night while trying to walk through fixes until @neil9000 mentioned it on Discord late last night.
