Cant get BigBox to show game disc selection option?

So i have a huge PS1 library in BigBox now. Im using Mednafen standalone which is a great emulator. Ive always been told the proper way to handle multi disc games (of which i have a lot) is to create an M3U playlist for those, which i did. Its just a text document with each line being the name of each discs "cue" file

it works great in the emulator itself. anytime i need to change discs, i just press the hotkey to open tray, hotkey to swap discs, etc

However there are some games that are multidisc that dont really rely on disc swapping while in game, due to progress, like you would normally see, lets say FF7, most RPG's, etc

im thinking of games like Resident Evil 2, Gran Turismo 2, etc where each disc is technically a different mode or option. GT2 has a disc for arcade and one for simulation

I thought about breaking the discs out as separate games like i did for FF Anthology And Chonicles since those are truly separate games, but that wont work here because then each is treated as a totally separate game with different saves

I had seem some screenshots of BigBox where on the game details screen you can choose which disc to load. This would be perfect! because on the games where you always start with Disc 1, i would do disc swapping as normal. but in games where each disc is a different mode or if i know exactly which disc im on, this would be a great shortcut to just start up Disc 2 in the beginning

ive poured through settings in bigbox and cant find anything to show or use this option

any ideas?

thanks!

Multi disk games are combined at import as long as you leave the box checked in the import wizard and your discs are named correctly (see image below). You can combine games after import by highlighting all the games in a platform with CTRL A and then using the tool in Tools/Consolidate Roms for name of system. This is of course reliant on you importing the actual games and not the M3U files, because you would only have one M3U for each game, not multiples.

Ok, i also noticed you have CHD files... im using Bin/CUE and M3U for multidisc

i imported all single disc games by selecting CUE file, all multidisc as M3U, since that was supposedly the way to go

So is it true that when you "consolidate" these games, it creates the 2nd and later discs as "addition apps"?

I really dont want to re-do this whole library, but apparently the emulator im using has a CMD line feature called "-which_medium" so you can specify what disc to start with

i wonder if i created a secondary app using that CMD line to the M3U file for each disc, maybe that would work? its mostly important for me to be able to ensure they are all on one standard save file since most games have benefits to sharing data between discs

what have you observed via save files in your case? IF i have to redo i suppose i could focus purely on the Multidisc games

thanks!

Ok so i got this to work with my Bin / Cue files by creating an additional app for the games that are multidisc. I then call each app "Disc 2", Disc 3, etc

The application path is just the same emulator i always use, mednafen

then in the additional argument box, i put in the -which_medium X (where x is disc number starting 0-3), then ROM name in quotes

This seems to work pretty well. I can select a game, then on game details page choose Additional Apps and a menu pops up and lists the "Disc 2" "Disc 3" etc.

I think the only thing that would be great would be a way to link those addition apps to the root level of game details menu? so they show right below "play" and i dont have to have the Addition Apps menu item, and go into and out of that menu. How customizable are the items / links on that game details page?

thanks!
